That was painful to watch.
ReplyDeleteHere are the answers to the questions asked about the 2500.
1) It is extremely easy and quick to set up a single VCO patch. It requires moving two slide switches. One at the top for CV into the V-OCt of the VCO and the other at the bottom to rout the wavefom of your choice -or a mix of WF's from the 1004T or P- to the output. If you want to add a filter and VCA, under envelope control you need to move four to six more switches. One to put the VCO out into a filtamp and a 2nd to take its VCA out to the amp. The 3rd and 4th switches feed the envelope outputs to the VCF and VCA CV inputs. The 5th and 6th switch rout the KBD Gate and trigger to the EGs. At thos point you have the classic two EG subtractive Synth patch complete and can make a huge range of sounds. Itl takes -literally- less than 30 seconds to patch this.
2) The crosstalk problem is bad on machines whose owners don't understand how to patch them and techs who don't know how to fix the problem. The power supply wiring needs to be changed and the problem largely disappears.
3) There is no reverb on a 2500 because the 1047 VCF resonator fulfills that need.
3a) aRP did plan to release a dual reverb labelled the 1025 but never did so, probably because withthe excelleent results of the 1047 -and the common use of the 2600's with 2500's meant there was no real need to do so.
4) The difference between the sounds of the 2500 and 2600 is well explained in a post -actualy many posts- by KSS on the Muffwiggler forum. Here's a link:

It would be great if the people who have these instruments could hook up with the people who know how to answer these simple basic questions. And how to fix their basic operation.
