"Albedo is a granular cloud reverb plugin for KORG prologue, minilogue xd and NTS-1. It continuously records audio into a buffer, and at the same time plays multiple looping snippets from it – with each such snippet or “grain” having its own randomized size and position. Together with feedback and additional stereo widening, this creates a lush “cloud of sound” reverb effect. The algorithm also features a “freeze” mode: it can stop overwriting the buffer and play the granular cloud indefinitely, making it possible to layer any other sounds on top of it. This plugin comes in two versions: 16 grains with forward playback (+) and 10 grains with reverse playback (-)."

People complain about milliseconds of lag in Bluetooth but nothing about playing live through a server hundreds of miles away? What is this hypocrisy?
ReplyDeleteBluetooth lag is caused by signal processing delays, resulting from poor software and hardware design. It is usually noticeable, particularly when a sound reaches the ears a clear fraction of a second after the key is pressed. 250 to 500 milliseconds of delay is indeed unacceptable. As for signal distance, a thousand kilometers results in a delay of three milliseconds which is undetectable to most people, since electric current travels at the speed of light, which is 300,000 kilometers per second. People complain about Bluetooth because it is a poor design. Raw signal distance rarely produces a discernible delay. Currently Bluetooth 5.2 has doubled the frequency and therefore the signal resolution but has halved the signal distance, now only about 15 feet or three meters usefulness. Bluetooth really sucks now and I dare anyone to say otherwise. it's only useful if you are listening to pop songs. For making music now, only wired equipment is acceptable.
DeleteAlbedo is a very nice filter. What 'lobue SDK really needs is a plugin development tool, possibly visual, that does not require knowledge of C programming. I doubt that most Prologue users and musicians are going to take the time to learn C. Now I have another new project to think about.
