Erica Synths mki x es.EDU Educational DIY Kit Line Created with Mortiz Klein

video upload by Moritz Klein

Full playlist further below.

"As some of you already know, I'll be releasing a series of DIY kits with the good people at Erica Synths. In this stream, we'll check out some of the prototypes, talk about the design process & the circuits themselves and – of course – hear what they sound like."

"Erica Synths and Moritz Klein – have developed a series of educational DIY kits under the brand name mki x es.EDU with one specific goal in mind: to teach people with little-to-no prior experience how to design analog synthesizer circuits from scratch. What you’ll find in the box is not simply meant to be soldered together and then disappear in your rack. Instead, we want to take you through the circuit design process step by step, explaining every choice we’ve made and how it impacts the finished module.

In total, we have developed 9 kits to build a fully-featured modular monosynth: a sequencer, a VCO, a wavefolder, a noise/S&H module, a mixer, a VCF, an Envelope generator, a dual VCA, and an output stereo mixer with a headphone amplifier. Additionally, an affordable eurorack case with a DIY PSU will also be available. While these kits are easy to build, we did not compromise on design and functionality. We will launch one kit every 4-6 weeks. Each kit comes with an extensive user manual (40+ pages) that will dive deep into not only the electronics behind each circuit but also the fundamental principles of sound synthesis.

We hope that the mki x es.EDU project will inspire future engineers and will contribute to the ever-growing diversity of electronic music technology."

ACL FCVS-4 Fader CV Source Module

via @Noisebug

"ACL FCVS-4 - The ACL Fader CV Source Module comprises 4 individual faders where each can generate a CV either going between 0 and +5V or 0 and +10V unipolar or -5V and +5V or -10V and +10V bipolar, selectable using 2 jumpers on the backside of the module.

Furthermore there are mute-switches for each channel. When mute is activated or deactivated, short fade ramps will be generated as well as the fader itself is slightly slew-limited internally in order to generate a smooth CV. This module is very useful to control VCA´s or VC mixers like our VC Amp mix module."

New Landscape NOON 8 Channel Powerless Instrument

via Landscape (demos on site) Overview✺

WHO❀ Noon

WHAT❈ An 8 channel powerless instrument which is activated and modulated using voltage from external sequencers.

HOW✷ Analog circuits are powered momentarily by incoming gate and control voltage signals causing them to oscillate and breath naturally. When these circuits are linked together they can grow, inform and process one another in complex rhythmic ways.

WHY❃ This technique increases the unstable properties of analog circuits, causing increased organic textures and movement. The simple controls are provided to ensure immediacy and access to rapidly alter sounds and movement without patching.

WHERE✾ The simplicity of the interface was designed with live performance in mind. The number of internal and external variables (control voltage types, linked channel behavior plus external audio input) create lots of room for studio exploration.

WHEN✻ We plan to have pre-orders open by end of January 2022

IN-DEPTH✹

NOON is a passive analog drum/synthesizer. Each of the eight channels uses a unique analog circuit with its own characteristics. No power supply is needed. Each circuit is triggered and powered individually from incoming gates or control voltages provided by voltage sequencers or modular systems. By using this unique method, we can increase instability and magnify organic aspects of traditional analog electronic instruments. The sound of analog, at its core, is the sound of sculpted electricity. By removing the stabilizing elements of a constant power source, we can listen to the sound of electronic circuits loading and unloading, powering up and powering down, and we can increase the natural chaotic movement of electricity. The loading of circuits creates natural ways to access swing and groove or ways to deconstruct a programmed rhythm sequence to make surprisingly new ideas.

Each channel is represented by a tuning fork. Incoming voltage can be thought of as a way to “strike” each fork with momentary voltage. Between every channel there are Link buttons which allow voltage sharing between channels. Linking them provides a wide mix of results depending on incoming voltage, active or inactive channels, slider settings, gate lengths and multichannel linking. The results can be described as cross modulation, growth (creating a larger and more complex circuit), or processing (filtering, distortion). Due to the cycles of voltage and this inherent instability, a definition of what is actually occurring between channels can be hard to pin down. The eight Mod buttons, which are located at the bottom of each tuning fork, change the behavior and sound of each circuit. The eight latching CV buttons along the top allow the “☾” Even and “❍” Odd CV modulation inputs to route to even and odd channels. When incoming CV is unmuted, a channel’s behavior can change drastically and this behavior can change further when channels are linked. These CV inputs are a way to add microtonal pitch changes and/or large textural movement to voices. The Even and Odd CV inputs are summed to their respective channels to provide a rhythmic modulation reference between multiple channels. ⏚

06:36 - Guitar through Phaser
06:04 - Cymbals through Phaser
06:40 - Black VCO to Black LPG and then to Phaser and then to DSP 2"

"The Erica Synths Black K-Phaser is our take on a classical, genre defining FX unit – the Krautrock Phaser.

It retains the original concept of 8 all-pass filters with photoresistors, but we redesigned the filters and modulation circuit and added several unique features. A dip switch allows for selecting the number of filter stages involved in the resonance path, while the resonance attenuverter brings in never-heard-before feedback artefacts, and most importantly – the SPREAD mode detunes the all-pass filters for even more distinct behaviour. A built-in voltage controlled LFO with selectable waveforms expands the modulation possibilities of the phaser and can be used as an independent modulation source for your modular system as well.

The Black K-Phaser is our tribute to the German electronic music pioneers that largely shaped the sound of electronic music worldwide.

Features:

8 all-pass filters with photo-resistor control
Classic and Spread (filter detune) mode
Resonance attenuverter
Selectable resonance path
Built in VC LFO with a dedicated output
Wet output
RRP: 190 EUR (VAT excl.)
MAP: 229 USD"

tahti.studio - Online Elektron Inspired Groovebox with Sample Import

check it out at https://tahti.studio

Mouse over the controls for tips at the bottom of the player.

Some details via Create Digital Music

"maxjvh writes us to tell us about their creation tahti.studio, a labor of love inspired by Elektron’s fine groove hardware and workflows. It seems ideal for the person who adores their Elektron machine enough that they want to have some echo of it even looking back from their browser.

We’ve seen lots of these kinds of creations over the years – ah, remember the days when some folks were predicting browser tools would replace everything else? But this one is unusually powerful.

You get support for your own samples, for one, and easy secret link sharing of grooves you create means you can use this as a collaboration tool – or just a way of sending folks your feelings by drum machine pattern instead of words.

Single cycle waveforms? Yes. Powerful voice architecture? You bet. Per-step trigger conditions and p-locks and microtiming? I mean, honestly, this actually bests a fair amount of hardware. Add some sends and you could even finish stuff on this – but it also looks like a cute way of making some loops at random times that you can later load on your DAW or hardware."

The full feature list:

sample-based sound generation with support for single-cycle waveforms

almost all parameters can be modulated on a per-step basis

each track has a multimode filter, distortion, frequency shifter, sample-rate reducer, and amp envelope

three freely assignable modulation sources per track (essentially flexible LFOs that can be used in one-shot mode)

steps have micro-timing, retriggering, probability, and trigger conditions

tracks can have individual lengths and sequencer speeds (the latter can even be step-modulated, because why not)

four send effect: chorus, phaser, reverb, delay

a master compressor and soft clipper

macro controls for working with all kinds of inputs (check out the shortcuts)

pattern sharing via secret links (e.g. tahti 13)

rendering patterns to .wav"

「DELTA T」by SYNTHFOX

video upload by SYNTHFOX Channel

"Overview of a new SYNTHFOX module, DELTA T! This wonderful delay module goes well beyound the usual delay device topography, allowing for great dynamic control and wide expression ranges."

Reverb dot com shop ➝ https://reverb.com/shop/synthfoxs-bou...

"DELTA T is a feature-rich audio delay module. It's based on the notorious PT2399 digital delay chip and has the trademark combination of lush and noisy that the best of the PT2399-based delays have. However, it goes beyound the delay topography most people are used to. Two input signals are mixed down with the feedback loop return and passed to the delay chip, which is then crossfaded with the initial sound mixture. Voltage control over delay time and crossfade adds great dynamic delay character modulation possibilities. The feedback loop is broken out to dedicated jacks, and any additional sound processor can be put in the module's feedback loop to modify its character. Delay tempo is available as a clocking pulse from the CLK output, and is indicated by the LED, allowing to sync other modules to DELTA T.

Two sound inputs - one attenuated, one direct
Vactrol-based delay time voltage control circuit - no clicks or pops!
Time CV input with an attenuverter
Vactrol-based dry/wet voltage-cotnrolled crossfader
Tempo indication and tempo clocking pulse output

Reverb dot com shop ➝ https://reverb.com/shop/synthfoxs-bou...

"DIGENERATOR is a hybrid digital and analog canvas module. Its firmware defines its action, which ranges from a wavetable VCO and string emulation to short sample playback and microlooping, and beyound.

The internal analog VCO generates a very high frequency timing pulse for the digital part of the module. This VCO has good volt per octave response and an attenuated CV/FM input. DIGENERATOR's digital part is an arduino nano compatible board that runs arbitrary code loaded through the USB port. The code describes the module's actions. The microcontroller can read two OPT switches (can be switched by hand or by an external gate), four GATE inputs and one analog parameter called CHARACTER. It can output a high or low gate on the GATE output, and an 8-bit value converted to voltage on the DAC output.

The DIGENERATOR code is written in C, and there's a lot of firmwares readily available at the DIGENERATOR Firmware Hub. Firmwares are highly customizable, and you don't have to know how to program to customize - in the Firmware Hub, you will find customizers that will generate code with your custom parameters. We also offer a template for you to easily create your custom firmwares! Please, refer to the manual for further details on firmware loading and editing.

Analog VCO with tuned v/o and CV/FM inputs
Digital core capable of running many different firmwares
More than 5 customizable firmwares to try out
8-bit R2R DAC output, in all of its crunchy old computer sound glory
programmable GATE output with an LED
CHARACTER analog parameter with an attenuverted CV input
Four GATE inputs to trigger different events
Two OPTions, selectable manually with a switch, or externally
Loads of fun exploring, customizing and creating firmwares!"

"At the heart of BlastBeats is a vintage FM chip called YMF-262 also known as the OPL3 chip & previously found in computer sound cards of the early 90s.

These chips were notoriously hard to program and were rarely used to their full potential. However, they can produce surprisingly rich beautiful and utterly dirty sounds with a bit of exploring...

By putting so many parameters within easy reach BlastBeasts makes it fun and easy to master the signature sound of the DOS era!
