Polykit Building an Analog Polysynth - Controls Part2

video upload by Polykit

"In this video I look into building a control board for my DIY analog polyphonic synthesizer. The board has sixteen rotary encoders which can be freely assigned to any of the synthesizer's parameter. There is a 16x2 display for user feedback.

Make sure to check out the video playlist on the build process of the voice card and the main board:" [part 1 in the playlist]

A SEQUENCER FROM BERLIN - THE MFB-601

video upload by Polykit Synth

"In this video I look into the history of MFB, a Berlin based manufacturer of musical instruments, and repairing a vintage jewel, the MFB-601 digital sequencer from 1983.

The MFB-601 is sequencing my Kosmo modular synthesizer. Two VCOs are going through a Steiner diode ladder VCF and a spring reverb tank. The MFB-601 is also triggering the MFB-501 drum machine to stay in sync.

Polykit PROGRAMMED A MIDI SEQUENCER IN BASIC (FOR THE COMMODORE VIC-20)

video upload by Polykit

"I've been playing around with a Commodore VIC-20 from the early 80s and a MIDI interface card. I decided to program a simple 16-step sequencer in BASIC - because there is none.

The BASIC source code can be found on my GitHub site: https://github.com/polykit/vic20-sequ..."

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PLAYING ANALOG SYNTHESIZER

video upload by Polykit

"I let an Artificial Intelligence play my DIY Analog Synthesizers. The outcome is most astonishing!

I used MuseNet from @OpenAI to compose all songs in this video. The song titles were also made up by an AI. See links below if you want to try it out yourself.

The Polykit X1 DIY Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer

video upload by Polykit

Follow-up to Prototype of a PATCHABLE analog SYNTHESIZER

"The Polykit X1 - a DIY semi-modular, analog synthesizer. It is based on the voice card I’ve build over the last months. It brings out all parameters of the card and offers a lot of variations through patching.

I've been so happy with the outcome of the voice card for a polyphonic synth that I've build an interface for a single card. It holds jacks for control voltages and signals, pots for all parameters, switches for filter responses, utility circuits and a power supply. It is the first time I used SMD components for all major parts.

You can find all needed files to build one yourself on my GitHub site https://github.com/polykit/polykit-x-...

Prototype of a PATCHABLE analog SYNTHESIZER

video upload by Polykit

"This is a demo of a prototype of a patchable analog synthesizer. It is based on one of my voice cards I have build over the last months."

Github: https://github.com/polykit

Voice Card Specs:
• A single oscillator with saw, triangle and pulse output
• Multiple VCAs to blend between different input signals, a main VCA for the envelope and a panning VCA for stereo output
• An additional external input that can be mixed in, eg. a noise signal
• One envelope generator for the VCA. It can also modulate filter frequency and resonance, also with an inverted signal
• A pole mixing multimode filter with 8 filter responses:
◦ 4P LP
◦ 2P LP
◦ 4P HP
◦ 2P HP
◦ 4P BP
◦ 2P BP
◦ 3P AP + 1P LP
◦ 4P N
• There are multiple options two switch and blend between different signals and filter responses
• PWM, FM and synchronization inputs

MFB 501 vintage DRUM MACHINE from 1980

video upload by Polykit

"This is the MFB 501 drum machine from 1980. I needed to make a custom power supply cable for this rather unusual plug. I'm pretty excited about this because it was made in my home town!"

- AS3372E for VCF, VCA and waveform mixer
- AS3340 as VCO
- AS3310 as ADSR

Specs of the mainboard:
- Holds 6 voice cards
- Microcontroller for voice control and MIDI input
- i2c DACs/ADCs/demultiplexer for parameter/pitch control
- Control and user input

POLYKIT-6 - New DIY Digital Controlled Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer

video upload by Polykit

"Over the last year I built this digitally controlled polyphonic synthesizer. All schematics and PCBs I created myself (except of the chorus). It was harder than I thought to finish this project but I learned how to layout PCBs and a lot about vintage synthesizers.

Specs are:
- 6 voice polyphonic analog DCO based on Juno 106
- Sawtooth and pulse
- PWM control (manual, LFO)
- MIDI input
- CEM3350/AS3350 state variable filter
- Lowpass and bandpass output
- Frequency cutoff controlled by ADSR and LFO
- Resonance control (manual, LFO)
- LFO
- 2x ADSR based on CEM3310/AS3310 (SVF, VCA)
- Juno 60 chorus clone

All schematics and PCB layouts can be found on https://github.com/polykit

Attention! This not for beginnners in electronics nor a finished product."
