Cosmotronic Peradam - Sidechained Distortion

video upload by Cosmotronic

"Peradam is an analog distortion module with an internal sidechain, like a compressor's twisted brother. The input signal is split up in a main signal that goes into a VCA, and side-chain. The side-chain is first phase modulated, and then ring modulated by itself, to create a signal at twice the frequency of the original. This signal then modulates the amplitude of the VCA, creating complex self distortions in the main signal.

That output then goes into a dual band drive circuit, similar to the one found in Cosmix, before entering a soft clipper output stage. Things get really wild when you start feedbacking this output back into the input, creating very rich feedback tones.

The module even goes into self oscillation at high feedback levels, producing all sorts of crazy sounds. Modulating all these parameters gives a broad palette of distortions, from subtle saturation to massive clipping and complete destruction.

Need a bit more drive? There's a handy +6dB gain switch on the input for that. A blend slider allows you to further dial in your tones, and mix in the distortion to taste.

Cosmotronic Messor - Stereo Compressor

video upload by Cosmotronic

"Messor is an analog stereo compressor with lots of tricks up its sleeve in only 8HP.
From squashing drums, sidechaining kicks and sculpting transients, to glueing a mix together, it's a very versatile dynamics manager.

At its core it's a VCA based feed-forward compressor with a low noise signal path. The magic is in the internal sidechain that shapes the gain reduction envelope. This starts with a a switchable high-pass / low-pass filter, before going into a precision envelope follower, controlled by familiar parameters: the attack, release, threshold, ratio and makeup gain.

The ratio can go past limiting and into over-compression, which can completely reshape transients, a great tool for sound design.

Being modular, of course there are CV inputs for Attack, Release and the side-chain Filter cutoff. The Gain CV controls the makeup gain, but also doubles as a Stereo VCA with the Gain knob turned fully CCW.

The gain reduction envelope is also available as an output, for turning filters or other VCA's into compressors for example, or as a standalone envelope follower.

There's a bypass switch, and a Warm mode, that can bring in a bit of additional saturation and compression in the form of analog tube simulation circuitry.
Lastly there's the possibility to insert an external sidechain, for that classic kick sidechain compression.

New Tiptop Audio WAYOUT8 Eurorack Patchbay

via Tiptop Audio

"WAYOUT8 is a patchbay module for Eurorack systems used to group your DAW inputs and outputs, or manage signals going from one case to another. Wayout8 is grounded, meaning that even if nothing is plugged into the inputs your outputs are still grounded and will not pick up noise. The module is made so it can be mounted two ways, with outputs on the left or right, whichever is the most ergonomic placement in your case. All eight channels are passive so they do not modify your signals and can be used for audio and CV Gate. No power is required."

"Odds is an oscillator plugin with stochastic control synthesis, designed and developed by Sinevibes. Works with KORG prologue, minilogue xd and NTS-1 synthesizers. Product page: https://www.sinevibes.com/korgodds/"

"Odds is a stochastic control synthesis plugin for KORG prologue, minilogue xd and NTS-1. It starts with a hybrid engine that features dual oscillators with a wide variety of sources – including virtual analog, FM, phase distortion, waveshaping, ring modulation, cross modulation, and lo-fi – all of them running at double the system sample rate for highest possible quality. Together with a state-variable filter, Odds offers a total of 80 different configurations, covering a huge spectrum of sounds. But the “stochastic control” part is what takes this plugin to an entirely new level: for every note played, Odds has variable trigger probability, selectable pitch transpose randomization patterns, plus further independent randomization of up to 4 additional synth engine parameters. These advanced features make it possible to create extremely complex, never-repeating melodic and tonal variations even out of the most basic note sequences. Add to this a highly flexible modulation generator with a multitude of envelope and LFO shapes – and, right within your existing device, you have the synthesis power and sophistication that can rival a small modular system.

Triple Voltage Controlled Crossfader by Arcus Audio

video upload by Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video resident expert Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) shares a few useful patches with the incredibly powerful and fun to use Triple VC Xfader by Arcus Audio.

Open up a world of new sounds and interesting modulation sources with the triple VC XFader from Arcus Audio! Crossfade between oscillators to create new tones, or fade between control voltages for new, complex modulations. Use audio rate CV for amplitude modulation, or take the normalized outputs to create a stereo path sending each output to different effects. Even try inserting at the end of two patches to crossfade between them. Great for adding variation in a live setting or when just jamming. Of course you can always self-patch to push it even further, or use as a standard triple LIN/EXP VCA. The possibilities are endless with this module!

- Triple Voltage Controlled Crossfader (VC XFader) with selectable linear or exponential CV response. CV attenuverters. Bi-color LEDs for each CV signal as well as each channel output. LED indication of channel bias.
- Soft touch knobs for attenuverters, bias, and LIN/EXP controls.
- Each of 3 crossfaders is normalled (mixed) to the next channel. Normalization is broken when outputs are patched. This allows the unit to work as a 6 input crossfader, triple VCA, or any combination between.

Rumble of Ancient Times DEMO | No Talking

via SOMA SYNTHS

Rumble of Ancient Times (RoAT) is an 8-bit noise synthesizer and sequencer inspired by the clever programming of the early PC era when an entire video game would fit on a floppy disk. RoAT is capable of a wide variety of sounds ranging from dense noise scapes to diverse glitching rhythmic patterns. The compact and portable instrument contains many elements that can be combined into surprising musical results.

The 'heart' of the synthesizer contains 4 sound oscillators, each with a tunable waveform and an individual LFO, which can modulate the tone or volume of the oscillator. The modulated signal of each oscillator is mixed with other signals using 1,536 variations of complex summing algorithms that contain FM, ring modulation, bitwise logical operations and more.

The synth contains an 8-bit resonant lowpass filter with a distinct Lo-Fi character. The built-in sequencer can be synced to an external device and also send clock out. RoAT is battery powered and can work up to 130 hours on one set of AAA batteries.

Rumble of Ancient Times is built on a very simple 8-bit microcontroller similar to the ones used in the “brains” of old refrigerators and other simple electronic devices. Thanks to some very clever programming, it’s also able to drive a very capable synth with many features!

In stark contrast to modern consumer electronics, this synth celebrates and emphasizes what can be achieved with efficiency of code and using chips considered obsolete by industry leaders. We live in an age where text editors can be 1GB or more and simple things like checking email require the latest OS and powerful processing, despite the core tasks being no different than 15 years ago with a fraction of the computational power.

So RoAT proposes a new kind of ecological thinking with the innovative use of chips that were developed and produced decades ago, instead of turning them into millions of tons of trash. We can still use technology that the industry forced us to consider obsolete, with the added benefit here of extremely low power consumption. It’s an environmentally friendlier approach than galloping in the rush of planned obsolescence that damages our planet and wastes precious resources.

Rumble of Ancient Times was designed and programmed by Kakos Nonos, a new creative mind who joined the SOMA development team. His very unique style of building electronic musical instruments combines quality craftsmanship, advanced programming and a love for medieval acoustic instruments such as gusli, wheeled lyre and bagpipes."

Electric Music Store - 292Cr

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via NOISEBUG Reverb

"This units 'ALL' output does not send any audio. Everything else functions as it should. Unit is being SOLD AS IS.

Four independent gates with selectable amplitude-dependents spectral characteristics. Knob settings and applied control voltages determine levels and cutoff frequencies. A summed output facilitates voltage controlled mixing.

The Model 292, with the capability of simulating the spectral and amplitude changes that accompany a receding sound source, is one of several Electric Music Box modules that can deal with spatial localization and movement. [Others are the Model 227 System Interface and the 285 Frequency Shifter/Balanced Modulator (for Doppler shift).]

Frequency domain gating can impart a dynamic tonal variation to sounds that gives the listener a sense of absolute loudness. This quality is characteristic of all acoustic instruments (the harder you strike, pluck, or bow, the richer the overtone structure), but has been lacking in electronic instrumentation."

Note Electric Music Store is Roman Filippov's of Black Corporation. This appears to be the first post to feature the 292Cr.

Electroserf Vacuum Tube Synthesizer Modules

video upload by epeasant

"Introduction to The Electronic Peasant's Electroserf synthesizer modules, based on Russian 1J24b vacuum tubes from the cold war days. These subminiature pentode tubes were used in the early MiG jet fighter radios, at a time when the western world had already changed over to solid state electronics.

These tubes are long obsolete, but available in the surplus market. Their small size, low voltage requirements, and low power heaters make them suitable for synthesizer use, while their low power output, gain and directly-heated cathodes bring their own design challenges."
