gettin moody with the 1981 Oberheim OB-Xa

video upload by J3PO

"The Oberheim OB-Xa is one of they vibiest synths of all time, in my opinion. This video is an exploration of tone and sound, hopefully capturing the essence of the beautiful pads, strings, plucks, and soundscapes that the instrument is capable of creating. Some patches are factory and some are presets I've made. The OB-Xa is also capable of making incredible basses, aggressive brasses, leads, and so on, but in this video, I've decided to present to you what I think the instrument excels at: the softer side of things--creating moody atmospheres and melancholic tones.

This particular OB-Xa was serviced recently by Rob Rosen at Rosen Sound in Burbank, CA.

I have preset banks available for the Prophet Rev 2, Prophet 6, OB-6, Prophet 5/10, XLN Audio's Addictive Keys Mark One, Softube’s Model 84, and the DiscoDSP OB-Xd available on my website If you're a Nord Stage 3 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website."
