This video is an exploration of tone and sound, hopefully capturing the essence of the beautiful pads, strings, plucks, and soundscapes that the instrument is capable of creating. Some patches are factory and some are presets I've made. The OB-Xa is also capable of making incredible basses, aggressive brasses, leads, and so on, but in this video, I've decided to present to you what I think the instrument excels at: the softer side of things--creating moody atmospheres and melancholic tones.

However, it was not designed as a self-contained completely independent soft-synth. It needs to be contained within a VST framework where things like transposition, automation, layering, arpeggiation, etc., are available.

Also, like many synths of the OB-X's generation, the OB-Xd has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc."

discoDSP Takes Over Ownership of OB-Xd

You might remember the OB-Xd from this previous video. It looks like discoDSP has taken over development.

"It was kind of surprise to see that discoDSP announced this week that it has taken over the OB-Xd Synthesizer project. Before some years, Soshi Studio developed this Synthesizer Plugin (PC, MAC, Linux) and released for free in all the communities. Now this great plugin has a new home. The developer behind the Corona Synthesizer, Discovery Pro Synthesizer and many more got the rights of this plugin and continue this product.

For all users who doesn't use this plugin yet or not heart before, OB-Xd is a free Oberheim OB-X, OB-Xa and OB-8 Synthesizer emulation. For a free project, the sound quality is really good.
