"Proteus is an algorithmic sequencer with a short attention span.
Proteus creates a melody, then repeats that melody over and over again. Each time the melody is played, there’s some chance that Proteus will get bored and scrap the melody in favor of a brand new one. How fast it gets bored is up to you, and depends upon the PATIENCE parameter.
Proteus’s melodies aren’t simply random; they are generated by an algorithm designed to make sequences that are more humanlike and musical. You can save and recall melodies that you like using the Pattern Bank.
Play with Proteus to explore the balance between repetition and variation, to inspire you and accompany you in your own musical improvisations."
