SILT - A Generative Tape-Loop Instrument by Tunary Instruments

SILT is a new instrument from Tunary Instruments who brought us ARGISH.

It's available online and as an AU/VST3/Standalone (Mac) + VST3/Standalone (Windows).

Details from the creator follow:

"I've just put out the second Tunary instrument, and it's the opposite animal: SILT, a generative tape-loop instrument.

Four short melodic loops of different lengths run through a warm tape machine and slowly drift out of phase, so the music writes itself from the drift — soft music-box tones, smeared by wow, dust and age, over field recordings of birds, stream and vinyl. Press play and it settles into gentle, ever-shifting ambient that never quite repeats. It's the Reich/Basinski tape-loop idea, turned into an instrument you just leave running.

Like everything we make, the sound engine is algorithmic — real synthesis and DSP, no AI, no trained models, no 'generate' button. You steer the mood; it does the drifting."
