FIMM – FM SYNTH MODULE

8-Voice 4-Operator FM • X-MOD Chaos • Morph • Arpeggiator • Hand-Built in Northern Ireland

A desktop FM synthesiser – play it from any MIDI keyboard, sequencer or DAW

WHAT IS IT?

FIMM is an 8-voice, 4-operator FM synthesiser with an engine written from scratch. It does the bright electric pianos, bells, basses, brass and metallic tones of the classic 1980s FM keyboards – and then goes much further.

The X-MOD section adds cross-modulation, ring modulation and hard sync, driven by the mod wheel, LFO, velocity, aftertouch, random or chaos sources, for sounds that growl, clang, tear and fall apart. Morph glides one patch into another as you play, and there is a built-in arpeggiator, chorus, delay and reverb. It also imports Yamaha voice banks over MIDI SysEx: 4-operator DX100, DX21, DX27 and TX81Z banks load directly, and DX7 voices are converted too – exactly when they use four operators, and as the closest 4-operator match when they use five or six.
