Rob Papen announces availability of QUAD-2 virtual instrument plug-in as followup to QUAD, initially introduced as Rack Extension synthesizer for Reason

ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: Rob Papen Inspiration Soundware is proud to announce availability of QUAD-2 as a followup to QUAD — initially introduced as its first Rack Extension synthesizer built from the ground up for the-then Swedish software company Propellerhead’s popular Reason platform (anchored around a user interface mimicking a rack full of equipment, allowing instruments, effects, and mixers to be linked together in order to create a complete production setup) back in October 2014, before popular demand drove the Dutch virtual instrument and effect plug-in developer into making it more widely available as an AAX-, AU-, and VST-compatible virtual instrument plug-in for Mac and PC in April 2020 — with an updated user interface and added features, as of October 7…

By boldly updating its user interface and adding notable new features like the creative RIBBON CONTROLLER, more filter types (to now total 43), more top-tier FX types (to now total 48), and much more besides, QUAD-2 takes the Reason-only original QUAD concept to a whole new level as a 16-voice virtual synthesizer with PHASE DISTORTION and WAVE SHAPER sound-sculpting tools taking centre stage as an integral part of the two oscillators beating at its creative heart. Those tools — unique as they are already — are brought to life by the two X Y control pads in each oscillator, each of which can be moved through an extensive modulation matrix or that newly-added RIBBON CONTROLLER.

Clarifies Rob Papen, proudly: “There are over 1,200 presets, and all of the original presets are also available inside the MANAGER, but, since we added the RIBBON CONTROLLER, the cool thing now is that any selected preset also allows the sound to change. There’s a special RIBBON modulation matrix, with default amounts in each preset, but you can change them.”

The Dutch virtual instrument and effect plug-in developer’s figurehead is understandably keen to highlight what is new in QUAD-2, continuing, “We now have the ‘Wave’ display, with quite a few things going on, which is nice. Also new is our ‘User Wave’ [U-WAVE], where you can draw your own user wave, or select waveforms in SHAPER MODE, for each oscillator. The RIBBON CONTROLLER itself has 12 slots — the default SOURCE selection for each slot is Ribbon, but if you select the MOD matrix and need more then you can also go to the RIBBON and instead of Ribbon you also have the option to pick another one. There is also an ADVANCED mode — for instance, if you go to the right, the Ribbon kicks in at a later point on the parameter you addressed it to. The basic concept of the QUAD synthesizer is based on the Rack Extension format, which has a limitation in terms of size and positioning stuff, but this is not the case with QUAD-2, of course, so the two filters [FILTER 1 and FILTER 2] both have their own envelopes, the arpeggiator [ARP] has been expanded and now has ratcheting [RTCH] and different modes, including modulation and sequencing — all familiar from our other products. There are three FX now — originally there were two, with everything from our virtual effect plug-ins. Put it this way: QUAD has essentially been reworked to become QUAD-2, so on our website we now have 12 different synthesizer concepts available — ain’t that cool!”

QUAD-2 is available — as a 64-bit AAX-, AU-, VST-, and VST3-compatible virtual instrument plug-in for Mac (OS X 10.15 or higher, ARM processor compatible) and as a 64-bit VST- and VST3-compatible virtual instrument plug-in for PC (Windows 7 or higher) with 64-bit AAX compatibility available for PT 12 or higher (PC) — at an attractive price of only €49.00 EUR/$49.00 USD from authorised Rob Papen dealers worldwide or as a download directly from Rob Papen for that same price via its dedicated webpage here: https://www.robpapen.com/Quad-2.html (Owners of QUAD or QUAD-RE — the Reason version of QUAD — can upgrade to QUAD-2 for €25.00 EUR/$25.00 USD, or for free if QUAD or QUAD-RE was purchased after July 1, 2026.)

QUAD-2 is included in eXplorer-11 (https://www.robpapen.com/explorer-11.html), the latest version of Rob Papen’s all-encompassing bundle, at no additional cost; existing owners only have to download the latest installer and run it to add QUAD-2 to their Rob Papen virtual instrument and effect plug-in collection.
