SUPERBOOTH 2024: Reason Studios - Reason 13 DAW
video upload by sonicstate
"At Superbooth 2024 we met up with Mattias at the Reason Studios booth to find out about *Reason 13*. This is the latest iteration of the DAW from Reason Studios, and it's packing some serious enhancements. This version promises to revolutionize your workflow with a completely revamped browser, an array of new Rack devices, and a treasure trove of patches, samples, and loops. There is a new 2 oscillator synth, *Polytone*, which is designed as the go-to for classic synth sounds, and has randomizer function with which Mattias demonstrated some delicious clangerous sounds. The interface and sequencer have been meticulously redesigned for a smoother, more intuitive experience, allowing you to focus purely on your creative flow.
Reason 13 now includes a unified browser for easy access to patches, samples, and loops with enhanced filtering options. The new Rack services bring powerful tools like Sidechain, Gain, and Stereo, while the improved sequencer offers better zooming and layout modifications. The redesigned interface ensures faster navigation, making Reason 13 an efficient and inspiring music production environment.
Reason 13 will be out June 18th 2024, but the beta is available very soon.

Dark jam with Ableton Push 3, PWM Malevolent, and Hologram Chroma Console
video upload by Jay Hosking
"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.
This is the third track I've made specifically for the Push 3, and I'm having a better and better time as I go. There are a few behind-the-scenes videos about this particular setup over on my Patreon.
The idea is that the set/album is playable live without requiring too much mental juggling, but since I'm only presenting them as individual songs, I thought I'd add in the PWM Malevolent for fun. The Malevolent adds well to the overall feeling I'm going for in these songs, and the Chroma Console helps shape the sound even more. Makes me wonder what I could add next time for fun!
Looking forward to playing these all as a set. Hopefully soon!
Thanks for listening.
Reason 12 (behind the scenes) — a lot of the songwriting and structuring
Ableton Push 3 — most sounds, effects, and performance
PWM Malevolent through Hologram Chroma Console — gritty synth bass thing
Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

AudioPilz Built ReBirth FOR REAL and This Happened (Bad Gear)
video upload by AudioPilz
"Welcome to another non - Bad Gear episode. I built ReBirth for real and this happened. Propellerhead Rebirth RB-338, the iconic 90s music production software and virtual groovebox was my first electronic musical instrument. Since then I had the dream of reconstructing the classic setup consisting of a Roland TR-808, a Roland TR-909, two Roland TB-303 and specific set of effects. Can we recreate the software workflow, are the famous vintage instruments as great as anybody is telling you and is all this worth the hassle?

Superbooth 2023: Reason Studios - Objekt
video upload by sonicstate
"Matthias from Reason Studios told us about their latest release, the Objekt Modeling Synthesizer. The synth features a physical modeling engine that offers realistic sounds for both existing and non-existing instruments, and also provides very convincing emulations of acoustic basses and the like. Matthias explained that they wanted to create a synthesizer that goes beyond mere emulation, with access to every parameter that exists, resulting in exciting sounds that have not been heard before. The synth features three resonators at its core, two of which are waveguide-like, that interact with different frequencies to produce a variety of sounds. The Exciter section, on the other hand, gives you the ability to excite the synth with anything, from static noise to your voice or beatboxing.
Available now. Price: 99 GBP (Currently on sale at: 79 GBP)"
Introducing Objekt Modeling Synthesizer for Reason!
video upload by Reason Studios
"Synthesize reality with Objekt, a physical modeling synth for new and unique acoustic sounds. Discover the character of organic instruments and real-world materials. Dynamic, playable, and easily customizable.
Producers and beat makers are on the hunt for new sounds with an acoustic flavor. Sounds that can’t be easily duplicated by just any plugins or samples. That’s why Objekt doesn’t play back pre-recorded instruments, it synthesizes them.
Explore hundreds of patches ranging from bells, mallets, percussion, stringed instruments and more. Move any parameter to see what happens. Where you end up might sound familiar or like an imaginary instrument that doesn’t exist. Until now."
Learn Physical Modeling Synthesis with Objekt from Reason Studios
video upload by Reason Studios
"Objekt Modeling Synthesizer for Reason is a whole new type of synthesis for most people but that's why we packed it into the form factor that would be both easiest to learn and most powerful when you've got it down — a classic Reason Rack synth.
In this deep dive, Ryan will show you how to get started with physical modeling synthesis and how you can either build sounds from scratch if you're a sound designer or modify existing sounds in entirely new ways if you're a musician looking to get inspired.
Contents of this video:
0:00 - Introduction
1:53 - Real world sounds
3:16 - Basic Objekt patch
7:12 - Objekt’s mixer
8:38 - Exciter Impact section
13:55 - Exciter Noise section
18:40 - ADSR vs CPDDD
24:27 - Randomizer
27:41 - Tuning offset"
Objekt is an open-ended physical modeling synthesizer, meaning it models the properties of acoustic instruments and gives you control over those as parameters. Instead of choosing between pre-made options, it opens the hood to the inner workings of physical modeling synthesis so that you can experiment and approach it like what it really is: a synthesizer.
At the heart of Objekt are three resonating objects, think of them like the instrument itself, with in-depth control to create anything from a string or bell to a skin or something yet unheard. The instrument is then set in motion by the Exciter section. From the short impact of a stick to a wash of noisy static, the Exciter lets you play the instrument in dynamic and wonderful ways. Tweak the sound to suit your needs or invent entirely new instruments with just a few parameter changes. Objekt generates all sound in real time without relying on pre-recorded samples which makes it dynamic, playable, and easily customizable—but also fast and lightweight.
Need somewhere to start? Explore over 500 expertly crafted patches covering a wide range of sounds. Objekt excels at both realistic reproductions and new imaginary instruments that doesn’t exist. Until now. Move any parameter to see what happens. Use the powerful randomizer to slightly alter a patch or morph it to a brand new direction. Start from scratch and see where you end up. Objekt’s designed to be explored on your terms.
Objekt is perfectly integrated into the Reason Rack workflow with the familiar browser, native undo, CV and audio cables, and more. You can even connect any audio signal to the External Input and use any sound to excite the instrument’s resonators to incredible effect, think of it like an “acoustic vocoder”.
Features
Open-ended physical modeling synthesis for unique acoustic sounds
Dynamic, lifelike, and easily customizable
Powerful randomizer for instant variation and inspiration
Over 500 included patches
Included with Reason+
Requires Reason 10.1 or later. The included Combinator patches require Reason 12.

Soundtrack music with Korg ARP Odyssey, piano, Dreadbox Typhon, and Nymphes
video upload by Jay Hosking
"A song comprised of two live performances with both hardware and software.
I have a hand surgery scheduled for this week, and wanted to get in one last piano performance before my hand was out of commission for a while. These are the results. The end result seems clearly inspired by some of my favourite OST music.
Native Instruments Noire (played on Kawai CA49) - piano
Korg ARP Odyssey - melody
Arturia Analog Lab and Dreadbox Nymphes - pad
Reason Thor and Dreadbox Typhon - bass
Red70 controlled by MIDI Fighter Twister - doubled right hand piano arpeggio
Recorded as two live performances into Reason Studios' Reason. Additional effects (mainly Arturia and Reason) added in the box, plus EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

via Eplex7
Eplex7 DSP has released Psytrance Bass SPX90, a psytrance VST bassline plugin synthesizer.
Bass is one of the most important elements in psytrance music. A proper psytrance bass must match the kick, it must have the right percussiveness, tonality, sharpness, the ratio between bass and sub-bass. It must also have a stable phase, the ideal length / shape of the envelope. It can not create clicks and pops like many VA synthesizers do (which are not suitable for this purpose, because they modulate the sound and phase).
Psytrance Bass SPX90 is a classic psytrance bass VST synthesizer available in 32 and 64 bits. It is suitable for the classic genre of psytrance music, darkpsy, psycore, fullon psytrance, goatrance, and can also be used perfectly in the genres of hits, techtrance, or progressive psytrance. Of course, it can be used in a whole range of other genres such as tekno, acid, rave, techno, classic trance, electro house, and many others.
In addition to classic features, it also has modern elements for creating modern and non- traditional types of bass, such as the Deep Sine-Saw I and II oscillators, Deeptron, Saw HRM1 and HRM2, adjustable sound character such as high sharpness or deep fatness.
SPX90 has a whole range of parameters and virtual circuits adapted to create original psytrance basses, 12 oscillators, analog saturating acid filter, saturation unit, fast precise filter and volume envelope adapted for fast psy basses without clicks and pops, gliding poly and mono mode, oscillator sound characteristics - high sharpness and deep fatness.
The preset manager comes with 46 tuned presets for various subgenres of psychedelic and electronic music.
Features:
- Psytrance bassline oscillator, with 12 shapes -Analog Saw, Digital Saw, Saw HRM1, Saw DRM2, Vintage saw, Analog Ramp,Digital Ramp, Digital Square, Classic Square, Deep Sine-Saw, Deep Sine-Saw 2, Deeptron
fine-tunning, octave sellector
- Fast and precise filter + volume envelope designed for fast percussive and stable psytrance basslines: attack, decay, sustain, envelope amount knobs
- Acid type analog filter with Cutoff and Resonance controls
- Oscillator sound characteristics - high sharpness and deep fatness controls
- Fat and heavy saturation with control knob (but can be also light gentle and stable at low settings)
- Mono, Polyphonic modes, Gliding control
- Preset manager with 46 fine-tuned presets for various subgenres of psychedelic and electronic music.
Compatibility: Windows 32 bit / 64 bit VST host

Synth jam with Arturia MiniFreak, Dreadbox Erebus, eurorack drums, and Reason 12 synths
video upload by Jay Hosking
"An impromptu song that started on hardware synths and eurorack, and was finished by adding some extra sounds in the box.
This is a great example of why I love both hardware (it's inspiring!) and software (it has incredible power and can get the job finished!). Here, I was just trying out a new eurorack drum sequencer, decided to send the kick trig to the Erebus, and then began noodling on top with the MiniFreak. I wrote the song before I even knew I was writing a song. And while it was super inspiring, I could tell that I'd need a bunch more instruments to make the song feel finished. Rather than expanding the table and slowing down the creative process, I captured the inspiration already there and finished off the job in Reason afterward. It was definitely the right approach.
Dreadbox Erebus through Source Audio Ventris - bass synth locked to kick
Arturia MiniFreak - melody and pads
Eurorack drums:
- Intellijel Steppy - sequencer
- Mystic Circuits IDUM - extra glitch sequencing
- ALM Busy Circuits Pamela's New Workout - clock and LFOs
- Prok drums - kick, snare, hats
- WMD Fracture - glass-breaking claps
- Intellijel Mixup - mixing
- Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio - ducked reverb
- Intellijel FSR 1U - performance of glass breaking and reverb room size
- Endorphin.es Golden Master 1U - multi-band compression and EQ
- Intellijel Mixer 1U - output mixer
Reason 12 instruments:
- Monotone - extra bass stabs in bridges and choruses 2 and 3
- Complex-1 - arp thing, and drone/brass/pad thing
- Audio editing/pitch adjustment of the Erebus notes in the chorus (didn't have enough hands during the jam)
Hardware synths recorded together live, with a few extra tracks in the box afterward. EQ'd, compressed, limited, etc. during the final mix/master.
Thanks for listening.
