The Alpha Series & Processed by Rupert Lally

"'Alpha Series' is an e.p.of experimental Ambient music, made using only the credit card-sized Mixtape Alpha synth and a TC Electronic Flashback delay, reminiscent of 60s/70s sci-fi soundtracks and The Radiophonic Workshop"

"Companion album to 'Process': U.S. - based Electronic Musician, Audiofr3q created new sounds using the free 'Process' remix pack. Rupert Lally then created a new set of tracks from these sounds; resulting in an album that compliments the orignal whilst exploring it's own sonic territory."

Details on Open Music Labs x0x-heart $79 Mini DIY TB-303

and kicking! Published on Aug 31, 2013 openmusiclabs·16 videos

"the camera did some wierd things to the audio in places (mostly at high resonance). the yellow wires swapped saw/square."

Follow-up to "it's alive!" posted here.

"The x0x-heart is the heart of the infamous TB-303, surgically extracted to be transplanted into your designs. The x0x-heart is just the analog section of the TB-303, replicated with SMT components, and made small enough to fit into a Eurorack modular format. It even has a Eurorack power header on it.

The x0x-heart is designed to be small, inexpensive, and a close replica of the TB-303. It is not a perfect replica – some sacrifices were made to keep costs down – but it’s pretty darn close. It also has no pots or controls, making it great for DIY synth building. All of the useful I/O points are pinned out, and as a special bonus feature, digital control is given for Accent, Slide, Decay, Waveform select, Cutoff, and Env Mod. For all the nitty-gritty details, and a user manual, check out the x0x-heart wiki. Or, wander over to the x0x-heart store to pick up your very own."

Mixtape Alpha Crowdfuning for Re-Release

"Mixtape Alpha is currently crowdfunding on Portland, Ore. based Crowd Supply (www.crowdsupply.com). Mixtape Alpha is a re-release of our pocket-sized 8-bit synth. Complete with four voices, four effects, five-note polyphony, record, playback, and more!

http://www.crowdsupply.com/open-music-labs/mixtape-alpha (click through for additional details & video)

Mixtape Alpha has:

· a stylophone style input for continuous tone generation

· six buttons for discrete notes

· four voices

· four effects

· five-note polyphony

Loop. Play. Record.

You are able to loop a pattern and play a second part on top. But, the best of all, you can record the songs you make. Trade Mixtapes with your friends! Each Mixtape Alpha will come in its own cassette case, with instructions.

Open Source Design

If you want to dig into the guts of this 8-bit synth, check out the wiki page. You will find all the schematics and code, and we even have a Pure Data patch for making your own wavetables.

The project is based on the same processor used in the Arduino (the ATmega328p), and all of the source code is online, so it can be hacked to make even crazier sounds than we came up with.

Thank you for considering posting this project!

Cheers,

Phil Gentile"

MIDIvampire-II: Drum Synth

Published on Aug 14, 2013

http://www.openmusiclabs.com/projects...

"MIDIvampire-II: A phantomly powered drum synth. It has 4 independent outputs, with attack, decay, release, FM, filter cutoff and sweep, wavetable selection, pitch, frequency sweep, and a bitcrusher."

"The MIDIvampire-II is a 4 voice drum machine, with independent outputs for each voice. It has 2 wavetable voices for making kick drums, toms, wood blocks, bells, and a host of other sounds. There is a voice set aside for hi-hats and cymbals, and another which is a filtered noise source, which can make snares and hollow-tube sounds. Each voice has separate attack, decay, and release, along with frequency sweep, and a bunch of other effects for warping the sounds to fit all your percussive needs.

All of the documentation, including the MIDI implementation is up on the MIDIvamp Wiki. And, if you want to pick one up, swing by the store and have a look."
