Projekt Elektronik Modular

via sequencer.de via somewhere on Muff's. See the Projekt Elektronik for more posts.

Update via 7ate9 in the comments: "the muffwiggler thread is here with more pics"

It looks like the system was from 1976 based on a letter from 1981:

"Dear Sir,

We send you some photos of that synthesizer, we built in 1976 for P. Baumann. Today it is used by Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream.

Sorry, but it needed some days to copy the photos. the big modules have the same size like MOOG's 960;VCOs, VCF's, and VCA's the same like two 902's. For further details we have to meet us and talk about, because every user has other interests to combine the modules.

Yours, sincerely

PROJECT ELECTRONIK GMBH

H.Heinze"

Update via Cornel in the comments: "The system is based also on ARP and PPG modules."

SFH DIY Polyphonic Synthesizer

This one in via André. You can find full details and more images on Elektronik-Projekte in German. The following is a translation of part of the description in Googlish:

"This synthesizer is my largest project so far. I have built good 3 years out (1989-1992) and in fact the device has never been properly finished. The basic functions are, however, almost completely, ie You can elicit this synth sounds absolutely fantastic.
The programming of sounds is a bit cumbersome: About the control keyboard 48 parameters can be set by the oscillator, filter, affecting the amplifier and the envelopes. Here are some pots were really served well, but that would have been too costly.

Here are a few technical details are the synthesizer:
* Keypad: 4 octaves (not velocity sensitive)
* Tone Generation: 6x DCO, 6x DCA, DCF 1x, 1x Noise
* Polyphony: 6-coherent or 3-consistent when using 2 DCO per voice
* 4 FX buttons: pitch up, pitch down, modulation, chord memory
* Operation over 12 buttons and 4-digit LED display
* Direct Sound for an additional keyboard with 32 keys
* Interfaces: MIDI In, MIDI Out, MIDI Through, Tape, Audio Out, Headphone "

VEMIA - Moog Projekt Elektronik mod-ed 960s

via this VEMIA auction
"No documentary evidence, but these are believed to have been owned by Tangerine Dream, and modified for them by Projekt Elektronik or Wolfgang Palm. The photo of Edgar Froese is believed to show these two sequencers - one above the Four-Voice, and one under the MS-10. Some features of the modifications seem to have been disabled or altered, so some servicing or re-modding may be needed. All early (R.A. Moog) items: 2x 960, 1x 961, 2x 962s. Re-cased at some time in their history into what looks like a IIIP-style case with two knobs on top. Another item needing to be sold to finance a large modular synth restoration."

Update via Micke in the comments:
"The big sequencer above the Oberheim Four voice in the photo with Edgar Froese is a Synthanorma (built by Matten & Wiechers), not Moog.

Other artists/bands using this type of sequencer were Klaus Schulze and Kraftwerk (who used a special version of it)."

"The Synthanorma sequencer was part of Peter Schmoelling's stage rig during TD's concert in East-Berlin way back in Jan 1980."

Tangerine Dream's Christopher Franke's Modular

via Nick

"please find in a attachment a picture, which is part of a research I do for the 80's modular rack equipment of Tangerine Dream's Christopher Franke. The most elements about the rack's contents I found in an 1981 article of UK magazine 'Electronics & Music Maker'. Part of it, as you will see in the picture -upper corner, was a compination of two revolutinary drum modules (using EPROM samples, were custom made for Franke) and an sequencer module (the "rhythm robot") This drum amchine can be heard in "Exit" (1981) and mostly in "White eagle"(1982)albums. Would be helpful if readers and viewers could help intentifying the unknown parts of this thing, which is essentially the 1980 hardware equal of "Reason"!
Thank you very much - Nick"

Thank you! If you can help, feel free to post in the comments.

Update: Make sure to check out the comments. Some fascinating stuff coming in.
