"This synth demonstration from Rare Waves uses the Grendel DC-2 as a tone source. Grendel Formant Filter provides vowel filtering, and Grendel RA-99 Grenadier is performing the LFO duties. Rare Waves Hydronium is used as a MIDI-CV converter to set the pitch of the DC-2's oscillators. In the picture you also see a prototype Polyphonic Strobe Tuner, which provides a real-time pitch analysis. Also heard in the mix are prototypes of a Surf Sound Synthesizer and Spring Reverb. "Grendel RA-99 Grenadier is in production! More details coming soon at rarewaves.net. This is an audio demo with nasty bass drums, growling arpeggios, and wobbly formant synthesis tones. It’s a dry recording with no FX. RA-99 Grenadier is a true analog synthesizer with 14 sound parameters controlled by rotary knobs and 6 pushbuttons. It has a 20-point patch bay that greatly expands your options for creative CV, gate, and audio signal routing. This is a one-oscillator monosynth with VC waveshape, subharmonic generator, plus a pink noise source. Its accurate and FM-able VCO has 2x 1V/oct inputs, a 5V/oct input thats great for octave trills, plus a 15V/oct input for vibrato and narrow pitch bending. The RA-99 filter bank has 3 VCFs in parallel, tunable with its Alpha, Beta, and Filter parameters for a wide range of tones including vowels and vocal-like sounds. Its modulation section can be configured as 2x envelope , 2x LFO, or one of each. The envelopes can be either Decay or Attack-Release and have bipolar depth. As LFOs, they have variable symmetry and can act as frequency divider or stair-step voltage sources. The synthesizer is housed in a tough anodized aluminum case and features protective hand grips just like the original Grendel RA-9 Grenadier. Manufactured by Rare Waves (Texas). "This video demonstrates a experimental audio filter effect. The Lite2Sound PX photodiode amplifier kit v.1.4 from rarewaves.net is used. The CRT is a Tektronix 603 X-Y monitor. Connect an audio sawtooth oscillator to the X input. Connect the Lite2Sound output to the Y input, and also to the speakers. Point the photodiode at the CRT. Objects that block the photodiode's view of the CRT are transformed into audio waveforms. The silhouette of the obstruction becomes impressed into the audio waveform and you can morph it in real time by moving your hand. The sound is like a combination of PWM and notch / bandpass filter. And at the end of the video, the original "comb filter" effect is demonstrated!"

"I’m testing new hardware for algorithmic/generative music composition. This is a recording of an improvised melodic duet performed on two analog synthesizers simultaneously. The sequences are generated by an algorithm I’ve developed. It accepts guidance from the performer using a MIDI controller as input. The performer uses parameters that affect the melody, rhythm, timbre, and structure. "My DIY groovebox. I am a beginner. Just got started this year after watching videos by Casper Electronics. Highly recommended! I followed up by researching 9v/12v single supply circuits, and after much trial and error I came up with this final product. Many thanks to the folks on the Synth DIY forums on Facebook and elsewhere for tons of advice. Also many thanks to Nicolas Collins and his book Handmade Electronic Music for lots of tips. "This electro track demonstrates a special selection of one-of-a-kind analog synths from my R&D lab. It features the LMS-17 Light Matrix Synthesizer, which is an update on a rare item called dR0NEMATr1X that I offered 8 years ago. The LMS-17 is a two-oscillator CV/Gate synth with a unique 2D array of tone-emitting LEDs, which you blend together with a light sensor stylus.

Also in the mix is a prototype acid bassline machine with a diode bridge filter, and a sweet pair of 100% MIDI-controlled analog synths called ZM-1A. You'll also hear some Grendel Drone Commander, and the Grendel RA-9 Grenadier plays a big role, naturally. (Plus a little help from the Blofeld and Alesis D4 drums).

"Eric Archer of Rare Waves LLC demonstrates an analog computer model of a particle bouncing on a vibrating table. The collision events and velocity data are used to synthesize audio by triggering a voltage controlled percussion module. The side-scrolling oscilloscope display shows the particle position (top trace) and the table position (bottom trace). Many interesting aspects of chaotic dynamics are observed, and we also learn that it sounds really cool.
