altoids modular low pass filter
via this auction
Video posted here
"This is my new altoids modular low pass filter, it's the same filter I use on a lot of my instruments placed in a home all by it's self for use with any instrument you wish. It works well with atari punk consoles, casio sk-1, any circuit bent device or even your guitar provided that you use a distortion pedal or some kind of preamp first in line because the input level is set for electronic intruments and it's a little low for passive guitars. it has 1/4 inch in and out, power led, cut-off control knob and it runs on a single self-contained nine volt battery, (May be included)"
I realized I never had a puffhandy label, so I just created one. See the channel link below for posts dating back to 2008. There are some interesting items from puffhandy. BTW, remember, you can always search on names on the top left of the site.

Pac Man Joystick synthesizer
video by YouTube Uploaded by puffhandy on Apr 25, 2011
"This is (was) one of those old video game reproductions that you plug straight into a TV. I gutted it out after deciding I have enough versions of Pac Man to play with, (super pac man really sucks!) And built my own synth! It's another 40106 based synth using four of the six schmitt triggers for main oscillators and one for the Lfo. It has a light sensor for one of the main voices and a "rate" knob for the Lfo speed. I was able to make it run on the original set up of four AA batteries in the compartment underneath and as you can see the blue knob that I use for wintergreen altoidsalmost matches perfectly. It has a 1/4 inch out to plug into any amp or mixer and i used the menu light for power. the menu button works to change the LFO into a swooping triangle instead of a square wave and the red trigger button makes the sound come out."

burgler alarm keybored analog sequencer synth
YouTube via puffhandy | Feb 25, 2011 | 0 likes, 0 dislikes
"This was formerly a General Electric "zonar burglar alarm". I found it at my local angel view thrift store and loved the fake woodgrain alarm clock/speaker cabinet looking box so I bought it for a whopping $1.99. Incendentally I also bought a very nice vintage tea pot which I needed very badly to go with my new coffee press. Anyhoo, I got it home to my delight it was perfect for this vactrol (opto-iso) thing that I had been thinking about making. After worked for about 14 hours designing and making this this beast and then subsequently I spent about 100 hours playing with it getting different sounds and enjoying it fully trust me. The seven code buttons on top are working keybored keys for a main oscillator sync'd to another oscillator that's pitch is detirmented by a vactrol with the LED side connected to the six on/off/on switches on top for a sequencer LFO effect that is F'N crazy!!! I would have added more LEDs, butit would change the sound and I love the creepy sc-fi with a horror twist that this thing has. email me for the schematic at puffhandy3000@yahoo.com and look for this item on etsy and ebay."

data bass 5
"This s another one of my noise/oscillator/distortion pedals. It has a LDR on to that controls the frequency of the oscillator so when the osc. is in free running mode you can move your foot and make all kinds of talkey sounds. i just called it the data bass because every one of these so far has been built in one of these pc switchboxes."

vactrol bass drone synth
YouTube via puffhandy.
via this auction
"this is a drone synth almost identical to the ikea tupperware synth [vid below] that i made that seemed to be mildly popular. i made a few changes: the oscillator has an overall lower range than before and i added a depth control to the vactrol filter lfo."
"hand made synth that has a deep bass oscillator and two LFOs. it was hand built by the seller in a vintage test equipment box. the analog meter corresponds to the pulse of the output and it has a really bright power light. the circuit inside looks as good as the outside, it runs on a nine volt battery that is held securely by heavy duty harware and the circuit board itself is bolted down . the filter LFO has a depth control and between the two you can make all kinds of droning, talkey-type noises. the output is 1/4 inch so it can easily hook up to your PA, recorder, mixer, or an amplifier."

altoids APC (different version)
YouTube via puffhandy
"this is a custom built atari punk console, i noticed that when i use it i almost always have the one knob at full resistance and i just use the other knob for the stepped tones rather than the boing, boing boing knob i also had a problem fitting three knobs (one for the filter) on the altoids and still making it look good, the other one had three knobs really close together. this time i omitted one pot and in it's place there's a 470k resistor."

turntable wah

"this is a custom, one of a kind, home altered califone record player from the 60's maybe? it's been made into a filter effect that is controled by a light sensor under the platter that spins. you can take that part off and drill more holes, you can add your own disks for different patterns, there are a lot of possibillities for simple mods. i didn't mess around with the ac circuit too much because i don't want to die from electrical shock and i recomend the same for anybody that buys this and doesn't know much about AC. i added a power light and there is also a ring mod oscillator built in that has two modes: high and low. high puts the carrier freq. in the foreground and low just takes it back behind whatever your's running through it. it has in and out so you can use this like a regular effects pedal without even plugging in the amp. the effect takes a nine volt battery that is mounted an the top for easy access. it comes complete with the latch on cover. feel free to ask any questions and please write me for a price quote on international shipping. the synth in the video is an atari punk console"
