Sampling is at the heart of Circuit Rhythm. Record straight into Circuit Rhythm through the audio inputs, and instantly capture sound from records, synths, or even a phone. Designed with a focus on immediate sampling and artistic expression, users can capture creative ideas quickly and stay inspired.

With a lightning-fast sequencer, beatmakers can start turning those samples into killer beats with ease. Whether playing in drums, making basslines or chopping straight from vinyl, music makers can play back samples however they want and listen through stereo out or with headphones. Circuit Rhythm’s eight sample tracks, each with their own 32-step patterns chainable for 256 steps per track, gives creators sample space to find their groove and craft killer tracks, all with an intuitive screenless workflow, common to all Circuit products. Stay quantised or give beats real human feel and go off-grid and record to micro steps. Keep beats interesting with probability and pattern mutate.

Performers can take to the stage with Circuit Rhythm and bring vibrant performance- focused Grid FX to their beats. The Kastle Drum is a special edition of Bastl’s classic mini modular synth focusing on algorithmic industrial glitchy drums. Drum sound synthesis with a unique dynamic acceleration charged envelope makes this rhythm box surprisingly versatile and extremely fun to play. The built-in VC clock generator with a stepped pattern sequencer can either run on its own or it can be synchronized to analog clock, while retaining the triangle LFO for parameter modulation. The Kastle Drum is a mini modular synthesizer with a headphone output, 2 in/out ports for interfacing other gear, and it runs on just 3 AA batteries. In 1992, Novation developed the MM10, an innovative MIDI sequencer that controlled the Yamaha QY10 from a keyboard, revolutionising the way we make music as the first MIDI controller of its kind. With Beat Match, you can pitch your samples up or down to get drum breaks perfectly in time with your session and make your beats flow seamlessly. Two new Beat Match pads in the Sample Mode Menu let you speed up or slow down the selected sample so that it fits seamlessly with your project.

Fixed Length Recording
You can now record samples so that they’ll be perfectly in time with your current project. A new toggle in the Sample Record View lets you choose between a fixed length sample recording of 8, 16, 32, or 64 steps.

Perform with Grid FX Parameters
Take full control of your performances and tweak your sound to perfection with on-board controls for Grid FX. Every Grid FX parameter is now available to control directly with Rhythm’s macro knobs. Performance Mode lets you go wild with temporary changes, while Edit Mode gives you the ability to make permanent changes to the Grid FX slots in your project.

Improved Arrangement: Save Mutes States to Scenes
Muted track states are now stored with Scenes, so you can more easily arrange your track without the need to have any empty patterns in your project.

In this video, @Trovarsi demonstrates how the Circuit Rhythm and the Take 5 can be used together to make a complete musical arrangement and performance. She's sending MIDI from the Circuit Rhythm to the Take 5 to sync their clocks. Trovarsi records a chord progression into the step sequencer, using ties and timed steps to lengthen the progression to 8 bars. The audio from the Take 5 is running into the Circuit Rhythm, allowing end of chain effects to be utilized for all the audio, as well freeing up her hands to perform and experiment with the filters, distortion, and delays on both machines.

Circuit Rhythm's stereo/mono inputs make it easy to sample sounds directly to the groovebox for quick sequencing and sample mangling fun. After sampling, you can quickly get into creative mode and make a sequence out of the samples as well as use some of the Grid Fxs for performance fun!

Energetic jam w/ Novation Circuit Rhythm, Manis Iteritas, Qu-Bit Bloom, Sample Drum, FX Aid XL

"A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

For my previous piece, (https://youtu.be/C_xKtrGXmTE), I created this small Eurorack setup with two sound generators, the Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas and the Erica Synths Sample Drum. I was going to take the rack apart for a new song, but decided to just noodle around on it for a few minutes. That led me to a variety of beautiful sounds on the Manis, which I sampled into the Sample Drum, and then sequenced using a long branching path on the Qu-Bit Bloom.

Since I was using the Bloom for both tracks of the Sample Drum, I had no sequencer left for the Manis itself; as a solution, I used the ALM Busy Circuits Pamela's New Workout to create a quantized square wave LFO that alternated between two notes in the key. Then I could "play" the LFO to create a little variety in the Manis sequence. In other words, Pam's once again proves itself to be the most valuable module in my rack.

Once I had this strange, impromptu sequence, I didn't know how to finish it. On a whim, I connected it to the Novation Circuit Rhythm, since it had a eurorack clock out and I hadn't tried it in a full jam yet. Thanks to the Circuit Rhythm and its lightning fast workflow, I had a finished song in about ten minutes. I had been a bit lukewarm on the Circuit Rhythm at first, thinking it wasn't my favourite groovebox, but once I started to treat it like a drum machine instead of a groovebox, it made a lot more sense. Despite being an entry-level device in terms of price, it's got a lot of tricks and a lot of immediacy to offer. I really enjoyed working with it, and I think it's a great drum solution for people who have a eurorack with little or no percussion in it.

How To Get Longer Samples Into Circuit Tracks & Circuit Rhythm!

"With this little tip, you can decrease the amount of time samples take up on a Novation Circuit Rhythm and Circuit Tracks, effectively increasing the time limitation on both machines. We did it with our recent ‘Starlight’ pack for Circuit Rhythm, which includes pre-pitched (and original, unaltered) samples all ready to go. Now with the help from this video, you can give it a go yourself with any samples you own. You're still limited by how many samples you can store, but it's pretty useful for storing longer samples.
