1966 Vox Percussion King V829 Analog Drum Machine Factory Sealed In Box RARE. Box has a few spots where there’s small tears or openings as shown in photos. Bottom of box is last photo listed. Still has original identification tag on one side of the box.

The story behind this is in the late 90’s my Dad and a friend of his went up to Chicago from Texas to meet with an old music store owner who had lots of his old vintage inventory from the 60’s to the 80’s and was selling everything he had. My Dad was the first outsider to pick through the new old stock.

He came home with 7 of these percussion kings sealed in the box. Over the years he would occasionally sell one. And this is the last one we have.

Controlling a Modded Vox Percussion King with an Arp 1613 Sequencer

"This is a modified Vox Percussion King that now has 1/4" trigger inputs for each drum sound. The triggers can be a pulse anywhere from about 2 volts to 15 volts, and the duty cycle can be anywhere from about 10% to 90%. Wider pulses alter how long the snare and castanet rolls.

This is also showcasing Benny's lovely Prime Time 93, which is an excellent match for Tom's Percussion King."

"Up for auction one very rare and fully functioning Vox Percussion King. Famed to be one of the drum machines Kraftwerk used on Autobahn!! These do not come up often. Great for a collector, but works great too. Drums are triggered using buttons or foot pedals (included, permanently attached), and the drums can be assigned to upbeat/downbeat. This is a very unique setup for a drum box, but heck it was 1967. The available drum sounds are crash cymbal, brush cymbal, bass drum, snare drum, drum roll, bongo I, bongo II, block, clave, and castanet. 1/4" audio output and volume and tone controls."

"V829 Bass Drum core was inspired by Vox Percussion King BD circuit. You can easily get drum sounds similar to those form Kraftwerks Autobahn. The sound is very rich in higher harmonics, as the waveforms are very far form sine.

Features:
- unperfect, asymmetrical waveform,
- included high pass filter to expose mid range frequencies,
- diode limiter circuit - primarily to limit the amplitude of somehow unpredictible T-network in drums core, but can be used for distortion also,
- decay of the bass drum sound can be extended with longer trigger pulse - without retriggering!
- 100% analog, very simple build with standard components values.

Controls:
- PITCH,
- DECAY,
- CUTOFF frequency of the HP filter,
- LEVEL of the output signal,
- LIMITER on/off.

I/O signals:
- TRIGGER - over 1 ms (longer pulse doesn't cause retriggering), 1-10V,
- OUTPUT.

Power supply:
- +/- 12V,
- below 10 mA from each rail."
