Xplorer - Oberheim Matrix-12/Xpander Editor Now Free
Available here
"An editor for the Oberheim Xpander and Matrix-12 synthesizers. That works.
Xplorer is a real-time and bi-directional software editor for the Oberheim Matrix-12 and Xpander synthesizers.
Xplorer is not just another generic synthesizer editor with ranges of slider controls that are all the same and don’t really tell you what you are doing.
Xplorer was developed by an Xpander owner for use by Xpander and Matrix-12 owners. With Xplorer you quickly get an overview of all parameters of a single patch, including an overview of the Modulation Matrix.
With Xplorer you can tweak the sound simultaneously using a computer mouse, a hardware MIDI controller, your DAW software, or directly on your Xpander or Matrix-12. Use the method you prefer to change the sound. Xplorer’s display shows you in real-time which parameter is currently being modified.
“Real-time and bi-directional” means that every change you make in Xplorer is reflected into the synthesizer memory with minimal latency, and vice-versa. Whether you change the sound parameters on the synthesizer, in Xplorer, or with a MIDI controller, the software and the synthesizer will simultaneously update the parameters of the sound, without needing to reload the patch into the synthesizer memory.
The main features of Xplorer are:
Single patch tone file load/save on disk
Extract single patches from an “all data data dump” SysEx file into a given folder
Get all single patches from synthesizer into a given folder.
All data dump request backup and restore (save and restore synthesizer whole memory to/from a sysex file)
Modification of the 226 parameters of a single patch
Real-time MIDI automation for all parameters with freely assignable control changes, even for filter modes (except Modulation Matrix)
Copy/paste page for TRACK, ENV, LFO, and RAMP pages (e.g., you can copy all ENV1 page parameters and paste them to ENV3)
Rename patch, go to patch, store patch, save patch to disk
Real-time update of all parameters when the user tweaks the synthesizer knobs (dual editing can be done without needing to reload the patch and resynchronize the synthesizer and the PC as most editors need to do)
Patch randomizer (generates a new patch from random values)
Auto-sized user interface depending on system’s default font size
…and more to come in the next releases."

Xplorer - the ultimate Oberheim Xpander programmer

flickr By greg_baumont
"The GUI is almost finished. Here’s a screen shot so you can get the main idea. The size is a bit bigger than the first prototype, to be easier to handle on touch screens. As knob colors are a matter of taste, the end user will be able to choose them in the settings. See xplorer.programmer.free.fr/ for details"

Xplorer Editor Now Open Source and Available on Github
video upload by XplorerEditor
Note the video above is latest from from 11 years ago. You can find additiona demos in previuos posts here.
News via the developer on the Xpantastic group:
"The Xplorer editor is now open source and available on Github: https://github.com/xplorer2716/XplorerEditor/ Almost everything is explained in the readme file https://github.com/xplorer2716/XplorerEditor?tab=readme-ov-file#readme, so I won't duplicate the information here.
Sadly I have no time to develop new features since years, you know how real life is. Now anybody can grab the source and continue the journey.
I hope this will help Xpanders/Matrix-12 owners to get the best of their beloved synths. This is my humble contribution to the community :)
IMHO, the best thing to do with the source code would be to migrate the it to a perennial framework such as JUCE, so any users could run it on Windows/Mac/Linux, whatever the underlying architecture is (Intel, ARM, etc...). This is not a simple task, mostly regarding UI.
The latest release is available here: https://github.com/xplorer2716/XplorerEditor/releases/tag/v2024.8.2.1

"Oberheim Matrix-12 (Made in Japan)... repaired and restored.
The Matrix-12 is perfectly stable when turned on since the electronic part of the repair job is complete ( approx. 6 weeks ), the PSU DC output voltages are as good as they can get ( +5.12v for +5v/-5.02v for -5v/ 11.9v for 12v/-11.9 for -12v/ +49.83 for +50v)
110/220v switch at the input ( currently set at 220v ofc ;) )
MIDI tested under Ableton Live, Xplorer and as a master keyboard.
Input for functional expression pedal tested.
Aftertouch is working great, and the 12 individual outputs work as they should
OS version: CPU: 1.1
Voices: 1.4
Work done on it:
PSU Board:
-The connectors solders have all been reflowed
-Replacement of electrolytic capacitors on the power supply (16) (Nichicon 105 ° C)

Xplorer realtime demo (full setup)
YouTube Published on May 12, 2012 by XplorerEditor
"In this demo, you will see that while playing an arpeggiator in FL studio, the parameters of the expander can be changed on the expander itself, with the keyboard controller, on directly on the touch screen. Whatever the input mode is, everything is synchronized.
Explorer is more that an simple editor, it can acts as a real time controller too.
Enjoy the demo !"
