Original SYNTON Fenix 1 - Only 75 Ever Made (1999)
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"Only 75 units were ever made of this very rare synth. It is used and loved by the likes of Martin Gore (Depeche Mode) and Richard D James (Aphex Twin). This synth is a rare sight on auction sites as there are so few and artists tend to hold on to their Fenixes as they are such a special piece of gear.
The original Synton Fenix 1 is designed and built by the original 1973-1989 Synton team as their ultimate modular synthesizer. None of the available modular synthesizer quite fulfilled their needs and wishes so they came back together once again and built their dream machine, and they succeeded! It's a synth like no other, it's tonal range is extreme, changing from rich and lush sounding to mix-cutting fierceness within a few twists of the knobs.
The layout is designed with live performance in mind, knobs have a great feel and are very well spaced out, especially for a synth so versatile equipped as this. Modules are numerous and diverse. The three VCO's all have their own properties and so do the VCF and EG modules. Each have their own distinctive parameters and in-/outputs making them serving multiple roles at once, for instance VCF 3 has a three input audio mixer as input stage, removing the need for a seperate mixer module. VCO's go as low as LFO frequencies and the range of LFO reaches to the audible spectrum. Stackable bananaplugs make patching quick and flexible.
The rear of the Fenix is equiped with 6 3,5mm jackplugs which are routed to bananajacks on the front for easy integration with other modulares or Midi to CV modules. The front has both a 6,3 mm stereo jack output as a two channel audio input for routing external signals through the Fenix.

Synton Fenix 1 - First owner, only 75 made - 1999
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"Yes, an original Synton Fenix 1, very seldom seen for sale as there were only 75 made and people that own one tend to hold on to them as they are truly unique both in sound and design.
Made by the original Synton Team (Marc Paping and Bert Vermeulen) as they wished to create their ultimate compact modular synthesizer, and they succeeded. The sound is unique and versatile, knobs have a great feel and layout is very well thought-out.
This synth is sold by its original owner and has never been gigged. Home studio use only. Visual state is excellent, the potmeters however can use a cleaning as they are a bit crackling. The unit has never been opened nor has any attempt been made to clean the pots as to preserve the original state."

A trick to lengthen the delay on a Synton Fenix
video upload by batchas
"A small trick to lengthen the delay time on the Synton Fenix using a negative voltage from 0V to approx. -1V sent to the Time CV IN.
No matter how well the delay is trimmed or not, I use to do this to get more delay variation.
The delay output has to be sent to a 24db filter to avoid too much high-pitched noise/hiss due to the character of the BBD."

05 23 22 Synton Fenix - Testing further
video upload by batchas
"I’m still testing the Fenix 2d, this time focusing on longer delays, The delay of Fenix 2 is also involved in this patch.
Injecting some minimal negative voltage to the delay time CV input to get longer delays. Then sending the delay into a filter to remove the way too high high-pitched noise present in the slow delay signal.
I use the Wave Multiplier as a clock divider to variate the rhythm.
The Triangle output on VCO2 is actually a sinewave, not a triangle. I use it here for the Bass Drum sound.
No external effects used.
I’m recording each session with the Fenix, that’s why I’m sharing here, for everyone interested in hearing the sound of this synth. So it's not a composition or something elaborated. I’m also recording for the first time via a new audio interface so it's a good occasion for me to see how it translates once on youtube.
I will anyway make more videos showing more precisely how the delay sounds. As well as some tricks with a few functions on the modular."
