Gator

No, not the new Serge Gator of course. This one appears to be a DIY device. You can find more info here.

"The Gator is my implementation of an AM based synthesizer.

4 "suboscillators" with variable wavefom (saw / square) and range (LFO to above audio frequency) amplitude-modulate each other in a sequencial order. They form a chain of AM'd oscillators with a very complex output waveform which can be non periodic, i.e. never repeats itself - based on the interaction of the 4 underlying suboscillators.

The Gator features two of these chains (of 4 suboscillators each). For less chaotic results these chains can be synced in a special manner, still maintaining enough individual variations.

Frequencies of all 8 suboscillators can be controlled by knobs or via light dependent resistors. Special routing switches and knobs allow to dynamically change the way of AM - with an attenuating pot to define the amount of AM.

The signals of both oscillator chains pass through a 5 band equalizer - one independent EQ for each chain. Optionally a passive, coil/transformer based ring modulator can process the signals before sending them to the output socket on the rear."

Remember the Weltmeister Basset? KAADA WRONGROOM as a post up on it with a few more pics including one of the inside. My prior post linked to above also has more images.

Cloverfield Synth Spotting

Anyone spot a synth? I thought I spotted a blue E-Mu Proteus 2000 in there, but the knob placement looks off.

Image sent my way via Davide.

Feel free to spot the other gear.

Access Virus TI Snow and Waldorf Blofeld Round-Up

Celiar Structures has a nice post up comparing the Access Virus TI and the Waldorf Blofeld. You can find the original post in Spanish here or the Googlish version here.

"Personally, my choice is clear. Soy digno poseedor de un Waldorf Microwave XT y de un Indigo y un Indigo 2, me hago una idea del tipo de sonido que cabe esperar de cada uno y también soy consciente de mis necesidades y limitaciones. I am worthy holder of a Waldorf Microwave XT and an Indigo and Indigo 2, I have an idea of the kind of sound you expect from each other and I am also aware of my needs and limitations. Si puedo elegir me quedo con el Blofeld (de hecho se perfila como un claro candidato a próxima compra desde que salió). If I choose I stay with Blofeld (actually emerges as a strong candidate for next purchase since he left). Puestos a pillarme un Snow, me mojo un poco más y voy a por un TI en rack, que me ofrece bastante más por no mucho más de lo que ya cuesta el Snow. Posts to catch a Snow, I mojo a little more and I will go for an IT rack, which gives me a lot more for not much more than it already costs Snow."
