moog prodigy vs mg1 oscillator sync

video upload by dan a

"Can the mg1 make the prodigy's legendary oscillator sync sounds? I think the filter is a little more open and the envelope a little longer on the mg1, hard to match these things exactly."

Church of RadioShack

video upload by Jean Dear

"Jean Dear got a new Synthesizer, a Realistic Concertmate 660, a potent pairing Realistic Concertmate MG-1.

join us as we remember the shack, the best place at the mall.

Yes, the Americans still have RadioShack, but they left Canada decades ago, and it's just not the same as Tandy era Shack."

AE#82 Radio Shack Model 1 Voice Synthesizer Repair And Teardown

Published on Apr 15, 2019 Artifact Electronics

Demo comes in after 20 minutes. Funny how he has a conversation with it.

"Here we have a vintage Model 1 voice synthesizer. It worked for all of 10 minutes after I received it and then promptly started to malfunction. It gets repaired and then shows off it's gift of gab."

Moog Realistic Concertmate MG-1 refurbished/modded

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Some pics of the inside. This one is in via John Ryan, via this auction

"Refurbs:

Cleaned all pots/switches
No notorious black gunk on the board (this was a problem with these)
Replaced every electrolytic capacitor with new ones
Replaced all the faders with brand new ones

Modifications:
Changed it so Oscilator 2 pitch change now goes up/down a little more than an octave
Added 1/4 inch output jack
Added LFO speed switch that gives option for normal/fast/slow LFO
Modified it for better gate response
Increased audio output level
Change Ring Mod input from Osc 1 square only to post-switch/pre-mixer Osc 1

Features:
The MG-1 includes:

Two oscillators with sync & detune, one producing either a Square or Sawtooth waveform, with the other producing either a Pulse or Sawtooth waveform.
One 24db/oct low pass filter/VCF, that can use the envelope generator, has three-position keyboard tracking, and is capable of self oscillation.
Three-part envelope generator, with separately adjustable Attack and Decay or Release, and selectable Sustain on or off. The Envelope Generator can be triggered by either the keyboard, or the LFO.
Oscillator 2 can be tuned independently or hard-synced to Oscillator 1.
Noise generator. (Digital Pseudo-Random Noise)
Ring modulation (called "Bell Tone" this is Amplitude Modulation of VCO 1 and 2).
Polyphonic oscillator. This is a divide-down square wave generator. It is routed to the VCF and the VCA.
LFO that can modulate the oscillators and the filter using a Triangle, square or random Sample and Hold waveform
Voltage controlled amplifier with Keyed, Hold, and Envelope modes (accessed via 3-way switch, misleadingly only labelled "Tone Sources" but also affects Poly signal)
Portamento (called "Glide")
External Control inputs for pre-MIDI CV/Gate."

Circuit-Bent Radioshack Delay Demonstration

Published on Oct 24, 2015 nounandnumber

"Video made to accompany an eBay sale. The following modifications have been made:
- Replaced the line out phono sockets with standard jack sockets.
- Added a switch to allow delay feedback at full saturation (a connection between R20 and R25). This reduces the feedback level when the saturation is set low, however.
- Added a momentary switch to create a "punch in" feedback saturation button (connection between R20 and Jumper 4).
- Added a momentary cut to the inputs. As the mic and line inputs follow two routes, a switch has been added to select between the two.
- Created a touch point to slow the delay speed. This is a connection between C23 and ground and (I think) bleeds the resistor charge. It does come with a high-pitched whine when bled though.
- Replaced the original 4558 op amps with socketed 4580s (after reading about it here: http://zerotronics.com/rsrvb/). Looking at the before and after audio's spectral frequency seems to show a slight reduction in noise around 2kHz, but it is barely noticeable to be honest."

Vintage 80's Radio Shack Electronic Drums W/ Speakers

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Vintage Radio Shack Electronic Drums. (Made by Tandy) + 12V 1200ma Ktec adapter and a pair of plastic sticks.

There are four pads - Snare, Bass, Tom and Phaser.

There are three knobs in the back where you can control the snare decay, the phaser range and the volume.

The sounds sound a bit like a toy version of the Simmons SDS modules.

There are two internal speakers. This thing is pretty loud."

MOOG REALISTIC CONCERTMATE MG-1

via this auction
"Realistic/Moog Concertmate MG-1, model 42-4000, serial #4256 written in marker. SUPER clean and well taken care of. Was owned by one older fella up until this point; it sat in his hobby room since the mid 80's being played occasionally. These are a Moog synth that were made for Realistic/Radio Shack; it's Moog circuits with a few less knobs and switches, etc. Purely Moog sound! Has excellent oscillators, filters, and modulator. It has two voices, and is polyphonic. There are trigger and pitch control jacks to link in with an analog system, and stereo RCA outputs and inputs. Comes with WELL PRESERVED original owner's manual."

myVST Demo: Reality sYNTH

myVST Demo: Reality sYNTH from myVST on Vimeo.

More VST on: myvst.com/

http://sarvst.110mb.com/

Note this is a SynthEdit VST. SynthEdit is a synth engine that allows you to make your own custom synths. You build your synth with the basic building blocks in the program and then create your own custom UI. Think of this as DIY for soft synths. When you see an "emulation" like this based on SynthEdit, realize the sound engine is based on SynthEdit. The UI is just a skin. This is not custom code built from the ground up to emulate the detailed characteristics of the classic synth featured. Companies that do produce custom code emulations include GForce, Way Out Ware, and Arturia. That said, these VSTs are synths, can be edited, and many are free. Both KVR and MyVST.com are great resources to explore the world of soft synths.

If anyone knows more about SynthEdit and it's capabilities, feel free to comment.

via kvr on Reality:

"Reality is an emulation of the Realistic MG-1, a synth that was sold by Radio-shack but was made by the Moog company. Special attention was given to the oscillators, analog instability and overall oddness of the original.

Features:

* 2 analog style oscillators (tone sources) with saw/square waveform, sync and ring modulation (bell).
* Noise generator.
* Tempo sync LFO (modulation) with triangle, square and random waveforms.
* ASR envelope (contour).
* VCA with multiple mode, envelope, key (gate) and continuous.
* 24db filter modulated by the LFO and Envelope.
* Monophonic or polyphonic modes with separate tuning."
