2020/11 - Demosong Rack69

Stereoping

"A reallife studiotest for a prototype i've recently finished, projectname Rack69. The followup video to the breadboarded version from 12/2018 [posted here]

Based on Roland's #TR-606 (plus 808 BD & CB and DR-110 claps) schemes with many mods. 5 ringing noise flavours (#Atmel) for HH & CY, one with a falling pitch envelope retriggered by the CY, demoed around 2:26. The thing is still not fully convincing, the Toms are to clicky and untamed, HH + CY are pushing each other away when played together ...

The tweaking shows much of the bandwidth, some features could not be shown though (e.g. ACC impact or triggerlevel lift in ACC section).

Other instruments used: #TX81Z, #Novation #Summit, #Matrix6 and #OSCar."

Roland LAPC-I Synthesizer Sound Card w/ MCB-1 Midi Connector

Microtec XT 2002 Master + Roland LAPC-I Published on Jul 30, 2016 Ricardo Contieri

This one was spotted and sent in via M Me. Never seen one of these before.

via this auction

"The LAPC combines the Roland MT-32-compatible MIDI synthesizer module Roland CM-32L with an MPU-401 interface on a single plug-in card. The sound is generated using linear arithmetic synthesis (LA), a form of sample-based synthesis supplemented with subtractive synthesis. As with other Roland plug-in cards with an MPU-401 interface, an MCB-1 is required to connect external MIDI devices. The sound is output either via cinch sockets or a jack socket. Compared to more modern sound cards, the LAPC masters the independent generation of sounds, but not the playback of wave files. However, it produced the sound for many retro games! Original packaging with description! Everything as new!"

1967 Rocky Mount Instruments ( RMI) Explorer Combo Organ

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

This is the same one in the video above.

"Extremely rare and unusual combo organ made by Allen Organ’s Rocky Mountain Instrument division in the late 1960s. This is a transistor based keyboard with an oscillator for each key and unique flying hammer system for asynchronous tremolo and delay like effects.

Preset sounds include: Trumpet, Post Horn, Clarinet, Gamba, Flute, Mandolin, Banjo..what really makes this instrument interesting are the effects - Short Sustain, Long Sustain, Strum, String Speech Accenter, Echo & Tremolo.

This Explorer is fully functional, it has been cleaned inside and out. It is in average cosmetic condition for these with some chipping of the painted plywood case. A new case could be constructed if desired but i chose to leave it be due to the extreme rarity of this instrument. All keyboard action felts have been replaced with parts supplied by Allen Organ, it plays and feels incredible compared to the other 2 I’ve serviced over the last decade. I also took the opportunity to recap the power supply with new high quality electrolytic capacitors for safety as the originals were beginning to leak.

Includes the original keyboard cover, a NOS power cord that I managed to hunt down at a surplus supply company and the original capacitors i removed from the supply."

https://open-e-drums.com

"open e-drums" is a completely open source electronic drum. Pads that can be produced with 3D printers, and midi converters are all open source hardware. Arduino code for sensing is also available. You can create your own e-drum from scratch, or add pads to the Roland and YAMAHA kits.

ABOUT
This project started by accident. At the time, I was a product design student who had used Arduino just a little. When I found a drum mania controller at a used store at a bargain price, I was somehow attracted to it and bought it. This is the beginning of everything. I took it apart and played with Arduino. I used a piezo for the first time at that time. I learned the delicate sensing ability of piezo. I realized the greatness of electronic drums such as Roland, Yamaha, and Alesis, which process the signals beautifully. I want to try it myself.

I didn't have any knowledge of programming or electronics. In other words, I have acquired a lot of knowledge through this project. For some people, this project is just a reinvention of the wheel. But it's a very meaningful project for me. As I proceeded with this project, I drew on the knowledge of many predecessors. Many of them keep information open. That's great. So I decided to publish this project as an open source hardware project. I would be happy if this project helps someone create something."

CAVISYNTH ODLPG Basic Tutorial

Published on Dec 28, 2019 Robotopsy Robotopsy

"Some tips for the ODLPG from Cavisynth."

"This module was designed and assembled in Switzerland by hand and with love.

“ODLPG” = Opto – Disto – Low – Pass – Gate

ODLPG is a lowpass gate whose circuit is based on the diversion of an optocoupler usually used to electrically isolate two circuits.

In other words: it is a vactrol that controls the opening of the VCA and the filter at the same time, giving a particular roundness to the sound.

In addition, this circuit architecture extremely simple, adds a little distortion when the CV that comes from your EG is quite strong.

The “curve / drive” knob increases the opening of the filter and the (light) saturation value at the same time.

The panel is matte black (like the Bufflide)

Technical specifications:

Format – Eurorack
Power consumption – 10mA [-12V] // 10mA [+12V]
Module width – 4HP (20mm)
Module depth – 12mm (Skiff super friendly)
Weight – 35g"

New Sidraw by Meng Qi

Published on Dec 26, 2019 Meng Qi

(🎧 🔊 recommended for subbass)

read the informative manual : https://bit.ly/35Y6MwS

"Sidraw is an experimental electronic instrument, based on Ciat-Lonbarde Sidrazzi circuit board, and my interface experiments.

There is a way to design electronic musical interface, which is not to consider sound parameters, but to think from the angle of circuit interference, I call it 'Circuit Expression'.

It can be seen on various experimental electronic musical instruments. From the Crackle Box by Michel Waisvisz back in 1970s, to the new Landscape Stereo Field and Martin Howse Dark Interpreter. UK synth designer Tom Bugs also had been utilizing them in the Weevil series of work. I've commissioned a special version of Chirper from Tom Bugs, which may have pushed the release of Board Chirper model a year later.

This method has a lot to do with circuit instability, touch and feedback. by touching selected circuit nodes, new connections are made, circuits behaviors are affected.

On sound output, it may result in a complex change on a combination of sound parameters (loudness, pitch, timber), and expressive reactions can be found.

I've found expressive behaviors from touching specific parts in Sidrazzi circuit, thus Sidraw is born.

(7 identical voices, only voice 1 marked)
1 - [Stereo Output] 1/4 TRS
2 - [DC Input] 12V Center Positive
3 - [Ground Banana Jack] 4mm
4 - [Utility Patch Bay] 4mm - 2mm Direct + 2mm - 2mm w/Capacitor - Try patching with or without capacitor in between for different behaviors.
5 - [Gesture Outputs] 1 for each L/R channel, output when sound is triggered 6 - [FM Input]
7 - [Square Wave Output]
8 - [Glitch Inputs]
9 - [Direct VCA Input] 4.5v = silence, with pad for easy touching
10 - [Master Pitch Knob]

Never seen one of these before. Some notes on the Synth enginge below.

"The GE300 from MOOER is the flagship multi-effect instrument processor. By combining the well-received Micro Preamp series, TONE CAPTURE instrument matching technology, tri-voice polyphonic synthesizer module, and a wide-range of guitar effects and tools, the GE300 embellishes every single motive for creation from your mind with nuanced details.

The GE300 contains dual-DSP processors delivering the fastidious detailed characterizes of every delay, reverb, modulation or amp model inside. Thanks to the intuitive and simple UI, controls, and connection ports, the GE300 is an all-in-one working station for musicians whether in a live situation, at home, or in the studio.

Synth

With the synth module, your instrument will be transformed into an electronic synthesizer without the need for special pickups or instrument modifications, allowing you to spark your creativity with more possibilities.

As you can see from the diagram, the SYNTH ENGINE has 3 independent voices with their own parameters for waveform, pitch, attack, level, filter and arpeggiator. The signal path from the instrument input is split and routed directly to the front of each synth voice so they remain completely parallel and independent from one another. The thru dry signal can also be mixed parallel to the entire synth effect block, so you can opt for synth only or mix it with your guitar signal..."
