Roland Jupiter-8 w/ JL Cooper Patch Expansion Mod SN 292989

via this auction
Pics of the inside below.
"Had it serviced earlier this year, my excellent tech replaced the battery with a housing that allows for future battery changes without soldering and did some major cleanup, recapping and pot replacements where they was needed. All in all he did about $2000 in repairs. No midi but will include Doepfer din/sync box and cables. Works absolutely beautifully, and in unconfirmed rumors I was told by the person I bought it from in 2012 that it once belonged to John Taylor. Has patch expansion built into it and all original presets in bank b."

The Synclap electronic handclap
video upload by akestromer
"From Electronics & Music Maker September 1983.
Designed by Kenneth McAlpine. Finished by Strömer Mutroniks in 2022.
PCB made by JLCPCB."
Another intersting bit of synth history. You can find only two previous posts mentioning the Synclap here. It appears the design was used by other manufactureres.

JL COOPER 16X20 MIDI PATCH BAY MSB 16/20
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"One used MIDI patchbay with 16 IN and 20 OUT ports in excellent used condition. Comes with documentation. This plugs in to 110 AC so no wallwart. From a home nonsmoking studio. I'm selling because my MIDI setup is much smpler now.
The MSB 16/20 allows any of 16 IN ports to go to 1 or more OUT ports. (The reverse isn't true because there is no MIDI merge.) You can also build patch assignments and then save them to 64 stored programs. Recalling them is just a button push or two. Finally once you have assigned these patch assignments you can also send the MSB program changes from a remote MIDI device.
There is a battery backup and you can see from the pictures that the 3 volt battery is putting out 3.4 volts so its in good shape."

"ROLAND Jupiter 8 12-bit Vintage analog synthesizer in very good playable condition. It sounds INCREDIBLE!
Cosmetically very nice with only a few scratches from normal use. Serial 171xxx
A couple of the pots are a bit scratchy sounding when adjusted. I would recommend a general servicing as it has not been serviced in a while.
Rare JLCooper "PATCH 120" three bank memory expansion installed and it works! USA voltage.
DCB connector was installed after original purchase and is untested
Flight case included. Pelican "top-load" flight case included"

JL Cooper Sound Chest II Digital Drum Module
Published on Apr 29, 2016 zibbybone
"Here's a quick demonstration of the rare JL Cooper Sound Chest II digital drum module. It comes with with its own EPROMs of standard drum kit sounds and is supposed to be able to use EPROMs from Linn, Oberheim and Simmons drum machines and modules. Sounds can be triggered either by MIDI or drum pads via trigger inputs. In this video, I'm using a Roland Fantom X6's rhythm programmer to trigger the SC2's sounds via MIDI. Front panel controls allow you to adjust volume, pitch, tuning via dynamics, filter via dynamics and decay."

Oberheim OB-Xa with Mods
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"Classic analogue 8-voice synthesizer, one of about 400 manufactured during the early 1980’s. This particular specimen has been thru extensive repairs and is offered in full working order. The Kenton MIDI kit is installed offering both MIDI IN and OUT (key information only). The J.L.Cooper Poly MOD has also been installed providing similar sound creation functionality to Sequential’s Prophet synths of the same era. Also included is the 3 * patch memory option giving 96 locations to store user programs. Bank A has been programmed with a good selection of factory sounds with the remaining banks B & C free. This old girl is offered in great condition, plays great and most importantly sounds incredible."

Linndrum with JL Cooper MIDI
YouTube via neospheres | January 11, 2011
"Processed with Lexicon 224 program #5 'Percussion Plate'.
Please note: this is a just drum machine and doesn't come with any Michael Jackson basslines." [watch the full video]

"The machine is fitted with ZIF sockets for easy swapping of EPROMs (I did own a Prommer at one point) and evidently I have swapped some chips around as the 'clap' is on the 'sidestick' and 'sidestick' is on the 'cowbell'. An SCI Drumtraks kick sample is on the 'Clap'. I obviously had the need to have two kick samples rather than the cowbell - which I didn't feel the need for. I think I still have the Cowbell EPROM lying around (and maybe some other programmed chips) but I can't guarantee that I will find them. Please note that, as shown in the video, I was unable to get the Hi Conga to work. I am fairly sure this is down to the slider in the mixer section which may have come away from the track - it should be an easy fix. This machine is retro-fitted with the JL Cooper Midi interface. I haven't tested the MIDI functionality but I assume it to be working."

LINN Electronics LINNDRUM with JL Cooper MIDI in Original Box
via this auction
"Linn Electronics Linndrum produced in 1982. This unit works 100% and is in very good shape. It has the very useful JL Cooper MIDI kit installed. It's very useful to sync the machine or to use it as a midi sound module. It comes in its original box"

JLCOOPER/OBERFACE midi inputs and outputs for DSX
Not the best shots, but you don't see these often.
"This unit works in tandem with the Oberheim DSX providing inputs and outputs. Its task is to allow theDSX to take control of its memory, and to have the numbers representing voice notes, keyboard notes, program # etc. be in exactly the same places and in the same form that the DSX is expecting to find them At the same time, it has to handle Midi information input and output."

JL Cooper CS-10 MIDI Controller

"Here’s why you want this:
* It’s metal. This is no toy, and it feel so much nicer to use than a lot of the plastic stuff on the market.
* It has MIDI - In, Out, and Thru ports. Not the weird modem-like connector that some of the CS-10’s have. It also sends basic control information that software like Ableton Live understands perfectly.
* It has a ton of controls. Eight (8) 100mm non-motorized faders, thirty (30) buttons, six (6) pots, and one jog wheel.
* No logos. The CS-10 has been carefully and tastefully repainted to a flat-black color. The front fake-leather palm rest has also been removed, to conserve desk space, and because it wasn't aging well.
* Comes with the power supply, PDF manual, a MIDI cable, and has been fully tested. A lot of used CS-10’s on the market haven’t been tested, or you need to buy a power supply to use them. This is good to go out of the box.
* You can program it. Or, better stated, there's a lot of software out there to modify what the CS-10 outputs. This (PC-only) software will allow you to map the input to emulate a Mackie Control Device: http://shoshin.110mb.com/genmce/ - I tried this with Ableton Live, and it worked perfectly. You can also use software like MIDIOX (or, if you're really adventurous, something like PureData or Max/MSP) to send SYSEX back to the CS-10 to turn the LED's on and off, etc (as a note, the LED's do not turn on and off by default. I believe that when plugged into Cubase or ProTools, those DAW's send the proper SYSEX back to the CS-10 to do that, but I don't have those to test it. The LEDs do work, however)."

Some sort of drum brain?

Update via the thread:
"That's a JL Cooper Sound Chest II. I bought one at a GC tent sale back in the early 90's. Supposedly you could load it with EPROMS from Obie DX, LinnDrum & Simmons. I had a set of DX chips I put in mine. I was hoping to find a dead LinnDrum and rob the chips, but gave up on it. I sold mine on the 'bay around '01 or '02 along with a bunch of other stuff that was not getting used. I think I kept the instructions. I'll have to look in my 'file.'"
