Anachronistic Ritualism (Eurorack Polygogo, XPO, Harmonic Oscillator)

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"These are some of my favorite oscillator modules at the moment, as I feel you can get very interesting sounds out of them: the Harmonic Oscillator from Verbos Electronics, The XPO from Make Noise and the Polygogo from E-RM.

You can hear the first synth voice at around 30 seconds, I added some metallic sounds and voices in my DAW for this moody piece to begin with.

The big challenge for me is to not get lost in all the sonic possibilities that the Eurorack System offers, but to create something interesting, but still 'musical' if you know what I mean.

I originally started with the bassy sound that you can hear around 1.20 minutes and immediately had to think of the album 'A Saucerful Of Secrets' by Pink Floyd, or more specifically of the track 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun'. What a fantastic album, don't you think?

Thanks for listening!"

SUPERBOOTH 2024: Verbos Electronics - Sawtooth Stack Standalone Module

video upload by sonicstate

"At Superbooth 2024 we met up with Tom from Verbos Electronics, who introduced us to Sawtooth Stack, their first standalone instrument. It Has 2 AD envelopes which can be cycled, and 5 oscillators which can be detuned and spread across the stereo field, 2 on the left, 2 on the right and one in the middle.

Sawtooth Stack's fundamental pitch can be controlled via MIDI, as can every control on the panel, and cycling the envelopes for modulations can produce some interesting morphing tones.

Price and availability TBC"

Spectral Processors - 296t vs Sputnik vs Fumana vs Bark Filter

video upload by Stazma

"This is a BIG one. I will try to compare the four main big Buchla inspired "Spectral Processor" modules:
The Buchla & Tiptop 296t, the Sputnik Spectral Processor, the Verbos Electronics Bark Filter and the Frap Tools Fumana.
You will see they all sound and behave quite diferently and this is why I guess this video might of some interest.

Have fun!"

"I have been noodling away on the guitar for quite a while now. Looking for new inspiration and musical insights. Doing this I sort of neglecting the synthesizers. I barely touched them since our last Beyond Berlin concert on E-Day in April 2023. In Januari I bought the Behringer Victor module and came up with this music. Last Thursday I switched the synths on again and the music was still in the Cirklon. I added some bits and recorded the music. What you see is the second take because in the first take the Minimoog solo's were not good enough.
It starts with a sequence on the Behringer Victor. Then the bass from the modular comes in. After that sequences from the Rob Hordijk OSC HRM, Oberheim SEM, Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, Korg Opsix and DSI Mopho are added. Strings are from the Waldorf Q Keyboard and the solo's from the Moog Minimoog."

Arturia Microfreak | An excellent modular companion

video upload by Cinematic Laboraty

"It's not easy to find a touch capacitive keyboard for Eurorack. I tried the Verbos and ultimately ended up with the Buchla Corvette 218e which also has a strong nostalgic value. I completely overlooked the Microfreak even though @mylarmelodies made an excellent video about it while recreating an Easel. I've been familiar with the Microfreak since its release, but didn't pay much attention to it when I found out it's a bit like a paraphonic Plaits. Then Noise Engineering contributed to it with three eclectic voices, also paraphonic. And recently they added samples and granular synthesis to the endless list of features. So the Freak isn't really 'micro' anymore. It's stellar.

I got myself a Freak because I wanted to find out if these keys were on par with the Buchla. The good news (for me), is that the Buchla is still a few decades ahead, because Arturia was clearly inspired by the older model with elevated 'black' keys. So objectively, the Freak doesn't 'ultraglide'. The good news (for all of us) is that the difference is marginal, considering that the Freak comes with a really, really nice synth. Bottomline: the Freak is a great addition to any modular setup. But it doesn't end there. If you happen to like granular synthesis and looping, it's an excellent source for grains, loops, stacks and sample mangling and when you recorded something cool, you can play it with pressure, gates and pitch CV.

I'll keep the Freak close to my Instruo case because it lacks a proper sequencer. Here, the Freak ticks all the boxes that were left open."

10 years of Verbos Electronics - Workshop at SchneidersLaden

10 years of Verbos Electronics - Mark Verbos - Workshop at SchneidersLaden
10 years of Verbos Electronics - Mark Smith - Workshop at SchneidersLaden
10 years of Verbos Electronics - Tom Holroyd - Workshop at SchneidersLaden

"Celebrating '10 years of Verbos Electronics' workshop at SchneidersLaden - what an evening! We have rarely had so many guests and such an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. Thank you!

It started with the three presentations by Mark, Tom and Mark on how to play live with a Verbos modular system and went on well into the evening with lots of nice conversations and exchanging of memories. What was different from ten years ago? The workshop took place on the rooms of SchneidersLaden, there was a kids' play area and some heads were slightly grayer than back a decade ago. So, quite some things changed, but it was wonderful to see that a new generation is growing up that shares the same passion."

Gliss Patch Notes: Record mode synced to a clock

video upload by Bela Platform

"Patch Notes is a new series of instructional videos designed to help you get the most out of Gliss and provide a source of ideas for fueling your own experiments and discoveries. Together we will explore possibilities opened by placing Gliss in the midst of a larger patch rather than directly to its final destination, by mixing signals to combine touch control with traditional modulation sources and connecting to unlikely destinations.

In this first installment, we dive into one of Gliss’s most important modes: Record synced to a clock. See"

Chasing Ghosts

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Hi All,
It's been a while since my last video and it will take a while to get back into the routine. I came down with a flu from hell and I've been out of order for two weeks. It's the first time since 2020 and I can't remember flu hitting this hard, not being able to sleep, eat, listen to modulars or watching TV. I tested negative on Covid-19, but maybe it's Covid-24. Who knows.

On January 30 I posted the 'Where's the Easel' video. I made a decision to go for Eurorack in 2020 and 'never' wander Buchla's official banana path. So while it's easier to just buy an Easel, spending $6K in a different universe is just not an option. So the Quest continues.

This is a video full of dead ends. I was pretty convinced I could approximate the Buchla with Shuttle System and the Sensel Morph controller but only got one aspect of it. Using the Beatstep Pro only confirmed how important that Electronic Music Box touch keyboard is.

It confirmed how close the Shuttle is to the Easel Command, and yet so far away. I thought the Verbos Touch Keyboard would be a solution, but it was not. I found a used one, but it felt unresponsive and didn't track pitch. Fortunately I managed to calibrate it, but my fingers and touchplates are not compatible.

Again, tunnel vision made me completely overlook the Buchla LEM 218E V3 touch keyboard - which now comes with Eurorack outputs on the side. So I took a leap of faith and ordered the 218E. Hopefully the Quest comes to an end just before March, hoping the Easel is more than a Eurorack ghost. Speaking of Ghosts, I also tried to fit the Ghost delay in the Shuttle, another dead end, which are actually u-turns. This was a tough video to make for many reasons and it felt like chasing ghosts. It's all over the place. But I think I am getting somewhere now, and learned a lot."

"Non proprio la prima volta per @VerbosElectronicsGmbH al @SOUNDMIT, infatti li abbiamo ospitati durante la prima delle due edizioni virtuali in periodo pandemia (vi metto il link nel video) ma prima volta presenti fisicamente a Torino per presentare il nuovo modulo 'Real World Interface' che permette il collegamento con strumenti e sorgenti sonore esistenti fuori dal nostro sistema Eurorack.

Not exactly the first time for @VerbosElectronicsGmbH at @SOUNDMIT. In fact, we hosted them during the first of the two virtual editions during the pandemic period (I'll include the link in the video), but it's their first time physically present in Turin to introduce the new 'Real World Interface' module that allows connection with existing instruments and sound sources outside our Eurorack system.
