via this auction

Never seen one of these before. Some notes on the Synth enginge below.

"The GE300 from MOOER is the flagship multi-effect instrument processor. By combining the well-received Micro Preamp series, TONE CAPTURE instrument matching technology, tri-voice polyphonic synthesizer module, and a wide-range of guitar effects and tools, the GE300 embellishes every single motive for creation from your mind with nuanced details.

The GE300 contains dual-DSP processors delivering the fastidious detailed characterizes of every delay, reverb, modulation or amp model inside. Thanks to the intuitive and simple UI, controls, and connection ports, the GE300 is an all-in-one working station for musicians whether in a live situation, at home, or in the studio.

Synth

With the synth module, your instrument will be transformed into an electronic synthesizer without the need for special pickups or instrument modifications, allowing you to spark your creativity with more possibilities.

As you can see from the diagram, the SYNTH ENGINE has 3 independent voices with their own parameters for waveform, pitch, attack, level, filter and arpeggiator. The signal path from the instrument input is split and routed directly to the front of each synth voice so they remain completely parallel and independent from one another. The thru dry signal can also be mixed parallel to the entire synth effect block, so you can opt for synth only or mix it with your guitar signal..."

"30 years later and here we are... glorious sound makes that possible. All honor and praise to the geniuses at R. A. Moog Co, especially Bill Hemsath, and Mr. Moog himself, a person with whom I (MSR) shared a lunch space at NAMM in the 1990s—it's something folks.

Some internal patching on "Registered Pulses", "Voo R U", and "1st Midimini V30", not that I can remember what went where. No FX however, (with the exception of a wet channel on Rach of Ages 2), no compression, limiting, only a touch of some spot normalizing on several tracks. Essentially raw and un-pestered, synth and factory direct honesty—still such a lonely word.

Oh yes, and I created a few stereo tracks from multiple takes; who could resist? I'm sure you can spot them.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas,
Marc St Regis 12/24/19"

MIDIMINI V30 - $2999

"Many can recall dialing up Midim-g/Midimini patches that fit a song so perfectly that they inspired even greater creativity; shapely, sometimes sinuous sounds whose essense called out to you; emotive sounds you never wanted to change; sounds you lovingly tracked, notated and revered; sounds as vital as the lyrics or lead vocal—that solid, insistent, articulate bounce, bravado, and twangy bang. Was there another sensible, MIDI-driven rackmount choice for immaculate synth-bass and lead lines?

November 2019 brings the SE Midimini V30 to the table, and nothing has been lost in the translation of this end-of-decade Analog essential. A raft of brand-new hardware features, extensive software sweetening, and modular connections open the window even wider to an already stunning Analog view.

It's highlight time again:

Through-hole build: Every. Single. PC board.
Classic 4-pole, 24 db/oct, voltage-controlled Lowpass Ladder Filter, with voltage-controlled Cutoff.
Semi-Modular Mini: Standard issue CV & Gate, and # OutsToOuts-friendly patchability of voltage, amplifier, and key tonal mastering tap points (1/8" Eurorack Connections).
Classic Midimini Cross Mod and Boomstar-perfected Ring Mod.
Amp Drive: Boomstar Modular AMP saturation and overdrive imported into 'V30 world.
Output Feedback loop and gain control—the old Low Output to External Input hack—hardwired and fine-tuned—interacts expressivley with Amp Drive.
MIDI-syncable, AFM*-capable, multi-waveform LFO, routable to VCF and VCO.
LFO Out patch point for deep modulation or oscillation creation.
LFO Gate (LFO pulse of VCF/VCA) from the SE-02.
OSC 1 Triangle Wave to amplifier (bypasses VCF) for high Resonance setting/low frequency compensation.
Sweepable OSC Oscillator 2 to Oscillator 1 Sync.
Handy Boomstar Drone feature.
Envelope 2 Master Mode: ENV2 (VCA) assumes control of Filter (VCF) Envelope.
Expressive Linear and Exponential Glide.
Front Panel-mounted External Audio input with level control.
Independent Release control of Filter and Amplifier.

New Mini Roland System 700 LAB Eurorack Clone by OMNiSYN

[000] OMNiSYN System 700 LAB Demo Published on Dec 21, 2019

"Clone of the Roland System 700 LAB"

This one was sent in by John L Rice.

OMNiSYN is a new maker as well. No additional info at the moment. It does look appear to be 3U eurorack of course.

You can spot three 702F oscillator modules on the far left for each row. A 703M Filter on the top and bottom rows, 705B dual ADSR envelop in the middle row, a Mixer in the middle row, and a few other modules.

Update via OMNiSYN in the comments:

"All modules (bar the 717 sequencer) are prototyped - prices would be comparable to to other manufacturers, but these are all dependent on availability of parts (some are custom and long lead time). Some videos on the full Roland System 700 clone are coming soon - stay tuned."

"All modules are 3U/12HP or 3U/18HP, case is 9U/60HP with 1A PSU and expansion port built in. All signals are brought to the front panels as was true in some of the original modules. Some modules have been expanded as in the mixer is now 2x 3 input and most modules use NOS original components. Hope this helps."

The original Roland System 700 Lab came with the following so this seems to match: 3 VCOs, 1 VCF, 1 VCA, 1 LFO, 2 ADSR EG, Noise (white & pink), Ring Mod, S/H and a Mixer.

Below is an image of one from the RL Music website. Apparently the signal path was normalized so you could play it minus cables like an ARP 2600. I'm guessing the OMNiSYN eurorack version consists of independent modules and is not normalized.

"This is a very powerful 3 oscillator normalised system with 1/4 inch jack In/Out for expanded sound creation possibilities and is based entirely on the system architecture of the full System 700."

Playing live with nuclear instruments and unknown synths

Published on Dec 16, 2019 HAINBACH

Some new gear in the second half of the video includes the Herbs and Stones Liquid Foam and the Neon Egg Planetarium (demos below).

"In which I play an improvised live show with a setup that is new and barely rehearsed.

Usually when I play live, I like to work with the setup I have had for the past three years. In fact, the reason for this channel was that I needed an audience to get better at improvising on my instruments, the camera became an important tool to get good it. But after five weeks of doing art projects, theatre soundtracks and live performances I was burned out. So I decided to play myself a little bit - I choose a completely new setup. Only the Plumbutter was with me on stage before, the rest, including FX and mixer, are studio pieces. Some, such as the Boxcar I had never used in that function before, and one synth had just arrived that day. I did not even know if I could safely travel with the nuclear instrumentation modular rack, without it breaking. The excitement of trying something new helped break the block I felt and I had a good time at the show.

"The Peeps Music Box is a battery powered digital handmade synthesizer.

It’s a micro version of the «Buchla Music Easel», one of the best synthesizer ever made, designed by Don Buchla in 1972.

Some features were deleted but others were added. It is not a modular synthesizer like the original Buchla, but all the switch buttons act like pre-patched possibilities that I felt like the most interesting patchs to use with the original Music Easel.

Next-Generation GK Synthesizer and Instrument Modeling
Processor for Guitar and Bass

Los Angeles, California, December 5, 2019 — BOSS introduces the SY-1000 Guitar Synthesizer, an advanced synthesizer and modeling processor for guitar and bass. Opening a bold new chapter in BOSS guitar synth innovation, the SY-1000 features a newly developed Dynamic Synth and refreshed versions of historic BOSS/Roland instrument modeling and synthesizer technologies. Backed by a cutting-edge sound engine, high-speed DSP, and evolved GK technology, the SY-1000 delivers the finest performance and most organic playing experience yet.

BOSS and its parent company, Roland, have been at the forefront of guitar synthesizer development since 1977, when the landmark GR-500 first introduced guitar synthesis to the world. The SY-1000 is the most powerful guitar/bass synth processor to date, fusing decades of R&D with the latest software and hardware advancements. Leveraging custom DSP and GK independent string processing, the SY-1000 brings numerous musical advantages to players, including ultra-articulate tracking, lightning-fast response, instantly variable tuning, sound panning/layering, and more.

SY-1000 users can build patches with three simultaneous instruments—each with a number of distinctive types to choose from—and combine them for an endless range of sounds. Fed by the processor’s 13-pin GK input, every instrument offers an extensive set of parameters for tone shaping, mixing, and tuning. A normal ¼-inch input is also available to blend in regular guitar/bass pickup sounds.

Deep and expressive, the SY-1000’s Dynamic Synth takes guitar synthesis to a new level, allowing players to craft sounds never before possible. Ten oscillator waveforms are available, plus six filter types, amplifier control, two LFOs, and two 16-part step sequencers for automating pitch, filter, and amplitude parameters. Optimum performance is realized with the GK input, but it’s also possible to play the Dynamic Synth via the normal guitar/bass input.

Complementing the Dynamic Synth are two additional synth instruments. OSC Synth is an analog-style engine with numerous filter options and full ADSR control. Also included is a faithful sonic recreation of the GR-300, Roland’s legendary analog guitar synth from the early 1980s.

The SY-1000’s instrument models include a large selection of classic electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, each with independent tuning, EQ, virtual amp settings, and more. There’s also a unique VIO Guitar instrument that emulates bowed tones, and a Poly FX instrument that produces rich voices with high-res definition.

The SY-1000’s effects and user interface are derived from BOSS’s flagship GT-1000 multi-effects. A large LCD and hands-on knobs enable free-flowing sound creation, and users can customize eight onboard footswitches to operate nearly any function. Deep external control is supported as well. Main and Sub stereo outputs include independent EQs, and there's also an effects loop for integrating external gear.

Dedicated power-up modes optimize the SY-1000 for guitar or bass operation. For full access to all synth and modeling features, a Roland GK-compatible pickup and 13-pin cable are required. User-installable options include the GK-3 Divided Pickup, which is compatible with most standard electric guitars, and the GK-3B Divided Bass Pickup, which works with most 4-, 5-, and 6-string electric basses. GK Ready instruments are also available from many different manufacturers.

Availability & Pricing
The BOSS SY-1000 will be available in January 2020, for $999.99."

Introducing Orba by Artiphon – An instrument designed for your hands

Published on Nov 25, 2019 Artiphon

Artiphon brought us the INSTRUMENT 1. The Orba is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

"Hold out your hands and meet Orba, a new kind of musical instrument. It’s a tiny synth, looper, and MIDI controller that lets anyone make music immediately. Orba’s minimalist design resembles a cross between a gaming controller and a half a grapefruit, and its feather-touch sensitivity translates gestures from your fingers and hands directly into sound. Orba introduces a new and fun way to make music anywhere, even if you’ve never played an instrument before."

Onboard synth:

"We designed an innovative new synthesizer engine for Orba, with a broad range of synth sounds that work seamlessly with various playing gestures. Orba’s embedded looper means you can layer multiple parts without ever looking at a screen. The built-in speaker lets you make sound immediately (and it’s loud enough for a bit of karaoke). Plug in headphones to play alone or an external amp to play it loud.

The Orba companion app lets you explore even more. Available for Mac, iOS, Windows, and Android, the Orba app will let you access more sounds, presets, loops, and settings. The app is also where you’ll be able to save and edit your loops and songs. And of course, you can share your songs to social media and export to your favorite music-making software to keep building your beats."

No word on how programable the synth engine will be. That will of course determine how much the Orba is more of a controller and performance device vs. full fledged programmable synth.

Features
Eight capacitive-sensing pads for feather-touch control

Accelerometer and gyroscope capture a range of gestures

Center menu button accesses four presets, the looper, and other functions

Onboard synthesizer and built-in speaker offer an immediate playing experience

Connect to the cross-platform Orba app for more sounds, songs, and settings

Use MIDI over Bluetooth or USB to plug into any of your favorite music apps

Use the ⅛” (3.5mm) output to listen on headphones, speakers, and amps

Multicolor LEDs respond to the way you play

Embedded haptics offer vibration feedback

Behringer Introduces the POLY D - 4 Voice Paraphonic Polyphonic Minimoog Keyboard Synthesizer

Published on Nov 24, 2019 BEHRINGER

Apparently Behringer is on Amazon now.

Update2: Playlist with three user videos (you can skip around on the top right or bottom left):

Sonic Lab: Behringer Poly D! - sonicstate
Behringer Poly D -solo sonidos / only sounds - FutureMusic.es
Behringer POLY D - MrFirechild
Behringer POLY D: Review, Tutorial and Patch Ideas // Auto-damp explained - loopop

Update: post updated with larger pics. Click them for the detail.

Note the POLY D is more like a Mono/Poly in how you stack/route the oscillators. There are 4 VCOs, so you can set them to trigger one at a time for 4 voice paraphonic polyphony. Paraphonic in that they share the same filter, envelopes, etc. You can't have a fully separate voice with independent filters, envelopes, etc like on a truly polyphonic synth. This is not a Memormoog or Moon One. That said, it is a step ahead of a standard Minimoog - 4 vs 3 VCOs with the ability to play paraphonically. If it's light enough, you might even be able to kick back on a couch with it. An original Minimoog on the lap would get heavy fast.

Side note: Apparently Behringer is on Amazon now.

Details from Behringer:

"Analog 4-Voice Polyphonic Synthesizer with 37 Full-Size Keys, 4 VCOs, Classic Ladder Filter, LFO, BBD Stereo Chorus, Distortion, 32-Step Sequencer and Arpeggiator"

The 1970s spawned the first truly portable analog synthesizer, and while it was quickly adopted by lots of renowned musical artists including Jan Hammer, Chick Corea, Rick Wakeman, Jean-Michel Jarre, Isao Tomita and Keith Emerson to name a few, it was somewhat temperamental and very expensive. An ultra-affordable homage to that iconic synthesizer, with all the features of the original and then some, the Behringer POLY D lets you conjure up virtually any monophonic or polyphonic sound imaginable with incredible finesse and ease. The pure analog signal path is based on authentic VCO, VCF, VCA and ladder filter designs in conjunction with a dedicated and fully analog triangle/square wave LFO. Owning a POLY D is like having your own personal time machine, enabling you to freely embrace the past – or shape the future!

First Pics and Details on Behringer's EDP WASP Deluxe Desktop Synth Priced at 298.99

This one was spotted and sent in via Bill of Ampersand Posture.

Details:

"A Stinging Cult Classic Reborn

A faithful reproduction of the cult classic digital-analog hybrid synth, the Behringer Wasp monophonic synth has the bone-rattling lows and searing highs that made its predecessor infamous in esoteric synth circles. True to its name, the Wasp excels at droney, buzzy synth sounds, emanating from its two digital oscillators, distinctive analog VCF with highpass, lowpass, notch, and bandpass modes, noise generator, and a hive full of modulation capabilities. The Wasp can generate three variable oscillator shapes —pulse, ramp, and enhanced mode, with pulse width modulation on OSC1. OSC2 swaps out pulse width control for pitch, so you can dial up warbly, detuned chorus effects, or tune the oscillator to intervals for pseudo-polyphony. A unique LFO with six selectable waveforms and pitch and frequency mod controls and the Wasp's two analog envelope generators open up vast signal manipulation possibilities. Synthesists at Sweetwater are psyched to add this rarified legend to their synth arsenals. Gnarly, aggressive, and completely idiosyncratic, Behringer's Wasp is all the buzz!

Eurorack and Poly Chain Compatible
The Behringer Wasp can be used as a desktop module or integrated into a Eurorack system, with an 80HP footprint, and integrated it into your MIDI setup via 5-pin DIN or USB-MIDI. Featuring Behringer's Poly Chain capability, the Wasp can be combined with multiple synthesizers for up to 16 voice polyphony. It also includes an external in, so you can shape and mangle guitars, vocals, drum machines, and more with the Wasp's inimitable filters and modulators.

Lilla uses 44.1kHz 16bit mono .RAW (header-less) audio files, imported from micro-SD card. Lilla can store up to 100 Sounds; a Sound is described by these elements:

an audio file
interval to be played (first sample A - last sample B): from 100 samples to full length
play mode: A -> B, B -> A, loop A -> B, loop A <-> B, loop B -> A, loop B <-> A
fine tune
volume
ADSR parameters
Attack ramp: fast, slow
Audio file is played from flash memory until the interval to be played contains more than 675 samples. Below 675 samples, audio is played from RAM: in this case, an automatic pitch-correction keeps the sound in tune with the standard tuning (middle C: 261.6Hz).

Lilla can store up to 30 setups called Sessions; a Session is a group of up to 8 Instruments; each Instrument is defined by:

a Sound
keyboard span (first key - last key)
keys mode: momentary, hold
root-key
volume
In a Session, all 8 Instruments can also be layered on each other.

New MFB-SYNTH PRO

"The SYNTH PRO is the advanced, polyphonic version of the SYNTH II.

All oscillators are discretely structured. So here are for the sound base so no highly integrated chips are used, but proven components that even in Synthesizer 40 years ago produced a great analog sound. If required, the VCOs can be switched over to the particularly stable DCO mode, for example if unfavorable environmental conditions have to be overcome. The provided waveforms can be superimposed and additionally modulated by different sources. VCO2 and VCO3 can be synchronized to the first oscillator. For this purpose, VCO1 and VCO2 can be frequency-modulated with VCO3. In the SYNTH PRO, two filters are used per voice, which can be connected in series or in parallel. The low-pass filter works as a cascade filter with a slope of 24 dB / oct. and uses the popular SSI 2144. Multifilter and VCAs are based on OTA's. Both filters and the VCA's can be modulated by different sources. The LFOs and envelopes are calculated per voice by fast processor. There is also a dedicated chip for the effects section. This can produce not only reverb and echo but also chorus and flanging effects. The built-in sequencer works polyphonically and is available in addition to a monophonic arpeggiator.
