12/5/23 (300, 500, 1000 lullaby) Northeast Electronics Corp. TTS-4ANH & 4XDV + Peavey DDL-3
video upload by Cfpp0
"A lullaby, a duet! Three selectable frequencies (300cps, 500cps, 1000kc) on the NEC TTS-4ANH are alternated with the send freq switch, and fed into the Peavey DDL-3 digital delay pedal to overlap and sustain. No reverb is used so that the odd character of the NEC TTS-4ANH can be heard, but the highs and mids are boosted on the little Mackie Mix8 to bring out the distortion, harmonics, and switch clicks. Shot in the last few minutes of daylight."

11/4/23 (test) SAE 2800 Solid State Stereo Parametric Equalizer + Hewlett-Packard 3310A (x2)
video upload by Cfpp0
"The 'melody' is range 1: Sine, Triangle, Sine, Square. The “beat” is range .1: Sine.
Considering that the SAE 2800 was intended for home hi-fi stereo use, it works out great as a musical filter. We’re a bit on the fence about whether we should sell it or not. If you want it, write to Christopher’s Boutique 489 on Reverb."

10/28/23 (beating) Pasco Scientific 9301 (x2) + Zerosum Inertia Cenotaph + Mackie Mix12FX
video upload by Cfpp0
"Zerosum Inertia Cenotaph shows out at 2:07, 2:22, and 3:38. The right Pasco Scientific 9301 modulates the left 9301 throughout. Both 9301s need a bath."

Spinning the dial on Clough Brengle oscillator, a late 1930s analog device
video uploads by Brian Comnes
Update:
"It's all analog for sure , from 1938!! Don Buchla was 1 year old at the time. Bob Moog was 4 !! Daphne Oram was only 13. It uses two heterodyned tubes oscillating around 80k hz and uses a monster variable capacitor to generate the differential frequency much akin to that used in a tube based theremin, and then to an internal tube amplifier
Best part of this device is it sweeps continuously from 40k hz to about 9k. Most bench oscillators have stepped narrower ranges Here's some vids. "
via this auction
"Used Clough Brengle Beat Frequency Oscillator Model 79C
Estimated from 1937 in good working order. see videos
This an all tube analog oscillator capable of sweeping form 30 hz to 9k hz CONTINUOUSLY .
All orIginal to my knowledge. MassiVe transformers, this thing weighs in at 20 pounds (which will make shipping a bit pricey) Has new grounded power cord
Includes one connector cable."

Hainbach Gave Away His Test Equipment - Exploring The New Tape and Test Equipment Studio in Porto
video upload by HAINBACH
"I gave away my test equipment (two palettes of it at least) and I am happy about that! Because it became the foundation of a new tape and test equipment studio that you too can record in now. It is situated at the non-profit association Sonoscopia in Porto, Portugal. Sonoscopia is a unique place run by musicians and sound artists. Every nook and cranny is filled with objects made by artists who did residencies there. It is truly one of the nicest places in experimental music I have found across the world.
I gave a workshop on how to use this equipment for music, and here is the short version of that. If you are interested in the full process and more knowledge, the unedited version is on my Patreon.

8/6/23 Roland SBX-80 plays its metronome and pings General Radio 1564-A + Univox ProVerb
video upload by Cfpp0
"The Roland SBX-80 does a lot—SMPTE, for one thing, but it gives you clock on TS, clock on DinSync, clock on MIDI, manual tap tempo, and so on. It was the master clock around here until Pamela’s New Workout took over. The SBX-80 looks like a 909, and has a cool numerical grid of buttons like the old keyboards (back when mice had wires). Here the SBX-80 is playing its metronome at a lugubrious 20bpm. SBX-80 metronome audio out to Univox ProVerb for some spring reverb. SBX-80 time base out to audio input on General Radio 1564-A Sound & Vibration Analyzer, with band level at 70 3mV, then 60 1mV, then 50 .3mV, with bandwidth at 1/10th octave, and frequency at 3.5, then 4, and back."

Overpriced Pair of 1970s Urei 565T "Little Dipper" Filter Set
via this auction
"This listing is for a pair of gold-trimmed Urei 565T Filter Sets in a black Tolex case (or without). These look incredible. The seller we bought them from wrote:
The 565T offers precise notching and peaking of very narrow frequency bands. The major application is to remove unwanted noises from recordings. Used extensively by the movie industry. It can also be used to create flanging, phasing and other unusual effects.
The 565T has an output transformer that can send a balanced signal to a 600 ohm load. The input level can be switched up 20db and the input impedence can be set between 600 and 10K ohms. This item came out of temperature controled editing suite. The suite had preventative maintenance done quarterly.
Having these will make you feel better in your studio, and feel better about your studio.
You don’t need to worry about the rear connections. You don’t need to make pigtails. You have an in and an out right on the front of the unit, and it takes balanced TRS or unbalanced TS.
What will you use it for? A notch filter, feedback murderer? Lowpass filtration on the 2bus for performative transitions? Nasal peaks? Dub stuff? Purist period-correct cinematic effects? Reductive sonic biopsies, additive implants?
MOJO MOJO."

Atomizing Acoustic Drums With Nuclear Research Equipment | Loop Pack
video upload by HAINBACH
"I wanted to spend time with an old friend of mine, who happens to be an excellent drummer. So I posed an experiment for us: what happens if you run acoustic drums into vintage nuclear research instruments? Spoiler: it sounds devastating! We liked the result so much that we made it into a 'Nuclear Drum Loops' pack, complete with single samples. Its ideal in any genre where you want something rough and different for your drums. Available now on http://hainbach.bandcamp.com"

Watford Electronics Rhythm Generator
via this auction
This one was spotted and sent in via M Me.
This appears to be the first post to feature the Rhythm Generator. Watford also made a Mark 1 drum machine mentioend in RHYTHM MACHINES - The Rise And Fall Of the Presets - by Alex Graham.
Details from the listing on the Rhythm Generator:
"Vintage Watford Electronics Rhythm Generator 1970s Drum Beats Machine Rare.
Built as a kit from Watford electronics parts with the UK magazine practical wireless. Basic unit but it's pretty rare. The exterior case is a little marked, the maker appears to have used it as a soldering iron rest 🤦🏻♀️ Would probably benefit from power and output leads / plug being rewired replaced, but it's been tested as working as far as using a pair of headphones goes with it. All the beats were heard through them and tempo/ volume change etc."

1969: What Is ELECTRONIC MUSIC? | Workshop | Radiophonic Workshop | BBC Archive
video upload by BBC Archive
Be sure to check out 3:59 on. I won't give it away, but it's interesting they had the same views back then. Note 7:33 for a glimpse of what would come. Finally also see this post for Daphne Oram's Oramics and her Bird of Parallax. See the Oramics label for more.
"What is electronic music? How is it produced?
Desmond Briscoe - the head of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop - enlists the help of Daphne Oram, David Cain and John Baker to explain the fundamentals of synthesised sound.
This clip is from Workshop: The Same Trade As Mozart, originally broadcast 3 August, 1969.
