DESIGNED BY TOM OBERHEIM. MAESTRO WAS ONE OF THE FIRST PEDAL MAKERS, IN THE 70'S.
THESE ARE RARER THAN RARE, AS YOU KNOW.
IT'S TWO DEVICES IN ONE: WHEN "FILTER" IS SELECTED, THE INSTRUMENT (GUITAR, ETC) THAT'S PLUGGED IN, AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATES AN ENVELOPE FOLLOWER, THAT CONTOURS THE MODIFIED LOW PASS FILTER'S RESPONSE CURVE ACCORDING TO THE DYNAMICS OF THE INPUT.
A VERY CONTROLLABLE (FILTER CONTROL) DYNAMIC EFFECT, A LITTLE MORE SUBTLE THAN "AUTO WAH".
THE REAL FUN COMES WITH THE "SAMPLE/HOLD" POSITION. HERE, THE FILTER'S RESPONSE IS CONTROLLED RANDOMLY, BUT WITH AN OVERLYING RHYTHMIC ELEMENT DETERMINED BY THE CONTROLLABLE LFO (S/H SPEED). IT'S NOT UNLIKE THE SOUND PEOPLE THOUGHT COMPUTERS MADE IN THE 60'S-70'S:)
BECAUSE SUCCESS WAS UNKNOWN, SOME ELECTRONIC PARTS WERE SELECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT WERE OF THEN-LESSER-QUALITY. THESE IMPART A VERY DESIRABLE AMOUNT OF SLIGHT GRIT TO THE SOUND.
SINCE THE AVAILABILITY OF SUCH PARTS HAVE LONG SINCE VANISHED,
THE ORIGINAL CIRCUIT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS PARTICULARLY FAVORED SOUND.
EXCLUSIVE TO THIS PARTICULAR DEVICE: THERE ARE "TRIMS" INSIDE, THAT HAVE BEEN OPTIMIZED.
ALSO EVERYTHING HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED AND LUBRICATED."
"The Maestro Rhythm Jester is a vintage drum machine from the 1960s, known for its quirky charm and distinctive analog sound. Manufactured by Maestro, a subsidiary of Gibson, the Rhythm Jester was designed to provide musicians with a simple yet effective rhythm accompaniment tool. It quickly became popular for its ease of use and the warm, characterful beats it produced.
"This is a rare Maestro Rhythm King Mark 4. It is VERY different from the more common and more colorful Maestro Rhythm King (we have it too if you want to buy it). The biggest difference is that the MKIV has an external audio input, which gets fed into a gate circuit that follows the rhythmic patterns of the preset pattern you choose on the drum machine.
