3/30/24 Pasco Scientific WA-9307A Fourier Synthesizer (modified) + Lexicon PCM 70 (3.0 Concert Hall)

video upload by Cfpp0

"This Pasco Scientific WA-9307A Fourier Synthesizer was just modified with a global pitch control. The 10K output goes to a Low-gain Electronics format jumbler (banana to 1/4” TS), then into a Lower West Side Studios Triple Attenuator module, and then into the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer, where it gets reverb from the Lexicon PCM 70."

video upload by Cfpp0

"Zerosum Inertia Cenotaph shows out at 2:07, 2:22, and 3:38. The right Pasco Scientific 9301 modulates the left 9301 throughout. Both 9301s need a bath."

Droning with Pasco Scientific

video upload by osixoone sevenone

"A little drone with Pasco Scientific educational equipment, and a Tibetan singing bowl, looped with Axoloti. The mic input is pretty hummy, so i tuned the drone to the hum and made it part of the drone.
The Fourier Synthesizer is fixed at a base frequency off 440 Hz."

"A few weeks ago I saw this Pasco Scientific set on a second hand site, and thought that these would be great for making drone music. It was made for education on waveforms, AM, FM, and Fourier Synthesis, and once belonged to a University. Steve Mann made a great video about the Pasco Fourier Synthesizer [below]. Today i made a little drone video with this set, and looping it with the Axoloti Core. The dual oscillators have sine, saw, square and ramp waveforms, and there is AM, DSB (dual sideband) and FM. OSC 1 is routed to the modulation input for OSC 2. You can also cross modulate them. At 4:00 i patch the sum out OSC 1 modulation. The Fourier Synthesizer is fixed at 440 Hz, the harmonics have individual level and phase controls."

Pic of the setup.

PASCO FOURIER SYNTHESIZER: Understanding Fourier series with one of my favorite things from 1970s

video upload by Steve Mann

"One of my favorite things from my childhood was the PASCO FOURIER SYNTHESIZER which left me with a very deep and fundamental understanding of periodic waveforms and their Fourier series representations.
I was fortunate enough to be able to play on this apparatus back in the early 1970s.
Here I try to capture the ineffable sense of awe and wonder that it left upon me.
Also featured is the Eico460 cathode ray oscilloscope that I've had since childhood, modified by switching over to a transparent CRT so you can see inside it and understand how an oscillosocpe works.

In 1978 I composed a piece of music that contains only a single note (while its various harmonics gently rise and fall): Adagio for PASCO FOURIER SYNTHESIZER and Lock-in Amplifier.
In 2016 we (Splashtones) did a live performance of this piece, accompanied by hydraulophone and clarinet, as the headline act for VRTO 2016.

"Pasco Scientific 9307 Fourier Synthesizer and 9302 Waveform Analyzer (multi-mode filter)

Incredibly rare alone, much less as a duo. It’s all in great shape and working condition, only known issue is the band reject setting on the 9302 doesn’t appear to work. Will include banana cables in picture.

Original all-analog versions and I’ve been told these can be modded, including CV over the filter. I have used these units in conjunction with Ciat Lonbarde, Flower Electronics, and Serge modular with great results.

These items are a little heavy and being sold as a combo, so buyer will need to cover all shipping expenses. I will be sure to pack these very well."

"PASCO SCIENTIFIC MODEL 9300 9307 FOURIER SYNTHESIZER.

It includes the INSTRUCTIONAL MANUAL and has been shop tested.

This synthesizer was declared excess by a university closing an electrical lab."

Not sure how well this would be incorporated into modular gear, and/or if the voltages coming out of it would damage other gear. They pop up every now and then. PASCO also made a Dual Function Generator which you can see in a video posted here.

via the seller: "This is a super rare scientific instrument used to produce harmonic Fourier sine waves. I have no idea how to use it, but it appears to be in perfect condition. It uses banana cables like Serge Modular or Buchla Modular synthesizers, but I have no way of integrating that into my current music studio."

PASCO Dual Function Generator + modulation

Published on Feb 26, 2013

"Brief demo of the Pasco dual function generator + modulation generator.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/124109528/vintage-dual-function-generator-2"

"Here we have a modified vintage Pasco scientific dual function generator. This thing has tons of great features and is capable of some amazing sonic architecture.

Each oscillator has 5 waveforms with duty cycle for the pulse and ramp waves. There is also a mixer section with 2 additional inputs. The first input is an 1/8" mono input with gain. One of my favorite patches with this beast is to run audio to the 1/8" in and take the banana out and patch it to the input on Gen 1.

Most of the modulation routing is done through the 2 modulation knobs but you can also experiment with various outs patched to generator 1's input ( white banana jack next to gen 1 ) You can also feed CV to the same input or the 2 CV in's on the front panel.

MODS:
*1/4" CV in for each oscillator ( 0 - 10v )
*1/4" audio out jack

**The dual function generator also comes with 2 banana cables and a 1/4" to banana jack converter so you can modulate Generator 1 with your 1/4" format gear.

**OPERATES ON 115 Volts"

"The Fourier synthesizer WA-9307 by PASCO scientific is a harmonic wave generator by which forming a periodic signal from it's sinusoidal harmonic components can be studied experimentally. The instrument can generate two separate fundamentals of 440Hz and their harmonics up to the 9th harmonic. The phase and amplitude charasteristics of each harmonic can be adjusted freely, so both sine and cosine components can be generated.

This unit is perfect working and in nice cosmetic conditions, very useful on modular synthesizers as Harmonic generator, professional
