Roland TB-303 with Kenton Upgrade

images via this auction
"Kenton upgrade specification:
Kit to add CV / Gate / Filter / Acent / Slide sockets to the Roland TB-303

When used in conjunction with one of our MIDI to CV converters, such as the Kenton Pro-2000, these five additional sockets will enable the synth to be played from a MIDI keyboard or MIDI sequencer.

The inputs are on 3.5mm mono jack sockets which provide the following control:
CV - provides Volt per Octave control over the oscillator frequency
Gate - controls when notes play (0 volts = note off / >3 volts = note on)
Filter - controls the cutoff frequency of the low pass filter (from aux out of converter)
Accent - turns on or off the accent feature (0 volts = accent off / >3 volts = accent on)
Slide - turns on or off the slide feature (0 volts = slide off / >3 volts = slide on)

The kit contains all necessary components and diagrams for connecting the wires / components, and mounting the four 3.5mm mono jack sockets.

Used with a Kenton Pro-2000 this kit will give you the following control over the synth from a suitable MIDI keyboard or sequencer:

Notes - Around four and a half octaves range - (this is not limited by the kit or converter, but by the synth itself)
Pitchbend - range can be set in the converter
Modulation - from converter's inbuilt LFO. Speed and waveshape can be changed in real time.
Portamento (slide) - rate can be changed in real time.
Filter cutoff frequency - can be controlled using any continuous MIDI controller (cc) or other MIDI message such as Aftertouch or Velocity
Low / High / Recent note priority - can be set in the converter
Single / Multiple note trigger modes - can be set in the converter
Accent - turn the TB-303s inbuilt accent feature on or off using MIDI control
Slide - turn the TB-303's inbuilt slide feature on or off using MIDI control
See the specifications of the Kenton Pro-2000 for further features."

Mini Studio Tour

"Well I just spent about 2 days re-arranging my studio for better ergonomics. Still tough to cram what I want to do into the furnace rooom in my basement, but whatever.

This is my first video! Taken on a crappy digital still camera at 3am, I could probably do a better job but hey, you gotta start somewhere"

Metalbox Drum Modules

see the full post on Muff Wiggler

"Let's talk drum modules.... my modular has gotten to a point where there's really just two main things missing (ok three if you count a Frequency Shifter) for basically covering all the possible functionality I could wish for. One is an army of analog sequencers. The other is a nice set of dedicated drum modules.

Well, I've been chipping away at the latter issue, and yesterday received a shipment of some custom modules from Metalbox that's pretty much solved the drum-module defecit in my synth."

TR-808 run through some FX boxes

via swissdoc:
"I did some demo recordings of a TR-808 run through some FX boxes. You hear a Roland TR-808 run trough the Korg SE-300 Band Echo, but this not in Echo Mode, just using the very nice distortion it can create by overdriving the input stage. After the SE-300 I used a Korg CMP-1 Compressor to get the levels a bit under control.

tr808_se300_pure.mp3
This is the "dry" signal from the SE-300, just every beat turning the Channel A - Volume knob up one digit.

tr808_se300_tape.mp3
This is the delay signal from the SE-300, so the signal was recorded to tape and played back again. Only the "wet" signal is heard, so no delay effect is perceived, just additional punch from the tape saturaton. Again every beat the Channel A - Volume knob is turned up one digit.

tr808_se300_spring.mp3
Same again, this time the signal is run through the built in spring reverb of the SE-300. Mix is 50/50. What a shattery and metalic sound that is. Again every beat the Channel A - Volume knob is turned up one digit.

tr808_solasound.mp3
The TR-808 is now run through a Solasound Tone Bender, which is a 70s stomp box. Again every beat the FUZZ knob is turned up a bit."
