My Intern David recording Double Tremeloed Omnichord
YouTube via RothHandle
"Yesterday we kept on working on the Victorias Moralez track piecing together rhythms and ambient stuff to create layers to be used behind the song. My intern David was a complete trouper helping me out. My initial idea was to have a Autoharp chord at the beginning of the "big " middle section but it didnt really turn out too great. So we moved on to the Jery JOnes sitar and tuned the resonator strings....still didnt do the track. So...finally we ended up recording the OMnichord using two tyremeloes to give it a wide random fluttery effect. This was of course dubbed to enhance the effect.
If you are curious about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu for more information, booking and blogs.
Thank for watching !

A Vintage 16K Music Demo (William Tell Overture)
YouTube via VironCybernet. Music starts at 3:05
"This was made by Garry and Linda Howard in 1982. There was a 32K version... but... The code was published in a magazine and the terms of use were to type it in and save it on a tape and then run it as is, which is what I did, having to push either 30000 or 60000 keys, I only had 16K so I typed in that version. The longer version had the less interesting part of this melody.
Before it plays you can hear what the program data sounds like on the tape as it reads almost 16K of data from the tape at about 1200 baud.
It's not a copyright violation to run it and show it to people as it is, because that is what it is for.
I can describe the USUAL musical sounds from this machine as sounding very much like the buzzer on a game show when someone gives a wrong answer. This program probably made the best sounding music ever with the TRS-80, and I show it to you because it's on an 8-bit 16K machine with usually crappy sound, like my 1985 synthesizer disk for the Apple II, and it's a historic demo that was famous with people who had TRS-80's but is almost forgotten now.
And also it is either evidence or proof of concept of getting a lot of high quality sound or music without much memory, certainly much less than an MP3 of it would need."
lets get lofi 2 - Yamaha PS-55 String Ensemble

"Mmmm this keyboard has a nice string sound. Another carboot bargin at £7. I filmed this in my nice tidy studio...err ..not so tidy actually. I used the string ensemble preset from the 'orchestra' mixed with a bit of violin from the monophonic 'solo' section. The phat sounding strings are mostly down to a very nice built in chorus, but you'll probably have to use HQ mode to hear its full effect."

"Stella is an analog step sequencer based on an old P3 sequencer kit. It has been made trying to make some different to the standard 16 step linear sequencing of those TR-style sequencers.
It has two rounds of 16 knobs each one, and designed on an orbital/elllipse line. I have tried to randomize to the maximum the fact to add musical notes. When you see one linear step sequencer, automatically divides on a grid of four steps, and this one makes the music creation to sound very rigid. Avoiding that "griding" effect, the results is that the music is more natural and so different."
