Some Belgian pop on the Casio toy pile.

YouTube via organfairy — May 04, 2010 — "It has been a while since my last mangling of a pop song on my pile of Casio toy keyboards. But now I have done it again.

This time the victim is "It could happen to you" by Belgian trio Telex. The keyboards I use are: PT-80, PT-88, SA-1, SA-3, MT-240, ML-1, SA-20, and SA-35. The are all made by Casio.

Most of the sound is untreated. The only exceptions are that I have added a little reverberation to the PT-80 that plays the melody, and I have boosted the bass on the SA-20 that plays the bass line."

Clock Locker Demo

YouTube via ugufru — May 04, 2010 — "This demonstrates preliminary operation of the Miduino (Arduino) based Clock Locker MIDI master clock. The big silver knob controls the tempo. The left button is start/restart, and the right button is stop/continue. The back of the unit contains standard MIDI IN and OUT jacks and sends MIDI clock messages to a drum machine in this demo. Also on the back are analog clock sends for use with analog modular synthesizers. It's hard to see from the video, but a tri-color LED is indicating the tempo by alternately flashing green, red, and blue."

Jean Michel Jarre in China

Parts 6 - 8 added to this post. That is the end of the series. I did a quick search on Jean Michel Jarre China on Amazonand couldn't find this. If anyone knows where it comes from feel free to comment in that post.

Niall's Mattson Mini Modular "Laptop"

via George Mattson

"Custom 24 module bookmatched fiddleback maple case with a serious attempt at continuous perimeter grain.

The customer wanted it to open up like a laptop."

via George Mattson on Muff's:

"Basically, the case is two horizontal cases hinged like the standard cases. I made them out of fiddle back maple and did my best to match the grain around the perimeters and bookmatch the pattern on the opposite case.

Since he wanted to use it "laptop" fashion, I made power connectors accessible from the right rear sides rather than put them on the back panel.

The depth of each cabinet is 1/2" less than my standard cabinets. 3" rather than 3.5" deep. i tried to get them as narrow as I could without having the back of the modules run into the power distribution boards and leave enough front lip to where the panel components wouldn't breach the front edge case plane.

I stared at the boards for a long time before I actually started cutting..."

via Niall on Muff's: "My Mini has arrived! I'll spare you the unboxing photos, because I think George has better photos than I can provide [pics in this post]. I haven't had the opportunity to play with it, having been waylaid happily for the evening, but I can comment on a few salient points:

It's bigger than I thought it would be, which is to say not too small. The controls aren't that much more cramped than functionally dense small format modules. It's beautiful. I had asked George if he'd consider designing a cabinet to be used in a "laptop" fashion. He thought about it for awhile, asked questions, thought some more, asked some more questions, and after some back and forth, made this case. It's awesome, can I can't wait to stuff the other side. It's a wonderful confluence of function and aesthetics - in other words, good design.

George was very generous with his time and materials. He's made a lifer of me.

Now, I just gotta get the Evenfall in shouting distance of it, and make some noise."

Mattson Mini Modular Voltage Controlled Dual LFO

"The Voltage Controlled Dual LFO is identical to the standard Mattson Dual LFO with the ability to control the oscillator rates independently with an external CV.

CV in: Input jack for the external control CV.

CV amt: Attenuator to control the amount of effect the external CV will have on the oscillator rate.

All other controls: Please see the Dual LFO page for more detailed information."

Squid Shifter

YouTube via grandtippler — May 03, 2010 — "More info and listing here: http://makersmarket.com/pro..."

"The Squid Shifter is an effects pedal that makes a sound that is a cross between heavy distortion and a synth.

The Squid Shifter uses a digital pitch shift that is fed back into the mix using the shift control knob. The Level control knob sets of level of the output sound.

The mode button controls the frequency of the shift, there are 8 levels of shift and one level that mixes all shifted frequencies together. The Vibe button adds a hardcore vibrato that gives you a very very messy sound.

Power is provided to the device when the input plug is connected. The foot switch allows you to bypass the effect.

The input and output are standard mono 1/4in sockets.

The unit uses and standard 9v volt battery for power.

Happy noise making.

Uncharted Waters: Advanced Waterphone Performance Sampler

"Welcome to a new and exciting instrument, the Advanced Waterphone Performance Sampler. This instrument for Kontakt 3 and 4 is designed from high quality samples of Richard Waters’ amazing invention, the waterphone.

These samples are rich in microtonality and complex timbres. Our instrument is designed to respond like a waterphone giving you the joy and surprise of exploring some of the random sonic worlds that are born from different bowings, strikes and hits on the waterphone.

Different velocities trigger different timbres, samples and combinations. Some are predictable, some surprising. Please see the video demos [below]

Uncharted Waters is exclusively available through Richard Waters’ website: www.waterphone.com. This introductory offer is a steal at $15 for the complete downloadable instrument."

"This is a demo of Uncharted Waters, a sampler instrument for Kontakt 3 and 4 utilizing Richard Waters' amazing invention the Waterphone. The sampler will be available on Richard Waters' site waterphone.com
Made by Todd Barton, Joel Henigson, and Richard Waters"

Uncharted Waters: advanced Waterphone performance sampler from todd barton on Vimeo.

"This is a live, real-time performance sampler based on samples made with the blessing of Richard Waters, the inventor of the Waterphone. Samples are mapped to a keyboard in a to give the "feel" of actually playing a waterphone. Velocity, repeated key strokes, aftertouch and mowheel all interact for a surprising and inspiring timbral journey for the sonically curious. This audio file was performed in a single pass without editing or external effects. Original programming and design by Todd Barton and Joel Henigson. Enjoy!"
