Geoff Downes on Synths

YouTube Uploaded by MoogMusicInc on Aug 16, 2011

"Moog caught up with Geoff Downes during his 2011 tour with Yes to talk about synths and his ever-changing stage rig. Geoff Downes is the legendary keyboardist for Asia and the Buggles, and also holds the unofficial record for most keyboards on stage at a whopping 28."

Someone needs to count Jean Michel Jarre's setup.

Akai VX-600 Vintage Analog Synth

via this auction

"This VX-600 is in fantastic condition. It's a 6 Voice analog synth with a rich sound that draws a lot of comparisons to the Oberheim Xpander. It has deep modulation matrix and is capable of some really amazing stuff. Barely a scratch on it. Passes all tuning/calibration. Works perfectly. I think the EL Foil on the display works fine because I can read it clearly and adjust the contrast etc. Comes with a very rare BR-16 memory card which has a bunch of sounds loaded on it."

E-mu Systems DRUMULATOR 7000 Drum Machine with Manual and Case

via this auction where you'll find more pics.

"The Drumulator is a sample based drum machine from early 1983. The original Drumulator stock sound set was gritty, lo-fi, 12-bit samples of basic drum sounds, which become a classic in many songs of the 80s. The company now known as Digidesign, or Avid (Pro Tools), created sound sets for the E-Mu Drumulator and other sample-based drum machines.

There is a fantastic website review of the E-mu Drumulator if you go to the following url" [emulator archive]

MPC ELECTRONICS MPC1 VINTAGE ANALOGUE DRUM MACHINE 1982

via this auction

"MPC Electronics MPC-1 analogue drum machine from 1982. These are very uncommon - an English drum computer... It's capable of some great sounds, and is one of the less-used analogue drum machines: it's been likened to an 808 sonically, and whilst that's not far off the mark, I think its strength is that it isn't an 808 (which has been used/sampled/replicated to death) - it represents a chance to stand out from the crowd. It certainly has a unique physical presence and wow-factor.
Individual outs also make it very tweakable mix-wise, as do the various onboard tweaks for individual sounds."

Cwejman PH-4

via this auction

"It's a 4 phase frequency generator that can work brilliantly for very slow LFOs up to audio rate oscillation. It has 4 outputs of the same waveform, but at different phase points which are 0 degrees, 90, 180 and 270. The 4 phase outputs are great for very organic modulations of different functions when used at audio rate as a modulator and as a very slow modulation source. Tracks at 1 volt per octave Switchable between sine and triangle waveforms, offset control (very useful) and CV control over the rate, offset AND level.

This is really well thought out module and is a compliment to any modular system."
