"This is practically done now... holy fhtagn, I have made a synthesizer O_O.
I haven't checked to see how in tune it is, but I wired the keyboard up properly now and it was in tune enough that things I played sounded like they were supposed to.
Unfortunately it's already starting to make worrying crackles and "failure imminent" kind of noises so I made this video with haste, thus, I didn't really know what to play so I just improvized a bit and played some old video game tunes :)"

"LIDER-1 (produced by Formanta factory in 1982 - the one which made a legendary POLIVOKS) is a guitar microsynthesizer designed to be applied by guitar players who use external effects in the live performance or studio work. The synthesizer is a floor-mounted unit with four rubber footswitches; it also has sliders and knobs for changing the parameters of effects. LEADER-1 has 5 main series sections: MIXER, PHASER, FILTER, MODULATOR, and OUTPUT - every one with its own parameters and indicators. Commutation: line input, output (line, phone, amplifier). On the outer surface of the bottom panel, an input sensitivity regulator is situated."

The recording and mixing is absolutly live, on one track . No overdubs!
Maybe you see another track on the display, but it is an old track and was setting on "mute".

"Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706): Canon in D

This very famous work from the Baroque period was actually forgotton for centuries, rediscovered only recently in the early 1900s. Today, it has become quite ubiquitous, and is frequently performed at weddings and included in classical compilation discs. This piece combines the musical devices of canon and ground bass. Three voices are engaged in canon, where each part plays the same phrase offset by a certain number of beats. The fourth voice is a basso continuo, playing the same two-measure phrase throughout the piece. The chord progression in this piece: I - V - vi - iii - IV - I - IV - V is present in other classical works as well as much of the popular music we hear today (U2's "With or Without You" and Blues Traveler's "Hook", to name a few).

This rendition is synthesized using the "strings", "harpsichord" and "voice" instruments of our MATLAB-based synthesizer. It is tuned in just intonation, centered on D = 294 Hz. Just intonation is a tuning system in which the frequencies of the twelve chromatic pitches are chosen based on fixed ratios compared to the center pitch. For example, the frequency of the major 3rd is 5/4 times that of the root. Thus, in this case F# is 367.5 Hz. In just intonation, intervals tend to sound more consonant then in the most common equal temperament system, but if a piece modulates to a new key area, the consonant ratios between frequencies are no longer preserved."

here is what started off to be an acoustic version of the new single 'every night i say a prayer' until i realised i couldn't do the middle so enlisted the help of my trusty casio sk-5 (which also has dog and lion samples, handy if you're want to scare off neighbours' cats).

you have no idea how hard the timing of the piano riff is to get whilst singing at the same time! so its a bit ropey in places but as always well intentioned...
