"This is a Japanese 100v model, I'll supply a basic converter for it to run in the UK but there are better, more versatile converters on the market. 100% functional, even comes with the plastic protective shield that originally lay over the face of the synth underneath the sliders (this was fitted when I bought it but thought it was a bit like sex with a condom so I removed it). Contrary to what I've seen elsewhere this isn't better than a sh-2, 09 or 101, just different, they all have their strong points, compared to the 101 I used to have I much prefer the controls/sliders on this, but I really miss the sequencer on the former. Also the trigger in is +15v as opposed to +5v like the 101, which I found to be a pain as most other gear is +5v compatible. Key action is clunky and horrible in my opinion, just like the other 70's Rolands I've tried/used, but it's down to taste I guess. Anyone interested should come view this first to see for themselves how shockingly good the condition is and to assure themselves of it's working condition too."

"This is the ORIGINAL DCO synthesizer model. Around the time my recently turned 52 year old body was graduating from HS Crumar was selling this item. A synthesizer that would have tuning stability. Yet they called it DCO when in reality the control is ANALOG....however the generation of that initial waveform was a digital chip... a 74LS221 set up as a relaxation oscillator with a capacitor. In other words the analog control currents charge a capacitor to the threshold of the chip and it discharges the cap at that point and then starts a new charging cycle while outputting a waveform that is tied to that frequency.

Anyway DIGITAL was a new buzz word back then :-). Then they didn't want to emphasize the fact that everything AFTER the digital chips that create the initial waveforms is analog. Down to the details of the delay circuit for the LFO where the flexible modulations can be made to GRADUALLY arise after the strike of a note, rather than abruptly like on polysix and some other common analog synths. So this is a fairly powerful analog beast in other words that has oscillators that stay stable. I acquired a DS2 which adds a poly section into the mix and extra lfo so decided to let this one go since... they are otherwise extremely similar.

FOR THE COLLECTOR though..they built a few thousand DS-2's it appears. THey built probably (from the serials we've seen) less than 200 of the DS--1. So it is one of the most collectable 'landmark' synths in history.

THis one as you can see is in really awesome shape for it's age. I'll put lots of end padding in the box so that corners dont' get smashed and the innards don't get trashed. Will final check it before shipment. The tune pots were a little iffy as I recall last I played it so I'll clean those. Otherwise it was working awesome! I got this from a guy in Hawaii! Serial number A72 as I remember. I think we've seen serials up to A 144 or like that.."

Modular Sounds 3

YouTube Published on Jul 1, 2012 by pjoris2

"I wanted to do something structured exploring basic wave shaping, but got carried away and endup with something unstructured with only a little waveshaping. That's modulars for you ... Here is a quick recording of what I ended up with, just to have a some start to hopefully some more and better videos.

The patch:
- basic sequence on the ASol SQ8, clocked by a AS LFO
- through Doepfer A-156 quantizer (transposed by AS Sorceror keyboard)
- controlling an AS VCO, output saw/triangle, waveform controlled by another AS LFO
- amplitude envelope controlled by basic AS Envelope generator-VCA patch triggered by SQ8 trigger out
- in AS echo module
- one output from the echo goes directly to the mixing board
- the other in an AMS JP8 filter, resonance high up, freq controlled by a (slow) LFO and a VCO (which I turn up at the end)
- other inputs in the filter: o some random stuff from the harvestman hertz donut o and equally random stuff from the synthesis technology cloud generator which was processed by the dopefer reverb
- all this goes into the AS frequency shifter (with some frequency modulation from another LFO) to give some stereo spread
- and this also goes into the mixing board."
