via Waldorf: "The well-known VST software instrument is now available in a real hardware box!
RackAttack integrates classic analog sounds of the 80s with the ambitious electronic club drums of the 90s, for music of the 21st century.

The RackAttack's virtual modeled circuitry synthesis is optimized for drums and percussion. Beyond those, leads, basses and effect sounds are possible too. The RackAttack has the same easy-editing user interface found in the microQ series, perfect for live acts - perfect for the studio!

The integrated pattern play mode turns the RackAttack into a true live-machine. Get your kicks from up to 24 synchronized patterns – triggered simultaneously by one MIDI-note. Assign one of the four effect units to each sound and spice it up with reverb, a modulation delay or the Lo-Fi effect."

IDOW Hardcore Edition In The Wild

For those that missed it, the Hardcore edition of the I Dream of Wires modular documentary has shipped! Most in the US and Canada have received their copies, including myself. :) Oversees should follow soon. There has been quite a few pics of the cover, but not any of the full package with the Hex Inverter IDOW batteryACID module and extras.  I just spotted this image via @RichardDevine and thought I'd post it.

"Awesome, our copy of I Dream of Wires arrives can't wait to watch this tonight!"

Note the four hour hard core edition was a limited release and is no longer available for order.  The theatrical release however is coming and should be out in the Fall.  You can track progress on the IDOW Facebook page.

Moog Music Earns Distinction by Inc. Magazine as one of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies

"ASHEVILLE, NC – August 26, 2013 – Moog Music is proud to announce that it has been ranked as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America, earning a position of 4023 on the prestigious Inc. 5000 list. This is the third year in a row that Moog Music has appeared on the list, which is a comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America's independent entrepreneurs.

The criteria for acceptance into the 2013 Inc. 5000 list were the most difficult in history. For example, the median company on the list increased sales in excess of 140 percent since the beginning of 2010, while the average Inc. 5000 list honoree grew a mind-boggling 468 percent. These are impressive results considering the challenging economy companies have been faced with over the course of the last three years.

Mike Adams, CEO/President of Moog Music, commented on the achievement: "I understand from the editors of Inc. that making this list for the third straight year is quite an accomplishment. This recognition is to be shared with the employees of Moog Music who consistently design, sell, and build quality electronic musical instruments that our customers want.”

As part of the Inc. 5000, Moog Music now shares a pedigree with industry leading organizations such as Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Jamba Juice, Timberland, Clif Bar, Patagonia, Oracle and dozens of other recent alumni. In addition to Moog Music, the 2013 list now includes companies such as Alex and Ani, LivingSocial, Bojangles, OtterBox and KT Tape.

The Inc. 5000 list debuted in 2007 as a ranking of the 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. Through this list and the magazine's other lists, Inc. has sought to recognize and to celebrate the creativity, dedication, and hard work that entrepreneurs put into building their companies. Complete results of the Inc. 500 and Inc. 5000 can be found on Inc.com/500 and Inc.com/5000 respectively.

Experiments In Sync Featuring Moon Modular 554 And 569

"This video is in response to questions I've received on using the Moon Modular 554 Octal Clock Divider and related modules.

This video kept failing in the last 5 seconds when rendering, making it usable. After the third time compiling (which took 2 hours each time! grrr) I gave up and just used a re-indexing utility to save it, which worked except for the abrupt end during the fade out. Sorry about that!"

Update: some additional details on what's for sale:

"I have some inventory left over from when we shut down production in the early-1980’s. These units have been sitting in storage untouched for more than 30 years:
VPK-5 keyboards: Most of these are test units used on the production floor. They have some minor marks and scratches but they’re in very good shape. I am selling these for $400 each.

Cat SRM II and CatSticks: These are essentially new and I check each one before shipping to make sure they work and are calibrated. I am selling the Cats for $2,000 each and the CatSticks for $500 each.

Cat Clocks: These were produced in the late 70s for music stores and are very rare. They have a fluorescent light inside and a section on the bottom to put a message with snap in letters. I’m selling these for $100 each.

Keyboards: I have some 3 octave keyboards that were used on the Cat synthesizers. These can be used to repair similar keyboards, or for building a synthesizer. I'm selling these for $100 each.
If you know of anyone that might be interested in this gear, please forward this information to them. Attached are some photos and literature.

Regards
Carmine"

The Very First Exclusively Analogue Aviator

via Exclusively Analogue where you'll find the full post.

"Digging around the other day we came across a set of photographs of the very first Aviator, the 'First of the Few'. This first unit was very much a prototype and although it had a full front panel initially it was mounted into a rack case with all the additional electronics circuitry bolted on. Later the unit was modified, put into a proper case and the additional circuitry tidied up. On the very early Aviators the 3 Voltage Controlled Oscillators and the Voltage Controlled Low Frequency Oscillator were built on individual circuit boards that were stacked. The 24dB Low Pass Filter, the Range Switch and Ring Modulator Circuitry were also on individual circuit boards..."

Not seeing the year for it in the post.

STG Soundlabs Digital Attenuators

via Suit Et Tie Guy on Facebook

"Well now that the front panels are on the way and WMD has the PCBs and will be able to manufacture these for me after Knobcon, I think it's safe to throw up the sales page.

http://stgsoundlabs.com/products/digital_attenuators_mu.htm"

"The Digital Attenuators module is 3 digitally-controlled analogue attenuators (use them as VCAs) with a multipurpose sidechain input and switchable AC/DC coupling in 1MU. Each cell is built around a microcontroller and a digital potentiometer (an IC which functions as a digitally-controlled resistor pair, essentially), because only the digital potentiometer and unity i/o buffers are in the signal chain this is an extremely clean VCA.

A benefit of this arrangement is being able to read the audio input into the microprocessor and only update the digital potentiometer at the zero crossings of the input signal. no more irritating clicks on sine wave bass! in addition, the sidechain input can be used to send a different signal for reference to the zero crossing detector, which can also be switched to look for triggers or switched off completely so the digital potentiometer is updated constantly..."
