OB6: 'Starsong #3' ("Orion's Belt")
Published on Sep 3, 2018 Kris Lennox
"The two uploads prior to the Liszt post from the other day I've added to Soundcloud under the title 'Starsongs'. Hence the title of this one as #3. I'm going for a really soft, gentle sound. Distant, like the stars in the night sky. The three LH notes/ascending arpeggio represent the three stars of Orion's Belt (Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka). Last night the belt was slanting upwards, hence ascending arpeggios. The first three melody notes represent Betelgeuse, Meissa, and Bellatrix, with the 5-note sequence representing 5 of the stars from the bow (there are 6, but last night I could only see 5).
I spend a lot of time under the stars i.e. overnighters up mountains/in valleys. If it is dry, I often don't bother with a tent i.e. just bivvy on the ground with a sleeping bag, looking up at the stars until I fall asleep. There's nothing better.
If you live in a city, it is definitely worth getting out into the wilderness - just for the sake of looking up. Awe-inspiring.

SynthMania: My favorite Joy Division song.
Published on Sep 3, 2018 SynthMania
"When I was a teenager in the '80s I was a huge Joy Division fan (still am), it was my favorite band during my 'dark' period. 'Decades' is the song of theirs that I've always loved the most. I used to put Closer on the turntable in my room at night, and fall asleep lullabied by this beautiful, gorgeous song. I'm prepping some songs for a gig at 'Knob Con' this weekend and I'm definitely gonna play this one. Played all live in one take following an inspiration, I programmed the drums on the Circuit, added the minimal bass in the Monologue, played the strings on the microSTATION and sang into a microphone live as the inspiration strikes, feedback and all."

One Small Synth, Ep. 2: Bastl Kastle
Published on Sep 3, 2018 Aidan Burns-Fulkerson
"This is the second installment in a micro-series diving deep into my collection of minuscule synthesizers. Each episode will shine the spotlight on one little synth. There will be no talking, just music or noise, depending on the synth in question and your personal taste in sound.
This episode will listen to the always awesome and weird Bastl Kastle. This mini-modular synth can be screechy when angry, but harmonic and beautiful when calm. All the warm organic tones and patterns are rewarding to find and surprising in depth.
The next episode will feature one of the Pocket Operators."

"What happens when you combine the flange side of the Digitech Nautila effects pedal with a Moog Sub 37 white noise generator and filter? A fighter jet flyby in your home studio! This video demonstrates the results. Listen in stereo for the best experience."
