Ambient 0 v1.5 - Microtonal Ambient Techno Jam

video upload by ChrisLody

"So Sonicware dropped a new firmware update for the Ambient 0 on Friday which fixes bug and adds a bunch of new features, main details below.

So this jam uses the Noise channel to process external audio by filtering it and panning it around, plus the hands on control for that is great fun. I've also dialled in a Pure Minor temperament and I'm using the new Osc Level target to create an envelope like decay using a one shot LFO. Hopefully you'll be able to hear some of the new temperament in this, particularly in the melody line. Because of the way temperaments work (video soon) they all need a root note assigning to them and this can be abused to get things even more wonky which is what I've done here by setting it to Ab which I'm sure is the wrong key. All in all some very nice additions which make the Amb0 even more appealing to me."

"Extremely powerful little box, with a complete XG synth factory-fitted inside what would otherwise be an NS5R - itself powerful. In excellent cosmetic condition, and including the two necessary manuals - NS5R and NX5R - but we don't have a two-pin US voltage figure-of-eight lead to try it out with. The socket is also keyed, so we don't know if (unusually) polarity might be important. Pretty rare!"

"Another powerful little box from Korg. This one has huge polyphony and a mass of AI2 sounds - see https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/korg-x5dr."

"Korg's most powerful Wavestation, with Prophet VS-style vector sequencing and the ability to input stereo audio for genuine vocoding and many other effects. Serial number 300317. This has some scuffs around the data slots and, strangely, Contrast knob - and doesn't have rack ears. But otherwise it is excellent cosmetically. It's such a powerful machine that to get the most out of it, having access to the manual is pretty useful. We've printed out the 340-page (!) Korg Performance Note, included. (If that's a note, I'd hate to have to lift the full manual....) The display is perfectly readable, but in a few years' time you might want to go for one of the several smart replacements available. UK/Euro voltage, with a UK or Euro mains lead. Packing 12GBP."

YAMAHA TQ5 FM TONE GENERATOR SN QN01016

"The Yamaha TQ5 tone generator is a 4op FM synthesizer with 8 voices, 8 notes polyphony and the usual 8 algorithms. It belongs to the same family of the Yamaha DX11 and TX81Z but it also adds ten built-in effects including reverb, delay and distortion, sharing a lot with the V50 and EOS B200. The unit also includes a 8-track sequencer, which makes it a great all-in-one machine in a rather small package.

The TQ5 has 100 presets, plus another 100 patches in RAM and an optional RAM card containing an additional 100 slots. The built-in sequencer is capable of storing 999 bars of music (about 10,000 notes) that can be recorded in real time or step time from a master keyboard. It also has a function of dubious utility which shows the current time, date and day of the week after a minute of inactivity. It does however expand on the "easy edit" functionality first introduced with the TX81Z and DX11, letting you modify FM parameters with an analog-like approach.

The TQ5 sits in the middle of Yamaha's departure from the DX era: on one side it still retains full compatibility with the classic 4op FM technology while adding bits and pieces to make it sound better and easier to program, but on the other side it's a hard break with the hardware design and interface paradigms that made Yamaha famous during the 1980s.

Supposedly, the slanted design of the control panel should make it easy to operate when placed on the left side of the controlling keyboard. Yamaha suggest having it on top of a PF1500 electronic piano, which is probably the only place it was designed for, considering that every synthesizer made by Yamaha till 1988 had sliders on the left side of the top panel. It won't even fit on a KX76 MIDI keyboard which should be a better companion than an electronic piano.

Although no further information could be found, the TQ5 has apparently been designed (together with the YS200) by the German design firm Frog, which was also responsible of Apple's successful design language of the late 1980s but probably never really understood how a synthesizer works."

V-SHAPE and SAMPLE HOLD & SLEW Stepped Wave-Shaping / Timbre Modulation Session #eurorack

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"Short performance example using Sample & Hold to add random modulation to wave shape in a musically intuitive way. The V-Shape is a very capable wave shaper, also featuring optional distortion, and voltage control over both. Here the wave shape of a simple triangle wave is being twisted to produce a much more interesting variety of timbres, each being instigated by gate signals from a keyboard CV controller. Gate signals sent to the Clock input of the Sample Hold & Slew module bypass its internal clock, and trigger it to create a new random voltage when a gate signal is received. This way a keyboard or sequencer can be used to step through the random voltages as desired. See the following video for an example doing this with a sequencer, also using the V-Shape: • Patch of the Week: 'Schulze School' -..." [2nd video in the playist here]

Arcaico Dominus Dual complex oscillator #eurorack #synthesizer #modularsynth

video upload by Arcaico Instruments

"Dominus is a dual complex vco Saw Core with integrated wavefolder. Each VCO is independent and has 4 waveforms and all the classic basic VCO controls, with a very stable 1v/oct control up to 10 octaves.
The wavefolder section is independent and inside is connected to the vco, through the switches you can select one of the 3 waveforms, you can mix the two vcos or use only one.
By modifying the sound in a non-linear way the wavefolder will create wonderful sounds.
The Radius potentiometer adjusts the range over a certain frequency band.
In the CV control you can use envelopes, lfos, and sequencers to create very complex soundscapes.
The SHAPE knob adjusts, modifies and distorts the final result.
The VCO1 and VCO2 potentiometers adjust the level of each VCO, various level settings will create very different sounds.

Frequency range min.6hz max.24.000hz"
