XV5080 SRX-07 patches
XV5080 SRX-07 patches by CoolColJ
"Selected patches from the SRX-07 expansion board for the XV5080.
Analog out through Speck Xtramix CXI, which does colour the sound a fair bit.
Makes it warmer and more buttery :)"

Alesis Andromeda House demo track - through Nebula NAG tape at 15ips by CoolColJ
"Processed through Nebula NAG analog tape program at 15ips
Since the programs are made at -10db, there is quite a bit of saturation going on with the mix at -1db or so
At 30ips"

Studio Electronics Code 8 multi mode test - CS80 filters - Chill out
YouTube Uploaded by CoolColJ on Sep 11, 2011
'A little Studio Electronics Code 8 multimode test using 3 sounds on different midi channels, all with CS80 filters.
Trying out the freeware SEQ24 pattern sequencer, and I then played over the top of it
Straight into my Audio interface, and I added some reverb.
Nothing else done, just raw unprocessed synth sound.
Tried to be creative with the video :P
Seems darker than original, after the Youtube processing :(

"The more aggressive side of the Omega Code 8 :)
It tends be more Hi Fi sounding synth, so it takes some effort to make it gnarly.
I changed filter types throughout, and went from poly to, dual unison to 4 voice unison"

Mutlimode seemed to work well, but there are some bugs when you set the number of voices for each part... the last polyphonic part just wouldn't retain it's 6 voice seting, it kept reverting to 5 voices everytime I came back to it for some reason
The Alesis Andromeda when using the 12db filter doesn't sound a whole lot different to this Code 8 CS80 filter :)"

Alesis Andromeda - Mellow Groove
Alesis Andromeda - Mellow Groove by CoolColJ
"I did this test clip a decade ago, to try out the Andromeda with other synths.
I didn't intend it to, but it ended up sounding like a Boards of Canada track :)
I've always felt the Andromeda has that ethereal BOC quality without any processing and I guess this is proof of that
The bass and pad sound is Andromeda.
The drums is an unreleased drum synth VST. There is a TX416 lead sound, using one TX module. Basically a DX7
And some MKS80 rev strings"

"Using the CS80 filters off course :)
Although I think, technically they're Yamaha GX1 filters....
High pass filter cranked to max resonance to give a nice saturation to the low end, a bit like transformers? :p"

Technics WSA1 Sustain Pedal Pad
Technics WSA1 Sustain Pedal Pad by CoolColJ
"The Technics WSA1 is surpisingly good for pad sounds, think Korg Wavestation'ish with a twist.
This was just a typical filter synth sound, until I stepped on the sustain pedal, and then it became this gorgeous pad sound!
Tweaking the X-Y track ball made it even sweeter :)"

Studio Electronics Code 8 Arp2600 filter demo by CoolColJ
"Someone requested a solo Arp2600 filter demo on the Code 8
here it is - there is some delay added, just to make it less boring
Single sawtooth, legato and glide some VCO2 to filter crossmodulation, sub-oscillator, then dual sawtooth
Soundcloud processing makes it a bit fuzzy - 24 bit original file download available"

"Putting the Studio Electronics Code 8 and CS80 filter through it's paces, along with testing Sonar X1 to see if it will become my preferred DAW + Sequencer
Code 8 defintely has a big sound....Sonar X1's sequencing seems pretty robust and nice as well
No compression or EQ used."

Studio Electronics CODE8 - Mini vs Arp2600 filter
Studio Electronics CODE8 - Mini vs Arp2600 filter by CoolColJ
"A little shootout between the standard Mini 24db low pass filter and the optional Arp2600 24db low pass filter.A single oscillator sawtooth + sub-oscillator used hereThe Mini filter is a bit smooth and tame for high resonance sounds. I much prefer the Arp2600 filter, and should have come as standard for a better all round 24db low pass filter IMO
Shades of Juno106 with ARP2600 filter :)"

Studio Electronics Code 8 filter demo - Mini, Arp2600, CS80, SEM by CoolColJ
"A dual Sawtooth sequence
Order of filters - Moog, Arp2600, CS80, SEM LPF, SEM BPF, SEM HPF, SEM Band reject
then CS80 with it's High pass filter engaged and tweaked.
Then more normal playing with the filters in the same order more or less"

"A little different from the ones posted from other people. I mix in the High Pass filter halfway through, with resonance on max. Not unlike the Andromeda's 12db filter in sound in some ways"

A6 Creamier sound
A6 Creamier sound by CoolColJ
"I have found the Andromeda's oscillators have a tendency to lock to each other and phase cancel. A byproduct of the too accurate auto tuning perhaps, which tunes every octave on the board. So even when you detune then oscillators they still don't sound quite right.
Contrast that with old analog synths which usually have a single scaling trim pot for the whole keyboard range. And they are never tight because of that, the top and bottom of the keyboard is always out a bit, but they sound better for it.
Here is a way to get that creamier sound out of the A6 - knock the scaling out by modulating oscillator pitch with key number!
+0.02, with an offset of -0.01 does the trick
as heard here :)
Soundcloud's processing did some weird crap to the audio :/"
Update: an another tip via Steve on the A6 list:
"Another good, standard trick is to go to View Oscillator, select nzext, select red noise, and then set it to about .36 on LinFM, PWM or one of the other choices there. This uses slight randomization to modulate the oscillator and adds a little more "natural imperfection" into the sound. It'll warm up almost any patch, and gets rid of what my brain translates into, for some reason, the "straw"-like quality of the A6's sound (straw as in hay)."

"Sound of Technics WSA1 using it's analog outs
Guitar driver through a random resonator, and a sawtooth through a cone resonator (trumpet etc)
