For me one of the best synthesizers ever made. I use the OB-X many years and I had never technical problems. The sound is very different to the later curtis chip based OB--Xa. But I like both.
My OB-X is a eight voice. Enjoy some sounds."

And for me one of the best songs from the mid 80s.

I used here the Oberheim OB-X for synth pads, lead sounds and the main theme like in the original song. And I used the PPG wave 2.2 for the additional metallic sounds. Bass: Moog Source

I used here the Oberheim OB-X Synthesizer for the main synth riff , lead parts and bass. The second bass is made with the Moog Taurus bass pedals and I used the Oberheim OB-Xa for the lead and pad sound parts.

The sound character of the curtis chip based OB-Xa is very different to the early discrete and SEM based OB-X from the year 1979.

The OB-Xa use the same Curtis (CEM) chips as the Sequential Prophet-5 but the sound is different.

The OB-Xa was available with 4, 6 or 8 voice cards.

In june 2017 I drove over 1200 kilometers with my Oberheim OB-X , the OB-Xa and the Matrix-1000 to Paris in the UVI headquarter for sampling works for the new OB Legacy software. You can find a lot legendary Oberheim sounds in OB Legacy and a lot more.

One of the most prolific figures in synthesizer history is the maverick engineer and designer Tom Oberheim. His efforts can be heard across hundreds of albums, decades of pioneering instrument designs, and experienced through conveniences we take for granted on a daily basis including preset memory and MIDI. His influence is as great as any and his designs have stood the test of time better than most, with models in production today that have changed little in over 40 years. The sound of his instruments is distinct and inherently musical, with a character that's often described as "lush" and "massive", and rightly so.
