NAMM: Tiptop Audio Officially Launches the Station 252

Click the pics for the glorious full size shots. Via Tiptop Audio where you'll find additional pics & details.

"Station 252 [Silver Bullet & Black Widow] is a portable Eurorack that transforms your collection of modules into a distinctive looking musical instrument that is great for the studio, easy to travel with, and powerful on stage.

In the studio, Station 252's ergonomic design provides you with a natural interface to comfortably work your cluster of knobs, cables, and tactile elements.

Traveling is a breeze; it folds down ready to go in less than a minute and it's easy to carry in one hand, even after being completely filled up with modules. It was made to fit in an airplane overheard bin and provides the convenience of a universal power supply wherever you go.

Under the spotlight, Station 252 professionally enhances the appearance of your setup and seamlessly integrates with your electronic music performance."

"Design

Station 252 is the product of careful electromechanical engineering. The result is a rack system made of three 84HP rows for a total module space of 252HP that converts into four different positions. Constructed from carefully selected lightweight materials, this entire Eurorack system weighs only 13lbs/5.9kg when empty and is built to last.

Station 252 comes equipped with a complete ZEUS power supply system, which has a proven record of reliability, safety, and performance all around the world. Included is one powered bus board and two passive bus boards supplying up to 3900mA of audio grade power to your modules. ZEUS helps keep your modules cool, optimizing their performance and extending their life cycles. In addition, it has the flexibility of a universal 110-240VAC power supply, allowing you to use it all over the world. And to top all of that, we added a robust +5V rail, just in case you ever need it."

Tiptop Z8000 + Sequential Switch Videos by Station 252

Tiptop Z8000 + Sequential Switch part 1 from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"I new about the existence of sequential switches for a long time and recently finally had a chance to try it out. I was so impressed with the results that I bought two Doepfer A-151 Quad Sequential Switches. Those little gems are an amazing addition to Tiptop Z8000 sequencer

This video is the first patch I came up with.

Z8000 - 4 vertical 4 step sequencers are connected to the first A-151, they share the same clock and are simultaneously reset to 3 steps by the Tiptop Trigger Riot. The output of the sequential switch is connected to Tiptop QuantiZer which in turn is driving Z3000 oscillator.

Circadian Rhythms - channels 5-8 are connected to the second A-151, the output of which is driving a pair of Z4000 VC ADSRs for The VCA and Filter FM.

The Sequential switches are reset to 8 step by the Circadian Rhythms.

The voice is quite simple: Z3000 sine wave > Tiptop Fold Processor (fold is modulated by a sine wave doepfer LFO and the offset is modulated by the horizontal 16 step sequence from Z8000 slewed by Make Noise Math) > Z2040

The bass drum is Tiptop BD808

Modulation Mix

Modulation Mix from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"Mixing two Z4000 envelopes and an LFO with the top section of MixZ mixer module into the FM input on the Z2040 filter module to change the groove of the bass line.

MixZ:

Ch.1 - short envelope that is visible in the Mantis triggered with the same trigger as the VCA envelope (located in the skiff). I’m modulating release with one of the outs of doepfer LFO

Ch.3 - inverted envelope triggered on 1 and 5 (off screen in the Station 252 case)

Ch.4 - Doepfer LFO (also in the station 252)

Voice: 2x Tiptop Audio Z3000. One FM’ing the other while being hard sync’d to it > Tiptop Fold Processor > Z2040

Simple tiptop drum pattern for context:

BD808, SD808, Hats808, RS808

Silver Tiptop Audio Station 252 Folding Case on PYRAPHONIC

A few pics via PYRAPHONIC a new blog on jimmersound's sonic pursuits. You'll find a few more pics there.  All great shots.  You can get a feel for the size of the Station 252 in the bottom shot with the Coke bottle next to it.

Update: I initially had this posted as a white case.  Although it looks white in some of the pics, it's actually silver.

eVerb: new Z-DSP Card

eVerb: new Z-DSP card (part1) from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"Testing the new eVerb card for Tiptop Audio Z-DSP processor.

Sending a simple dry chord sequence (3x Tiptop Audio Z3000s going through a filter) into the module via auxiliary send from a Mackie mixer. Signals are properly Modular Line level converted. No EQ, compression, delays and whatever else other than the eVerb was used.

Part 1: going through the first 4 algorithms."

TIPTOP AUDIO HAPPY ENDING KIT TO SKIFF CONVERSION

TIPTOP AUDIO HAPPY ENDING KIT TO SKIFF CONVERSION from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"In December 2010 Tiptop Audio released Happy Ending Kit that made affordable all in one (power module, rails, rack ears and PSU) entry into eurorack a reality. Those of us who lived way outside the eurorack supply center like Berlin ordering a case was very expensive. I already had a Modular World case, but anything else was not an option and by the time I wanted to expand MW went out of business. So for me HEK was a blessing. Later on I bought two extra uZeus power modules as I wanted to try and build my own case but installing bus boards and sourcing power supplies wasn't something I wanted to do. So again uZeus and Z Rails were an easy and a very affordable solution. As it turned out I didn't need the third uZeus as one was enough to power my 6U DIY case. At some point I had the possibility to get the big second hand Doepfer Monster case from SchneidersLaden that a friend brought on a plane (100 euros overweight). At that point I sold my HEK, rails and the two uZeuses.

Re-tuning TipTop Audio BD808 & Testing Out the Z-DSP Clocked Delays Card

Re-tuning TipTop Audio BD808 from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"Attention: to hear what is going on use proper full range monitoring, computer speakers won't work.

The mighty BD808! No matter how good or how shitty the sound system is, that little guy will always sound great, so great in fact that I rarely use any other bass drums and I was searching quite a lot. The only other bass drum that I use is BD909 but, it will sound only as good as the PA. On Function 1 it will blow your mind, on a shitty PA you will want your BD808 in the rack. The thing with BD808 is that just like the original you can't change its pitch / tuning. The solution is to use a high pass filter after the bass drum.

Start with the filter fully open with no resonance - that is your normal clean BD 808. Shorten the decay to a shortest possible setting, increase the resonance to slightly before self-oscillation now start closing the filter. now you have an alternative filter BD with variable pitch (the cut off is the tuning and the resonance is the decay). By lengthening the 808 decay and varying the filter settings it is possible to get new bass drums easy and fast and they still sound very much like the 808 bass drums. I use Toppobrillo Multifilter as it is very clean, doesn't change the original 808 sound, doesn't distort the accented BD808, has a very manageable and good sounding resonance."

Really love TipTop Audio Z•DSP clocked delays card!!! from Station 252 on Vimeo.

TSA Approved TipTop Audio Station 252

via TRASH_AUDIO where you'll find the full post and one more pic of the system in a live setting.

"One of the most important features on the 252 is its portability. It weighs 13 lbs , meets all airline regulations and folds up in less than a minute. 'The whole concept of this case, the number one design priority and as a direct result all its “downside” limitations are derived from this (shallow modules etc) need to meet this dynamically changing restriction by airliners and TSA. The case is made to fit any of those currently enforced restrictions but also keeps some room incase they change the standard, making the allowed size slightly smaller for example, or lighter etc.' – TipTop Audio"

Tiptop Audio: Forbidden Planet and Z2040 filtering BD909 and SNR808 from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"One of the reasons I love my modular drum machine is the flexible processing of individual and grouped sounds. In this video I'm testing the Forbidden Planet / Z2040 dual filer configuration for my non metallic drum sounds.

Drums -> Forbidden Planet Hi-Pass -> Z2040 Low-Pass.

FX: 2x Z-DSP loaded with Plate (Halls Of Valhalla) and Delay

also in the mix: Tiptop Hats909 and a white noise off MA808 filtered through another Forbidden Planet.

Sequenced with Circadian Rhythms and Trigger Riot."
