"The ESQ-1 is Ensoniq's first synthesizer made in 1986. It sports 8 note polyphony, an 8 track sequencer and my favorite an Analog Filter. In this video I'll try to show the capabilites of the sequencer along with the creative limitations of 8 note polyphony. The notes seem to drop right when you want them to.

Ensoniq EPSm Rackmount 13bit Sampler

"The EPSm Rackmount is probably the most rare of all Enosniq samplers. It came standard with 8 ouputs a SCSI port and expanded memory. It was made in 1989, 1 year after the keyboard version. Of all Ensoniq's rackmount samplers I like the look of this one the best followed by the ASR 10.

On a side note this was Ensoniq's only 13bit sampler.

Eventhough the EPSm came with a SCSI port it will not recognize a Zip drive or most modern SCSI devices. Apparently SCSI was fairly new at the the time. However, it will work with some older Syquest drives.

The Drums used on this song are the same drums that were posted on my 100 Subscriber giveaway video. The Synth parts were free plugins that came with Steinberg Cubase VST 5.0

An electronic instrument, often played with a keyboard, that combines simple waveforms to produce more complex sounds, such as those of various other instruments

Traditional Sample-based synthesis:
One of the easiest synthesis systems is to record a real instrument as a digitized waveform, and then play back its recordings at different speeds to produce different tones. This is the technique used in "sampling". Most samplers designate a part of the sample for each component of the ADSR envelope, and then repeat that section while changing the volume for that segment of the envelope. This lets the sampler have a persuasively different envelope using the same note."

The layout is very similar to the original EPS with the addition of 16-bit sampling and onboard effects. It's an 8-track sampler/sequencer with many modulation options. "The Ensoniq Mirage is the first sampler from Ensoniq and one of the most affordable samplers of it's time. With a HEX display screen, 8 bit variable sampler rate and analog resonant filters, this sampler maintains a character of its own.

The sequencer functions much like a tape loop. You have to manually punch in and out to get a smooth loop. In this video I keep it traditional with a straight ahead Classic Hip-Hop approach. Watch and Enjoy!
