Blofeld editor for Reaktor

via Gavan on the Waldorf list:

"This is my first real creation with reaktor.

i got sick of there being no software editor for the blofeld on the mac OS platform..

so i decided to make one, unfortunately Reaktor doesn't allow sysex so i was limited to using CC changes so not all parameters are available but everything that can be controlled by CC's are ....

i've tested in Cubase 4 running standalone Reaktor via the inbuilt OS X IAC bus and it works great..

i also tested in Ableton live 8 but it will only allow you to use the editor in monitor mode, so you cant alter parameters from the editor whilst a clip is playing back only when monitoring .. which is a strange limitation of Ableton.. or of course i could be missing something..

you can, however, run the editor from the VST version of reaktor in Live..

Parameter changs in both hosts are recordable

hopefully this is of use to someone :) especially in OS X land

and if anyone using other hosts could let me know if it works like logic or DP

can download here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/98006/blofeld%20editor.zip or from the Reaktor user library"

Blofeld Virtual Editor Beta 4

via Softnobs on the Waldorf list. Note this is not an official editor from Waldorf.

"The 4th beta of the editor is now available. Along some bugfixes, the main feature added is the Arpeggiator panel which allows control of the arpeggiator on the Blofeld with a nice plus: the plugin displays graphically the arpegiator like on the synthesizer. While this display is not 100% accurate at this time, it is already usable.

Waldorf Largo V1.5.0 Update

This actually came out on Dec 23. I thought I posted it, but I'm not finding it, so here it is. via Waldorf:

"New Sounds

Largo V1.5 comes with almost 500 new sounds. Together with the sounds shipping with earlier versions of Largo, this sums up to a total of more than 700 sounds (we have counted 733 so far). A lot of these new sounds take use of the new features of Largo. So, take a day off and carefully listen to the great library we ship with this update.
Browse

The most prominent feature of Largo V1.5 is its powerful Browse page. It is divided in two parts. On the left is a File Browser showing the files and folders of your sound libraries on your hard disk, on the right is a table showing the content of the currently loaded bank.

You can drag and drop sounds between the File Browser and the Program Manager for loading and saving, rearrange sounds on disk or in the current bank, copy and paste, and much more.

You can also drag and drop sounds from the file manager of your operating system (Windows Explorer or Macintosh Finder), or copy and paste selected sounds as a plain text list to a text editor for administrative work.

Search for sounds in the File Browser or Program Manager by typing in part of the name or category and let Largo find the stuff for you. In the File Browser, the search result is presented as a list while in the Program Manager the matching sound are highlighted and the non-matching ones are darkened.

Oscillator Section
By popular demand, we have added three additional parameters per Oscillator to allow finer control over their behaviour:

Startphase controls, as the name suggests, the phase with which the Oscillator starts. Set it to around 90° for a sharp attack, set all Oscillators to the same value to have them start in sync, or let the Oscillators run freely as they do in real analog synthesizers.

Brilliance controls different aspects depending on the Oscillator model used. On the Pulse and the Sawtooth waveform, it controls the mix of the discharge impulse of the capacitor, effectively resulting in a waveform with stronger high harmonics. With Wavetables, it controls their interpolation smoothness from perfect interpolation to steps. Those steps create additional harmonics especially in the lower keyboard ranges as they happened in the good old PPG Wave and the Waldorf Microwave and Wave.

Last but not least, the Limit parameter controls if the "analog" waveforms found at the end of most Wavetables are included into Wave Modulations or if they are left out. This helps creating wavetable scans without always keeping an eye of not hitting those accidentally.

Arpeggiator
The Arpeggiator now has the same power as the one found in Largos famous ancestors, the Waldorf Q, Micro Q and Blofeld. It offers various step types per step including fancy ones like Chord and Random. This means that you are not limited to either have an arpeggio or a chord repeater, you can have both depending on the step the arpeggiator is currently playing. And it now offers a separate Glide per step for your classic Bassline simulations.

Just look at the picture and you see that this pattern plays eight steps with different accents and lengths, and that in the bottommost row you see different symbols. Filled circles denote normally played steps, downward arrows tell the Arpeggiator to play the first note in its list, and the two-note-symbol results in a chord consisting of all currently held notes.

Chorus
Largos new Chorus comes in three flavours. The one with two stages you already know from earlier versions, and now also with four and six stages to create lush pads and strings. Spread controls the behaviour of the four additional stages, when set to zero, all six stages run in sync with a fix offset creating the ensemble effect of old string machines. When set higher, the modulation is increasingly decorrelated to make the Chorus thicker and wider. But we didn't stop here. We've also added Feedback to make the Chorus effect even thicker. And together with the quite long delay time, you can now abuse the Chorus as an additional Comb filter (as if the Largo hadn't enough of them already).

What else is new?
Besides fixing a number of bugs we have now tested Largo with the FXpansion VST2RTAS Wrapper in ProTools, added text input for almost all controls by double-clicking them, added scroll-wheel support for almost all controls, implemented system-wide copy and paste (not only between different Largo instances but even to other applications like a text editor) and, last but really not least, provide clock menus for all parameters that can be set to sync to incoming clock information. This menu contains the most often used entries so you can get your 16th Arpeggiator or dotted-8th Delay really quick.
We are not stopping here. Also by popular demand, we added the selection of Delay and Reverb to the first effect slot. So, you can now create sounds with a Delay and Reverb at once. Or use two Reverbs, one set to a small room and the other to a large hall."

Blofeld Vst Editor Beta 2

via Telmo on the Waldorf List:
"I have been working a lot on this VST editor and here is the new beta!

Download [See Update below for new version]

New features:
- Panel can be synchronized with current Blofeld patch ("Get Patch" button)
- Reacts to either Midi CC or Sysex
- Full Oscilliators, Filters and LFO editing
- Updated GUI
- More editable parameters (no longer Midi CC only)
- ... some bugs :-/

Other features:
- Knobs are updated on screen if edited on the Blofeld
- Parameters saved and recalled when saving/loading your project

Usage:
- Disable your Blofeld midi device in you host (will crash otherwise)
- Load the VST and select you master keyboard (or any other controller) as
input for the midi track
- Select the Midi input of your Blofeld
- Select the Midi output of your Blofeld
- (Optional) "Get Patch"
- That's it!

Was tested on following hosts:
- Cubase 4, Cubase SX3
- Reaper
- Renoise

I have noticed that the plugin really requires that the Blofeld midi inputs be free when selecting them. So check your host for this. Also, I have noticed that Novation Automap software sometimes hijacks the Blofeld midi ports thus making it impossible to select them.

This plugin is made with Synthmaker and thus will not be available on MacOS. Sorry.
However, it may work with a VST/AU wrapper (not tested as I don't have a Mac).

Feel free to suggest improvements and report bugs.

I hope you will like this new version!

Probable next improvements (but don't expect all of this in next beta!):
- More editable parameters (the goal is to have them all in order to have
some kind of "Total recall")
- Midi channel selection
- Parts management
- Maybe Sysex output

Have a nice day!
Telmo"

Update via Softknobs in the comments: "This is an outdated version of the plugin.
Newest version is at the official website,

Feel free to report any problem or suggest features."

blofeld SOUND DESIGNER

http://jemap.ifrance.com/
Googlish:
"blofeld Sound Design is an editor for the synthesizer blofeld of Waldorf.

L'éditeur est un fichier exécutable autonome sous Windows. The editor is an executable file in Windows. La version actuelle est 0.79. The current version is 0.79.

Il ne s'agit pas d'une émulation du synthétiseur, mais d'un éditeur qui échange des messages midi avec le synthétiseur. This is not an emulation of synthesizer, but a publisher who exchange messages with the synthesizer.

L'éditeur permet de contrôler et afficher de très nombreux paramètres à chaque écran. The editor can control and display many parameters to each screen.

La version 1.04 du système d'exploitation actuel du blofeld n'autorise pas le contrôle par midi de certaines fonctions du menu Utility (Store, Compare, Recall, Init, Randomize), ni l'accès individuel aux paramètres du menu Global. Version 1.04 of current operating system does not blofeld of control by noon on certain menu functions Utility (Store, Compare, Recall, Init, Randomize), or individual access to Global Settings menu.

Pour être conservé, un son édité depuis le blofeld SOUND DESIGNER doit être sauvegardé directement sur le synthétiseur via la fonction Store du menu Utility. To be retained, a sound edited since blofeld SOUND DESIGNER must be saved directly onto the synthesizer via the Store menu Utility.

Les développements futurs envisagés sont: Future developments are planned:

* sauvegarde / chargement des configurations multi sur ordinateur ; saving / loading configurations on multiple computers;
* accès aux paramètres du menu Global ; Access to Global Settings menu;
* clavier et pads contrôlables par souris ; keyboard and mouse pads controllable;
* import / export de fichiers sysex Waldorf ; import / export files sysex Waldorf;
* version vst ; vst version;
* aide française et anglaise intégrée ; using French and English integrated;
* traduction anglaise du présent site ; English translation of this site;
* liste des sons avec différents tris (banque, catégorie ...) ; list of sounds with different sorts (bank, category ...);
* émulation de la fonction aléatoire Randomize, avec sélection de tout ou partie des paramètres et choix de l'amplitude des modifications aléatoires ; emulation function Randomize random, with selection of all or part of the parameters and choice of random amplitude changes;

Cette liste n'est pas exhaustive. This list is not exhaustive. Les développements ne suivront pas forcément l'ordre de la liste. The developments do not necessarily follow the order of the list.

Certains développements n'aboutiront peut-être pas. Some developments will come maybe not. D'autres nécessiteront peut-être des applications séparées. Others may require separate applications."

Waldorf Blofeld Editor

via Telmo on the Waldorf list:
"I remember that some kind of vst editor was planned when the Blofeld was first announced. Unfortunately, it seems that it was dropped and efforts are focused on other things now...

I decided to start doing my own and I'm currently working on it in my free time.

You can have a look at it following the link below.

BlofeldVstEditor.zip [1]

This first version is in beta stage (not definitive parameter/ feature wise) and only features:

- sending/receiving CC parameters (all relevant documented CC ~100 parameters)- parameters saved with song and sent to Blofeld when project is reloaded

Note that this beta version expires the 30 october 2008. I'm still thinking on what the lincense will be. The software is provided with no guarantee. Comments, bug reports and suggestions are welcome...I learned a lot from the Blofeld while doing this. It is much more complex than it looks at first.

At this time, this editor is quite limited for real life use but already allows control over the most common parameters.

Usage:
- Load the VSTi as any other vst- Open the Blofeld vst editor window and select the correct "Midi Out" for your Blofeld- That's it... changing the parameters on the Blofeld should be reflected in the VST and the other way round.

Limitations:- No sysex supported, looking if I can do this.

Note that in Cubase 4, you'll have to deactivate the Blofeld midi out or you won't be able to select the Blofeld output in the vst (this might even crash C4, while seems to work fine in SX3)

Hope you like this.

Telmo"

SoundDiver Adaptation for Waldorf Blofeld updated

via Achim on the Waldorf list:

"Hi folks,
I've updated the SD adaptation for the Waldorf Blofeld to make use of bugfixes in OS 1.04 (multi edit buffers now work correctly). You must upgrade the Blofeld to OS 1.04 (released today) for this adaptation to fully work. Please consult the Readme for further details.

If you are on Windows take note especially on the workaround necessary due to the buggy USB-MIDI driver supplied with all versions of Windows since WinME. I've also added a link to Waldorfs INI-File so that the Blofeld will be recognized as "Waldorf Blofeld" instead of "USB Audio Device" (this previously required manual poking in the registry). An example WIN-INI [SoundDiver] section is added to explain the MIDI-Yoke setup a bit better.

Users of the OSX Beta2 should edit the checksum entries as detailed in the Readme and also check that the Entry Increment for all bank drivers is set to 1 and not 256 (this is a big/little endian conversion issue that SD seems to get wrong sometimes). You will know this is wrong when you can only request the first sound in all banks.

http://Synth.Stromeko.net/Downloads.html#WaldorfSDada

V1.04R1
* First version supporting the release OS 1.04 of the Waldorf
Blofeld
* Corrected some problems with Envelope 4 editing.
* Added missing edit facilities for LFO 3 and Filter 2
* Straightened spelling for modulation sources lists
* Corrected parameter labels for popups
* Added init values for Sound and Global Data

Achim."
