Nunk on Droise - demo video

YouTube via zeni69
"Short demonstration of the device used for my "Nunk on Droise" (Noise Under the Influence) performances.
The device is constituted of three alcohol sensors connected through an Arduino board to a computer running a Pure Data patch. The bars on the computer's screen correspond to the content of alcohol detected by each sensor.
Sorry for the sound that is really bad."

Blitz Special Dance Party

YouTube via marcf5656.

"1981 dance party from the Vog club in Montreal.Featuring Francois Matte Francois Laberge Louie Louie live."
Some retro New Wave New Romantics for you. Ultravox's The Thin Wall comes in at 1:01. Some groovy track reminiscent of the drum buddy before that. Specific synth content: the video switches over to a band playing with a KORG MS20 (4:12) and other synths.

steiner vcf

YouTube via bluelantern320. on Ebay.
"A korg ms2000 line level signal is passing through a steiner synthacon clone vcf . It makes the sound come alive with mid level rez harmonics. This demo shows how it can make your virtual analog sound real analog for studio recording."

steiner vcf003

"I have a sidbox patch going through a steiner vcf and being played from a korg ea-1 sequencer. I use the korg for midi notes also. You can hear how it can animate and make your basslines sound acidic, thanks to the diode filter design.Sorry i don't have any more sidbox, all out and do not have pcb's any more."

steiner vcf004

"Here's a demo of what you can do with just a steiner vcf all-in-one external vcf box that i sell online at ebay. If this is your first analog product you can at least do this. You can also animate and pass your virtual analog synth through the filter to make it sound better/vintage."

Waves & Filters

YouTube via MIxbern
"Formas de ondas básicas, luego mezcladas. Barrido de un corte de frecuencia con una alta resonancia generando una modulación en anillo en los armónicos múltiplos."
"Basic forms of waves, then mixed. Cut a swath of high resonance frequency modulation generating a ring in multiples harmonics."

Ben Simon Wooden Synth

via Ephemeral Radio via Jim on facebook.

I love the colored knobs on this thing.

"While The Good Graces were waiting for The Evening Muse to open up for our show in Charlotte last Saturday, we stumbled across this little gallery called Beet in the NoDa part of town. It just so happened that they had a gallery set up with these playable guitar and synth wooden art pieces made by Ben Simon. We plugged in and rocked out." If anyone knows where to find more info on Ben Simon's work, feel free to comment or shoot me an email - my contact info is on the bottom right of the site.

Update: some info via Ben Simon: "The purple keyboard is made of the woods: purple heart, santos mahogony (for the 'white keys') and an unidentified yellow wood for the black keys. The woods naturally occur as the colors they appeared as... (inother words, no staining or coloring of the woods happened - just an oil finish..) The circuit inside the keyboard is a Yamaha PSS-140 and its been rewired and modified (also called circuit bent)

I built this at my house in Indian Land South Carolina. I'm planning to make more in 2009.."

KORG DW-8000

via this auction. Note this is the one from this video.
"Very clean ,everything as it should be(checked and tested) ,a few light scratches here and there(see photos) but overall in very good condition.

A very underrated synth with a lot of sound creating potential if you can see past the one parameter at a time editing ...which by the way is very easy to do ( see video) as the legend for each paramter is laid out clearly on the board. In alot of ways it forces you to think how you are creating the sounds (instead of haphazardly moving knobs and faders) and you will learn alot about sound synthesis in the process.
As for the idea of more knobs the better ,actually i think there are just enough (sometimes being limited by what you can control gives you more creative expressive control),with the joystick and one parameter you can assign .... or you can just plug in a midi controller."
