Pacific Fast Mail Sound Effects Unit

via this auction

"Pacific Fast Mail sound/throttle unit. Intended as a sound effects unit for an HO scale train layout and originally manufactured in the 70's I believe. Was featured recently on the Matrixsynth blog [see label below] because it is an analog sound gizmo of sorts. Will make fuzzy/warm noise based exhaust sounds and bell and whistle sounds. Unit does not have audio outputs. Instead it puts the audio signal into train rails via it's screw outputs and then into a train that is equipped with an amplifier and speaker unit. In other words you will need a Pacific Fast Mail sound module to hear the sounds (these are available on Ebay from time to time)."

Muze

Muze from adam kumpf on Vimeo.

"Muze is an Arduino instrumentalist who creates melodies that evolve over time.

Muze has a palette of notes that it can in-turn interpret and compose into various rhythms and phrases that are strung together to form something musical. The user can then influence these strings of notes and rhythms to create entirely new compositions. Much like you would a tune a radio to get a new song, Muze can be tuned to provide new and different melodies.

In the interest of keeping Muze from becoming another knob laden techno-fest of an instrument, interaction has been limited to just one input.

Created by Joshua Maruska and Adam Kumpf.

sls & pco: video games that can play video games

sls & pco: video games that can play video games from paper kettle on Vimeo.

"This quick/rough video walks through a patch that I built and demonstrates an example of a video game feedback loop.

In this patch, the Soviet Life Sequencer (SLS) sends sequencer information to drive 2 things: 1) a blippy synthesizer, and 2) another game: the Paddle Controlled Oscillator (PCO). Simultaneously, PCO paddle/ball collisions & misses determine the motion of falling blocks in SLS.

Thus, this patch creates a self-sustained feedback loop where two video games are playing each other.

These games will be freely available from paperkettle.com by the end of June 2011. To get an alert when they're released, subscribe to:

(yo dawg, I heard you like video games, so I made video games that play video games so your video games can play video games while you play video games)"
