EarthQuaker Devices Bit Commander Guitar Synthesizer

YouTube Uploaded by EarthQuakerDevices on Jun 10, 2011

"A brief demo showing the basic functions of the Bit Commander. Video and animation by Jeff France, Guitar by Jamie Stillman, Pedal by EarthQuaker Devices. Learn more at www.earthquakerdevices.com"

via this auction

"The Bit Commander is a monophonic analog guitar synthesizer with four octaves of vintage square wave synth tones. It’s no-nonsense interface makes it easy to add or subtract octaves to create a wide variety of sounds without having to dial in envelopes or oscillators. Ripping sub-octave thump, pulsing octave down, a lightly squared base tone and a swelling transformer based octave up all join together to make a single guitar sound like an army of olde tyme synths.

Like all analog octave effects, there are some basic rules to follow that will get you the most enjoyment from your Bit Commander. Use the neck pickup and play single notes. The best tracking occurs from the 7th fret up on all the strings. Below the 7th will still track but there will be occasional glitches and stutters. The lower the note, the harder it is for the Bit Commander to register. The use of Bass and lower registers on keyboards will yield unexpected, sometimes pleasing, sometimes disgusting results. These are not mistakes or flaws, it is the nature of analog octaves.

Controls:
Sub: Two octaves down level
Down 1: One octave down level
Up 1: One octave up level
Base: Squared input signal level
Level: Master volume
Filter: Tone control, more highs clockwise, more warmth counter clockwise

Analog, true bypass and hand made one at a time in the republic of Akron Ohio."

"This 10 Channel Sequencer "10XRT4FA" Works fantasic! 1vpo. 9-12Vdc Powered. Triggered output, and the Twin Control Voltage outputs. 10 (Blue Control Knobs) are the voltage output for each of the 10 channels, each of the 10 channels has an Up/Down switch for the Ratcheting effect. The Yellow LEDs are the indecator lamps for the channels, they will scan from 1 thru 10. The Red Control knob (Freq) is for the speed of the scanning.

The Ratcheting Effects control knob (Yellow) will allow you to manually adjust the ratcheting timing speed.

The power input is on the back of the unit and instuctions will be sent with this. A (120vac) power adapter is required to operate this unit.

Fully grounded and IC's are socketed. I have tested this on my Synth and works great. Switchcraft parts (Instructions will be sent when shipped)

Elka Drumstar 80 Drum Machine Demo

YouTube Uploaded by snolan1990 on Sep 19, 2011

"This is a quick demonstration of the sounds and features of the "Elka Drumstar 80 Digital and Programmable Rhythm Unit" released at some point in the early to mid 80's.

All I have to go by in terms of the date of this unit is that it seems to share the same kind of design aesthetics as the Elka EM-22 synth module which was released in 1986 and the fact that the item was purchased from "Chingford Organ Studios Limited" which was registered as opening on 04/02/1983. So if you know any more about this particular drum machine I would love to hear from you.

I personally find the sound of this unit falls somewhere between the Roland TR-626 and the LinnDrum, with the clean sound of the 626 but retaining some nice 80's character more closely associated with the Linn particularly in the Latin sounds. As long as I am able to bypass the internal sequencer with MIDI when I return home I can see myself using the unit fairly prominently in a few of my more Italo style tracks."

Update via Fredrik in the comments: "Until lately I thought that the midi in of the elka drumstar 80 was only for midi clock , but it turns out that the Midi menu has two hidden sub menus. You must press the Record button to activate them (while in MIDI options mode). In the first menu, you can activate the OMNI on / off ( 0.0 / 0.1 ) , but in the next menu ( rec button twice), you can activate midi note trigger on / off ( 1.0 / 1.1 ) . Hope this can help someone out there ."
