I Dream of Wires w/ Modular Synthesizer Performance Coming to Seattle Sept 19 & Upcoming Screenings


"Modular synth duo performance by Kaori Suzuki (Magic Echo Music) & Chris Davis (Brain Fruit) after opening night screening. Modular video artist Nick Bartoletti will provide a visual accompaniment to the music.

A documentary about the phenomenal resurgence of the modular synthesizer; exploring the passions, obsessions and dreams of people who have dedicated part of their lives to this esoteric electronic music machine. Featuring interviews with musicians, inventors and enthusiasts, including Trent Reznor, Gary Numan, Vince Clarke (Erasure), Morton Subotnick, Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle), Daniel Miller, Carl Craig, Flood, Cevin Key (Skinny Puppy), James Holden, Factory Floor, Legowelt, Clark, John Foxx and Bernie Krause, as well as manufacturers and modular industry leaders Doepfer, Modcan, and Make Noise."

"The Dreamboat is based on a Chaos making circuit called Chua's circuit. A Chaos system could be a completely understood system where the math/physics are fully known. Yet future state prediction can be difficult due to EXTREME SENSITIVITY to initial conditions. The slightest fractional error in measurement can lead to large changes in future.

Another example of Chaos systems is the double pendulum. Every time it's released it would take a completely different path yet the system is fully understood!!. Edward Lorenz describes Chaos as:

"When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future."

The Dreamboat module is a live example of such Chaotic yet not random behavior,
