John Bowen Solaris Demos by boxoftextures

Solaris general demo Published on May 13, 2012 boxoftextures

Don't miss the Rotor demo below. It's one of the unique features of the Solaris.

"A brief exploration of some of the capabilities of the John Bowen Solaris synthesizer, showing the flexibility and depth of what you can do with it. This isn't a full blown tutorial but more of a taste of how you can program the synth.

Solaris rotor demo

Published on May 13, 2012 boxoftextures

"A demonstration of the basics of the rotors in the John Bowen Solaris synthesizer. The rotors are a somewhat unique module. They're not a sound generator on their own, but instead they let you mix and modulate several different inputs, be they sound sources or some other sort of signal. Using the rotors you can make either subtly motion-filled patches or you can go wild and make some crazy sounds.

"Sort of a work in progress of a bunch of beats I've been mashing together on the Octatrack and Analog RYTM.
Lots of samples from a few records and a Slim Phatty."

Buchla 291e VCA AM FM mod mix

Published on Dec 30, 2014 JurekPrzezdziecki

"Just another experiment with this amazing module. 291e triple morphing filter used as feedback oscillator. Modulation inputs A/B/C feeded with audio for AM and FM modulation. Audio output from 261e sent to 258v and have been mixed together. So 258v works as a 'hub' to mix audio waveforms. Filter snapshots previously created and i have changed them manually. Changing frequency of 261e and 258v creates interesting polyrhythm patterns. Powerful module."

Single VCO split to create dub chords (modular trick)

Published on Dec 30, 2014 alternatingbitmusic

"Thanks to the enginerring genius of Stereotactixxx I was able to follow his lead on the concept of using a single VCO to create a chord via pulse split / gate sourcing. In short:
Take one VCO, tune it high and set the pulse width no wider than 50%. Split the pulse out with a multiple, and send two instances of that pulse to the clock inputs of two rows of sympleSEQs. Set one sympleSEQ to 5 steps and the other to 6 steps. Mix the gate outs of the sympleSEQs using a mixer, and there is your chord. Flip the gates on and off on the sequencers until you get a sound you like. Some has to be off, otherwise you will will only end up with the fifth in the chord, which is the original clock signal. Now that you have your chord, just send it through a VCF and a VCA and modulate them the way you would do with any sound. (his words)"
