"It has a Groove Electronics MIDI kit installed. The installation was done by SynthesizerStudio Bonn in Germany. They were the best maintenance place in Germany in the 90s. They did a beautiful professional maintenance and repair job every time. Everything is working. Even all the lights are still working.

ROLAND JUNO 60 w/ MIDI

via this auction

"Having previously owned a Juno 106, I can confirm that this Juno 60 sounds way better, it's fatter and warmer, great for Basses, Leads and string sounds. The Juno 60 also has an arpeggiator which the 106 lacks. The wood side panels also make the 60 look way more classy.

CONDITION: Please note there are a few knocks and scratches to the wooden sides and bottom, however the face plate, controls and keys are all in very good condition, please see my photographs for cosmetic damage, for a synth of its age it is in very good condition and plays like a dream.

Midi Retro fit: You will notice from the photos the addition of MIDI IN,THRU, OUT, a red button on the right of the face plate and ticker tape added above some of the keys. This is all part of the MIDI retro fit. I have never seen any other Juno 60 with this so I consider this to be a very rare find. This is extremely cool as it enables playing the Juno from a modern midi sequencer like Cubase/Ableton/FL Studio etc.

I have recently had it serviced (2018), the service man told me that the MIDI retrofit looks like a Groove Electronics kit, it was already fitted when I bought it back in the 90's so I cannot confirm this."

Groove electronics M2CV Midi Converter w/ S-Trig

"I won’t lie, it’s a pest to set up, but is a dirt cheap Midi to CV converter which can do 2 synths at once. One of these synths can be S Trig, so you can sync your old Moog gear. Once it’s set up it works perfectly."

Roland SH-101 Vintage Analogue Synthesizer with Groove Electronics M2CV

Note the BOLDEN School NE35 9DZ engraved by the pitch stick.

"The unit was rescued from a school by a friend over a decade ago in a faulty state. I purchased with the intention of getting it repaired and 8 years later, it's finally ready to be used. The unit is cosmetically in a very good state - with the odd scratch here and there. The two slight imperfections on the unit are the school branding mark on the front and the replacement battery cover - which is in a slightly different shade of grey plastic to the rest and seems to stick out just a little.

Cosmetics aside, the unit is in *perfect* working order - and has around 10 weeks of warranty left on the recent repair.

Included is a Groove Electronics M2CV MIDI-CV converter and jack leads."

Groove Electronics MINI-CV MIDI to CV Converter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Here's a quite obscure and rare British-made MIDI to CV converter - I have had this working and it seemed to track over a small range but I didn't spend much time experimenting with the scale/tuning trims. Due to the condition (it's metal construction but the body is quite worn and a few bits are a little warped) and having not explored it hugely, it's got to be sold as seen.

Features:
MIDI IN Port
MIDI Thru Port
MIDI Channel Select Trimmer
3.5mm "GND Trig" Output
3.5mm "+VE Trig" Output
3.5mm Control Voltage Output
Tune Trimmer
Scale Trimmer
Doesn't include PSU - it requires 12V DC Negative Tip, Positive Ring"

Oratron Groove Electronics / Vocal Synthesizer

via this auction

"The Oratron is a unique and very hard to find device. It uses a voice synthesizer chip as a tone generator. The Oratron is not easy to use. Some functions can be controlled via MIDI."

Boolean Call (Modcan 24B + MOTM-730 demo)

YouTube via JohnLRice | February 10, 2011 |

"Boolean logic modules can be very confusing, especially if you have never used one. Hopefully this video will give you some insight into boolean functionality and some ideas on practical usage in a modular synth patch.

Thanks for watching, commenting and rating!"

Groove Electronics Oratron

images via this auction
"# Description -
Really about as rare as youre ever going to get, this, so far as im aware, or anyones been able to tell me, is the *only* oratron in existance.

The story, so far as i gather, is that Groove Electronics (maker of the various midi interfaces, but more famously, the Stinger) got so far as advertising the Oratron in the music press of the time, and then promptly went bust!

This is what ive been told (although noones actually been able to furnish me with a copy of any advert - id be interested to see one, if anyone has one?) but it sounds about right.

This one was a factory prototype (i assume) accquired by me from someone who accquired it from Johnny Marr. He, im told, was given it, as he used to live by the Groove HQ when all this was going on. Again thoug i have no proof! : (

# Item specifics
What it is is a vocal synthesiser, based around the General Instrument SP0256 chip, which, I'm lead to believe, is somewhat different from the usual 'speech chip' type of approach.

When opened up, you can clearly see groove's usual method of doing things - a modified m2cv board (as per the stinger, which i also have one of : ) and an additional custom board with the synthesis chip on it.

The top interface has grooves usual "binary plus one" programming procedure, allowing midi channel to be set, etc. but hints at some other more interesting functions such as sequencing individual phonems into phrases, which ive never got to work (it may be me, it may have failed, or it may have never been inplamented at all!) There are some stored phrases though, which ive never been able to edit or overwrite - such things as "Welcome to Groove Electronics", "I am not a man, i am an Oratron", some others, and a curious one, which, i guess may have been some private joke of the time "Can i pop your lemon?"

Midi triggering of phonems is entirely functional, with the machine responding nicely to the bend wheel, and this is how ive used it. I should provide some samples really, but, in description, dont think of the sort of glitchy cut-up sound youve heard from so many circuit bent speak and spells. Think much more gutteral 'throat-singing' type effects. But, yes, i should try and record some and post it... "
