Ambient jam with the Sequential/Oberheim OB-6, Elektron Octatrack MkII, Eventide Space
Published on Nov 15, 2019 Jay Hosking
"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some time convalescing. It's my first time using the Octatrack for some ambient, droning sounds, and once again, it doesn't disappoint. As before, the Octatrack's scenes are the star of the show, allowing for me to fade in/out tracks, as well as add modulation and effects either by track or on the master. What a beautiful machine.
I've also been pretty keen to give the OB-6 a spin for a while, since I love that Oberheim sound and will never buy the vintage gear. Despite its classic tone, it's got a lot of great modern features... that I don't really take advantage of here. I simply started playing it and this patch (007) sounded so good that I had to record something. Next time.
Elektron Octatrack MkII — samples, track effects, master effects
Sequential/Oberheim OB-6 + Eventide Space — poly synth
Novation SL MkIII — MIDI controller for the OB-6
Written and performed within a 2-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.
